  1. Hi Community,

So I came to US in Feb 2020, now in Nov. I became eligible to file for N400 application (Married to a US citizen so 3 year rule applies). I submitted the application yesterday.

Now the question is I only have 2 years of tax returns, 2020 2021& we cannot file 2022 returns yet. Is there going to be a problem with this or I can just take the third year tax returns to my interview?

I believe the purpose of this forum is to inform people about the processes. True information isn’t always encouraging.

The problem is there is no information. Some points to ponder and some baseless assumptions. Please quote one line from above post that is information.

I would consider "everyone has to go through AP" as information if you can find one.

Have you ever wondered why Pakistani citizens have visa-free or visa on arrival access to only 31 countries and territories? (Only Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan have “worse” passports on the Henley Passport Ranking - https://www.henleypassportindex.com/assets/2020/Q1/HENLEY PASSPORT INDEX 2020 Q1 INFOGRAPHIC GLOBAL RANKING_191219.pdf ) All while Pakistan is the 5th most populous country. Or wonder why consulates do not accept Pakistani Police Certificates?  Ever wonder why the US Non-immigrant Visa Fees are so high?

I was relayed this story from very good friend I know and trust that I have worked many NGO projects with:

The issue in Pakistan is that decades ago Pakistan decided not to modernize it's internal record keeping nor institute security controls on it's documents.  Unfortunately this has led to the inability for Pakistan and any other country to rely on the authenticity of many documents issued from Pakistan. Need a birth certificate or old passport from Pakistan?   He visited a friend's house in Virginia. The friend is a retired State Department Foreign Service Officer. He has a wall with 20 or more birth certificates issued in his daughters name with various birth dates. Some of them are quite beautiful.  They are all “certified” as true and correct. None of them are. His daughter wasn't even born there. In fact he only had a son. . .

So every document has to be checked for its veracity in many cases by hand and in person.

It is not just an issue for the US but atleast the US will do the heavy lifting once a VISA interview has occurred. Other countries refuse outright.  That same retired FSO that actual cost to process a Pakistani visa is probably now 20 to 30 times higher than what is charged to the applicant.  That isn't really fair for all of the US Visa Applicants Worldwide who pay for the self funded Visa services of the US Consulates.

With due respect, this is a forum to help and encourage people when they are going through the visa process. I think in every forum we have a sticky topic of not being rude to people who are new or ask noob questions.

What you have done here is generalized the whole nation based on one story that you have heard from some one.

A person with a brain and some common sense would have asked that guy who told the story, so if the person did not have a daughter and by putting the birth certificates on the wall, was he showing the world that he was a fraud? He was inviting random people at home and showing them that he is a thug? what is the benefit he was getting out of this.

Are you sure that there has never been a fraud case in Japan and Singapore that have the strongest passport. None of their nationals have everrr forged any papers or tried to cheat US immigration process???

Now as per TOS of VJ you cannot share rumors or false news. You have said these words "Pakistan decided not to modernize it's internal record keeping" if Pakistan decided this as a government policy can you share any news cutting or official announcement??

As a fact now you even cannot get a Cellular Sim card without verifying the thumb impression. Date on Birth Certifcate can only be changed only at one place that is in Capital city and general public is not allowed to visit there. TO get the date changed you need a court decision now that needs to be presented.

You have also claimed about the cost of verification as per TOS of VJ can you please share the details of what embassy verifies and the cost associated to it as well. If not of every verification can you give a total amount of cost of verification. Or else edit your post and exclude it.

What was being done in Pakistan previously is now changing, either keep yourself updated or dont make generalized comments. Also whatever was happening before, we in Pakistan are actually paying a cost of that in terms of long wait times to get visa, the pain and emotional suffering we go through is a lot more than the cost if any is related with verification and we still go through this process. 10% might complain about it but 90% go through this without complaining.

So please dont tell us that it is unfair to other countries that they pay the same fee as we do but there is high cost of verification (about which you have no information about).

So my point is please try to help people here rather than blaming their whole nation.

You did what your request said.  Her request was to upload.  What YOU did, is not always correct for somebody else.

Marymma shared her experience and has written that she was told to send which she did...... She did not tell Sam1257 to follow the same....

Putting a YOU in capital and telling her what is correct for other as clearly she did not suggest to follow the same is rude.

    Hi,

thanks a lot for the detailed responses to the questions.

