Thanks for returning with the update.  It stinks, but 10% is better than nothing.  You're free of that place, and you can be glad, given the caliber of people and organization that they are.

Just another update that popped up on my end this morning. This just came in from the Benefits Office.

Again this is immigration forums and not legal advice ones. The people on reddits r/legaladvice are just as nice as the folks here and Im sure they could answer your questions better! IMO a claim with the state is one action and a civil suit is another. An attny may tell you they dont want to get involved since you have a claim with the state, or they may think thats great and use the state claim process to benefit a civil suit. I am not an attny so I have no idea. Most attnys will give a free consult. The link I provided was just for general info on the type of claim it would be and the type of attny you would look for if you wanted to pursue it. 

Just spent 4 hours crafting my detailed letter to the labor office. Let's wait and see what they say. I sent it via email.

1) Public charge is not an ROC issue.
2) Unemployment is an insurance program that you paid into and receive benefits from. There's no issue whatsoever with claiming unemployment.

I wasnt suggesting that your post shouldn't be on VJ at all, sorry if it came across that way! I was just suggesting that you try legal forums since you are seeking legal advice. Users on VJ are great with immigration advice and processes and yes many things come up that are non immigration related hence why there is this subforum- moving and new life in America. But again your issue is a legal one (slander) and I honestly believe you will get better help posting in a legal forum then you would here. 
 
Besides that Im not sure what more can be suggested. If the potential new employers do not want to disclose what negative information they got about you that caused them to rescind their job offer I do not believe there is any way to compel them to do such. An attny can advise you for certain on if there is any provision in the law that would apply here that could help you. Which leaves you back with only 2 options it seems. Keep poking around yourself trying to pick up whatever gossip may be out there so you can address it- or leaving them off your resume all together.

Persist.  You might end up with an even better job than those that you're prevented from getting.

That's a question for an attorney, but I would be very surprised if a judge would make any such order without a pending claim. It's like asking a judge to give you a copy of the neighbor's video footage because you believe they stole your lawnmower...unless there is a case requiring discovery and the full process to obtain the footage is followed, it's their property to do with as they will.
