It sounds like you may have had a similar type of interviewer to the one I had. I also waited and watched others arrive after me and finish before me, and I think it was because mine also went through so much in detail. I also got “decision cannot be made” but got an update 2 or 3 days later it was approved, hopefully you get the same. Good luck.

Glad to know you were approved in a few days. I hope I do not have to wait a couple months to hear the decision too. Keeping fingers crossed.🤞

  2. I do not know what happened to the my post which I posted right after my interview. Anyways, I will type it all again:

    Unpleasant Interview Experience:

My interview was scheduled for Oct 1st at 11:10 am at Fairfax VA office. I reached there and checked in by 10:55 am (They only allow you to get into office 15 mins prior to your scheduled time). I was asked to sit in an open hall on 2nd floor, there were at-least 25 other people waiting there.

After checking in with the lady at the desk on 2nd floor I waited for more than and hour for my turn. There were people who came in after me and checked in after me and they were done with their interviews and gone.

At around 12:10 pm it was lunch time and I was pretty much the only person waiting in the hall, I saw a bunch of interview officers leaving to have lunch and were talking to each other about where they would be picking up their lunch from. I patiently waited and then decided I will check with the reception about the delay - I was told I am still in waiting list and that I be seated till my name is called.

After about 5 mins, an officer came out and called my name, I was relived and happy to follow him back to the interview room.

The initial part of interview was smooth, the officer asked me to take an oath that all I would say is the truth before we get started, which I did.

He then proceeded to ask the civics test questions, this is what I vaguely remember:

    1. What was the war between the north and south called?

    2. Who is the first President of the USA?

    3. Name 3 states from the 13 original colonies.

    4. What happened at the constitution convention?

    5. Name two senators of your state.

I do not remember the 6th one now.

After the civic tests, he proceeded to reading and writing test:

Reading: How many senators are there?

Writing: There are one hundred senators.

So far so good.  This is where things started going a different direction.

The officer then started asking me yes or no questions from my DS form.

After which he said, since you have a common name, I will have to verify your identity. (My name common? what seriously? My Name is: Puneet, how many do you know with that name?)

He proceeded to ask me question about my initial entry into USA while I was a student. And then proceeded to ask my employment related questions from 10 years ago - which I vaguely remember as I was a travelling consultant I worked on projects from 6 months -1 year. Details such as employment dates at certain clients/employers etc.

Finally he printed out the details of what we discussed and asked me to sign it or suggest corrections if it contained anything that we did not talk about. (The print out contained - questions he asked with regards to my identify and my responses) He asked me to sign it, which I did and he added it into the huge file he had in front of him.

He then told me that though I passed my civic test, a decision cannot be made and I should wait for 2 months to hear back on the decision/oath ceremony. Also If they require any additional paperwork they will be reaching out to me.

So almost at 1pm I left the USCIS office disheartened and feeling rejected. After waiting for almost a year after applying it was not the desired outcome.😢😢 Hopefully will get a positive outcome in 2 months.

Anyway, I am happy for folks who were able to achieve this milestone. Best wishes for your future. God Bless !

  3. My Interview Experiance-Disappointing

Reached there 15 mins prior to my interview time which was at 11.10am. Got  checked in and was made to sit in a big hall full of other applicants waiting for their turns.

I had to wait for almost 1hr10 mins and it was already lunch time ...almost all the people were done with their interviews and I was all alone in the hall at this point ..still waiting for my turn.

Finally around 12.05 pm I was called. The officer asked for my Green card and passport. He then proceeded to ask me civic test questions :

    1. What was the war between north and south called?

    2. What is the Supreme law of the land?

    3. Which is the highest court in USA?

    4. Name one war fought by America in 1900s ?

5  Who did USA fight in the world War II?

    6. Who was the first president?

Then went over the reading and writing test.

Reading: how many total senators in usa ?

Writing: there are one hundered senators in the USA.