Where did you get your medical done?

can you let me know the time for the exam, the number of visits and other details pertaining to the medical exam?

    thanks

I am in Lahore, so medical was done at WilCare hospital. You need to go on their website to sechdule the appointment.

It took me 1.5 hours to complete the process. Everything was done in single visit and after 4 days you need to go there to get vaccination record.

It was a straight forward exam. First they take xray, then vision test, urine test and then you get to meet the doctor who will talk to you and will do body inspection. Finally vacination shots.

    Cost was around 35,000.

So i wanted to expedite my case because my wife is pregnant there’s nobody to else who would help her. She already got two kids and we are expecting one too.  I sent them request but they sent me this but after that they didn’t email me anything. Just wondering if I could email them again and remind them of it.

If your case is at NVC, expedite is possible for pregnancy reasons; I have went through same situation and expedite was approved but then again my case was at NVC.

Though i myself did not go to AP, incase of that there is no expedite again.

Also NVC takes 5 to 7 business days to let you know if expedite has been accepted by the embassy.

Medical is required for your interview. If you’re done with your interview then you dont need your medical any more untill unless they had an issue in ur medical or they didn’t take your medical during your interview. In my case my hospital directly sent them my medical reports and didn’t give me anything except that sealed parcel which is required for the entry in US at the american airport. And that parcel doesn’t have any expiry date.

You had a normal case, here discussion is about people who are stuck in AP. If God forbid anyone is stuck in AP for more than 6 months they ask you to get a new medical done.

The sealed envelope does not has any date on it because you are approved and has a visa in hand.

If you check your visa it is not exact 6 months from issuance date, reason being that medical is valid for 6 months and your visa expiry date will be exact 6 months after your medical.

    Hope it is clear now.

    Hellow fellows,

someone who got conditionary expediate in pakistan, can you please tell us what to do when you get documentarily qualified? we got our dq today and we were told earlier that embassy was willing to expediate case when all documents were accepted,

now can we schedule our interview and when and how? since i learned that people in pakistan who get expediate schedule their own interview

please help us so we can do the process,

thank you so much in advance.

someone who knows the process of expediation in pakistan.... please

    Make an account on ustraveldocs.com/pk

Initially after making the account you wont see any avalible dates for interview. Once embassy will receive your case and will put it in system dates will pop up..... Keep an eye on CEAC status and once last date gets updated, go to your account again, login and you will see interview dates. Select the one that is avalible and suits you.

    Best of luck

    Hello,

Nearly 3 weeks after my wife's interview at the Islamabad embassy, during which she was asked to reupload at CEAC her Birth Certificate that includes "Place of Birth", we got an email from the embassy stating that the original paper copy of that Birth Certificate now also needs to be sent to them via a courier, preferably American Express.  My wife lives in a small town where that courier isn't available.  I would like to know whether it is okay to use another courier such as TCS?  Also, do we need to send anything else along with the requested document?  She will obviously write the case number on the envelope.  Thanks in advance for any help.

It has to be through American Express.

@Syed_Asghar_Raza did you have to register online before the interview?

birth certificate in English doc, is that any different from what was submitted to NVC? Or is it like that Nikkah Nama in Urdu & separate English translation.

i heard they have Pickup service for passport?

My case was expedited so I had to make the account before the interview and sechdule it my self. In your case, at time of interview they will give you a paper that will have instructions on how to make the online account. For pick up of passport they have started delivery at home which I am not sure is avalible for immigrant visas. If there is you will get an option on where you want to have your passport delivered after making the online account.

There is only one Birth Certificate, that has to be from UC. It has english and urdu both written on it. For Nikkah nama it has to be the original urdu one, UC nikah nama and english translation.

    Hi,

Can you give more information about what they asked in the interview?

My spouse (petitioner) has been here in Pak with me for more than 6 months, but she will be returning at the end of this month for the US. I doubt it will cause a domicile issue since i still havent gotten my second submissions approved, but did they ask in the interview about where your spouse is domiciled or anything along those lines?

You can see my embassy review, i have gone in detail about domicile. Yes they did ask about my spouse stay in Pakistan. To which I promptly responded that she is now back in US. Your spouse needs to be in US before your interview and you should have certain things to prove that she is back.

Take a picture of her boarding passes, if she gets a job before your interview take along offer letter or pay stub, passport page copy which shows her exit from pakistan or entry in US.

Dont lie about anything, tell CO the dates when your spouse was in Pakistan and give the proof that she is back.