Then he went over the 'yes' and 'no' questions from the form. After that the officer started asking questions about way back 10 years ago when I first entered usa as a student. He asked for my visa copy for my F1 visa..he made a copy and kept it in his file. He asked my dates of when I first started going to school and when I finished school and when I was working for one of the employers 8 years ago. Etc

Something made me feel this was not going as expected, he then made me review and sign these questions and answers I provided. Later I was told I have passed my  test however the cannot make a decision at this time and he is referring my case to his supervisor and that it must expect to hear from them with regards to the decision after 2 months time frame.

Not sure what triggered him asking questions which were not even on the form.sually on the naturalization application form they only ask information from the past 7 years.

Can anyone here  tell me if they had similar experience and  decision was also put on hold for 2 months ? What was the outcome ? I am a bit worried now.😢😢

Thanks. Today I got a confirmation email saying they updated my address on my application.

Well I did have the email confirmations stating the address has been updated on both occasions I updated it on AR-11 form. However , they were sent to old address and when I called and spoke to their Teir 2 officer they bluntly told that I was supposed to call and update the address and make sure that it was getting updated on the file. The officer told me I can file an appeal with the email confirmations in order to avoid paying the replacement fees, however it will only take longer (Months) to review the appeal and make decision. I gave up and ordered replacement which was much faster though it cost me more.

Anyway, Hope things go better in your case.

I am moving at the end of this month to Tucson, Arizona. Should I notify USCIS now? Or later? Also is the AR-11 the only form I need to file?

I would not rely on the AR-11 form.  I had updated the form with change of address month before I was supposed to receive my Green card and both the times they sent it to the old address and charged my extra money to send replacement card. Based on this experience I would suggest you please call in and make sure the Tier 1 or Tier 2 associate updates this information on your file.
    Good Luck with the Move!!!

If they don't do the same day Oath Ceremony, there's a big possibility and I agree with you.

Just an update, my interview is scheduled on the end of September. It's a bit nerve wracking considering that it's exactly four weeks from today. Good luck to everyone especially my fellow DC filers @Pete20155 and @Valor. Just two more steps and we'll be done with  the immigration process. 🥰

@kenzo_gal First, that is awesome that you got your interview notice so now you don have to keep looking at the mail. Relieves the anxiety. :)
Next What date in end of September did you get and is your interview also in going to be in the Fairfax office?

Since both you and @Valor will have your interviews prior to mine, I will be eager to know how it went, what they asked etc. So please both of you keep us posted on your experience.

Good Luck and Best Wishes. We are almost there, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Super excited 😀🤗

Good luck to both of you. Our interview days are close to each other so maybe they'll schedule us for the Oath on the same day?

Thank you @Valor Good luck to you as well. Yes I feel that there is a high possibility we may all have the oath ceremony on the same day. Keeping fingers crossed for the interview. Hope your prep for the interview/civic test is going well! :)

Yay! So happy for you @Pete20155 🥰

I just checked on mine and the scheduled date is not yet reflected on my uscis.gov account. Might take a few more days to show up. I hope they also do same day oath taking in our area, right? Well that would be great if they do, that way you don't have to come back again given the pandemic.

Time to study 🥰. Much luck to all of our fellow November filers. ❤

    Hey @kenzo_gal thank you ! 🥰

Did you also check your residence mail box for the paper interview letter? As, today I checked my mail box and found the Interview letter mailed from USCIS. That was fast considering that my status was changed to approved only on Aug 28th.  I hope you get your interview date soon.

And yeah it would be awesome if they do same day oath ceremony, we would not need to wait further or go back again.

Good luck studying for the civics test and keep us posted on your Interview Date!! :)👍

  13. Good and Happy Morning ya'll.

Woke up this morning and saw email notification from USCIS which read We have taken an action on your case and it needs your attention . Please sign into your online account to view your case status. Logged in and yayyyy...status said ...Interview  scheduled.

I also checked the documents tab and it had  the PDF version of the Interview Notice.