I had my interview on 9th January 2020 and status changed to issued next day! but my passport isn't being tracked and the passport tracker says There is no status update available for the passport number submitted!  How can I get to know about my passport and how long does it take for embassy to send the passport to AEG Islamabad?

    Hi Bilal,

As per your previous posts you said you were in AP? Status changed to "Issued" today?

  14. 5 hours ago, designguy said:

You are saying it went from Issued to AP. That would be unusual. Issued means its been printed and attached to the passport. If its in AP then it means it has not been issued yet.

Don't want to be a downer but the AP time for males from Pakistan usually takes many months. Even though he may have been approved at the interview it does not necessarily mean he will get his passport back soon. While it might not be the case for you, you would be an exception not the rule.

    5 hours ago, designguy said:

An approval at the interview is not the same as having a visa issued. You can check out the forums here. Many males from Pakistan are approved at the interview and are then stuck in administrative processing for 6 months to a year+.

The reason is that the US does not accept the police certificates from Pakistan therefore the background checks take much longer. While it could be 2 weeks, based on the experiences here you can expect it to be longer. Hopefully for you it won't be but its good to have reasonable expectations

But AP cannot be expedited. Your case may have been expedited but AP is a necessary evil that everyone has to go through. And it cannot be sped up.

Keep us updated on when he gets his passport back. It will be helpful for others going through the same embassy to have an idea of timescales.

Don't see how AP can be avoided?

Case being expedited means it was expedited up until the point of AP...hopefully he won't be stuck in it too long.

I think the title of the thread should be changed. The visa has not been issued and may not even be issued for many months.

    Guys,

I have completed the process in December through Islamabad embassy. So even if you are approved, embassy needs to do a processing on your case, completing the file, printing the visa, pasting visa on passport is also an administrative work to do.

In my case, i was approved right away; told to pick the passport in 2 weeks. CEAC status changed to AP for a day or two and third day issued. 4th day I had my passport with me.

@Zubaria12 Congratulations...... dont worry status will change to issued maximum in 3 days time

    Hi,

thanks a lot for your detailed post. My timeline has been quite similar to yours until the NVC part. I had to submit my documents twice at the NVC and they finally qualified my documents on Dec-7th.
i havent received any email thus far. In your timeline you mentioned that the case was transferred to the embassy one week after the email from NVC. What does that mean? Did you get an email from the islamabad embassy that they have received your case? I am asking because I haven’t received any email or notifications thus far. I would be grateful if you could share the information pertaining to the steps ahead

    Hi Anitta,

While at NVC stage, i put up a request for case expedite. When I say my case was transferred to embassy after email, it means that I receive a confirmation email from NVC that my expedite has been approved and they have sent the case to embassy.

I did not get any email from embassy about case received.

In your case NVC will let you know about the interview date and again you wont get any email or letter from embassy.

Thanks so will I just need my passport to go inside the embassy with my husband ? And also I have a baby as well but I don’t know if they will allow the baby plus it might be more hard

Yes you will need your passport.... Get a copy of you passport first page or ID card's, as you will need that at shuttle service ticket counter.....

It is suggest not to bring the baby with you to embassy, I think they cannot refuse entry but it will get difficult for you

@innaya if you can please update your timeline as well

Hi congratulations I was wondering did you also have to take irs transcript and w2 the reason I’m asking is cuz I’ve submitted them online I just don’t know if they also need to be taken, I know the original I-864 is needed I will be joining my spouse during his interview

    Hi,

Please take everything that is submitted online, it is always better to have it with you because sometime due to some technical issue they are unable to see the attachments.

As far as my personal experience is concerned, they did not even ask me for I-864. Things collected from me were Original Urdu nikah nama, english translation of Nikkah Nama, union council registration and my orginal birth certificate.

One thing i would like to ask is, you are in Pakistan for less than 6 months?

Thanks for your post. Do you know what kind of red flags are there to get AP?  I've heard there are "name hits" that land people on AP.

What about being religious/ having a beard or affiliated with an islamic organization a risk for AP? My husband is all the above.

Apart from Name hits, other things have not been a cause of AP..... Being affiliated with an islamic organization is fine unless that is not declared as a threat by Pakistan or US......

If you have given embassy all the required documents and not giving them any reason, having beard does not affect your case.

Yes Name hits can cause delay at anytime no matter how strong your case is.
