Finally heard from USCIS Detroit today! 🥳
Case was updated to Interview was Scheduled at around 9am and at exactly the same time I was refreshing the Case Tracker App.
We filed May 26, 2020 so hopefully it wont be long for those around the same time as well!

I haven't seen or heard anything on our local Detroit office. We still haven't even got EAD (biometrics early Jan of this year). Put in an expedite request about a week ago...will see what happens with that. No update on interview. Our process is coming up to the 10 month mark as well (PD 5/27/20). Some good news for both of us would be great right about now!!!
I guess we will keep each other updated since we are both waiting on Detroit. 🙂
Hope you get the EAD soon.. hard to say since the sequence of our biometrics appointment is different.... I thought mine was going to be smooth sailing when I got bio in Aug18 and EAD by Oct10 but then it stalled.
Ours was received 5/26/20 so any good news from either of us will be helpful.
How do you make an expedite request again? Is that when you write to a congressman or something to help facilitate the case?
Anyway, thanks and stay safe!

Hi,
Has anyone gotten an interview schedule already or any sort of movement in their case for those waiting on Detroit field office?
I've been seeing applicants from some states getting their interviews within 8-10 months.. and I'm almost at the 10th month mark from the time I filed and still nothing😬

Glad to hear people are getting not only their EAD cards, but also interviews with successful outcomes!!! Still no EAD card here after biometrics on 1/8/21 (with PD of 5/27/20), but hopefully soon! We are waiting for our interview to be scheduled as well (AOS is Detroit). I'm glad people are getting good news!!! Look forward to sharing our good news when it comes!
Hi, we have the same field office- Detroit and about the same PD for AOS. But in our case, I was able to get biometrics done last year and also EAD. After that, it's been pretty uneventful. I-485 hasnt changed since last update- case is ready to be scheduled for an Interview. Spoke with a USCIS agent and they said getting the Interview schedule depends on local office processing date which is about12 to 27 months.
I'm curious to see how your case will proceed as a lot of those who recently had biometrics done, got EAD and Interview schedule faster too. Just not sure with Detroit field office and whats taking them so long. Anyway, hope we both get to hear from USCIS soon!

Hi, just curious to know if there are any AOS filers from Detroit in this group?
And if you guys have any update on your I-485 case?
Mine has remained unchanged and still says Case is Ready to be Scheduled for an Interview. 😔
Been seeing a lot of those who waited so long for their biometrics and then get EAD and Interview schedule in a matter of days... which is great!
Just waiting on USCIS to act/update our status is hard ... and trying to call to speak with an agent is even harder.
Looking forward to when this will be all over.

Yes; the EAD is DHS Authorization (so is a green card, but at that point you can get your SS card updated to remove the language).
@DaveAndAnastasia Thanks for the clarification. I will remember to do that when I finally have the GC.
For now, I'm hoping to receive our Interview appointment notice in the mail.

Oh that's great news, I suspect this will be it and your card will be here shortly. You didn't by any chance ask him for the number did you?
Hi @Sarge2155 - finally received my SS card in the mail today.
Just for clarification, when it says " Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" is it the same as having the EAD?
Thanks!

Just sharing my experience!
I had my interview done on 25th, only I did the interview, and the interviewer just asked for my passport and EAD, that’s it. She didn’t ask for any other documents that I brought.
After checking my passport and EAD, she basically just went through my I-485 info. The whole interview was just for 15-20mins, then I signed my name on the form and found out new card is being produced 30mins after we left the building. From my experience, the whole process went really fast after I completed my biometric.
Wish everyone luck!
Hi @Joliec
Congratulations on getting your GC in 7 months! Did you guys make any inquiries re the status of you I-485 or you basically just waited for the Interview notice in the mail? Also, how was it that they only interviewed one person? Did they specify it in the letter that only the applicant will need to come in for the interview, and not you and your spouse?
Thanks!

I hope so too! I was asking the rep what I should do with the mail coz initially I was requesting for an appointment but he went ahead and "fixed" it. The guy I spoke with today said that he couldnt tell me the number BUT when i called last fri (the day I received the mail), the guy I spoke with actually gave it to me 😬 I didn't ask for it but he dictated it over the phone and asked me to write it down. So I have the number but Im waiting for the official mail to confirm it.

Hi Everyone. Does anyone tried to apply got their social security before receiving their work authorization ?
In my experience, I waited for my EAD first before I started following up with the SSA for my SSN card.
I could have applied for SSN prior to getting married and before my I-94 expired but then it was the start of the pandemic lockdowns so the SSA office was closed and I didn't know I could mail in my application. I also didn't want to risk sending my passport in the mail as they would require original docs for verification.

Yes they could easily do that, but they won't sorry to say. If you can get a face to face appointment that would be the best thing. Always hassle!
Aaaannnnnd the waiting game continues.. just got off a call with an SSA rep who was much more detailed and helpful than the previous ones I've spoken with. According to him, they did issue me a SS number and processed the card as far back as Oct 29 (when they received my application with all the documents). But the facility incharge of issuing the card couldn't mail it since my Apt # was missing. That's what prompted the new mail from SSA and need for original documents for verification. So the SSA rep said he would complete my info in the database as if he were seeing the original docs since I was already on the phone with him. He was apologetic for the mishap. He said this time around I should definitely expect the card in 7-14 days... so i'm back to hoping to finally see it in my Informed Delivery.🧐

My wife processed her change of name on her SS card via the mail. We checked the SS site and it specifically says no copies. We took a chance as we needed her card changed as it was a hassle some IDs in the married name some in the maiden name. Let's hope you do get your card. Keep us posted.
@Sarge2155 It looks like you were correct about them being strict with sending the original immigrations docs. Received mail last fri stating they couldn't issue my SS card because they need the original immigration doc (ie my EAD) to process my request. The thing is, they could very well validate my information if they bothered to check the SAVE database considering I was already issued an EAD by USCIS right? Theyre transferring the burden on me when it should be theirs in the first place.. Will need to call again and hopefully get myself an appointment.

You will be fortunate to get your card because they only accept original proofs I.E. GC Ead etc when you process through the mail.
You're right... I just hope the lady was being truthful about the SSN being issued and to expect the card in the mail.
Since they won't allow in person services I had no choice really. I also didn't want to send my original EAD card in the mail so I just sent them a photocopy of my EAD card and approval notice. I also included a photocopy of my passport and original copy of marriage license and that's what they sent me back but there was nothing else. There should have been be a letter/notice about returning the original docs and info abt when to expect the card. I remember reading in this thread that someone from SSN told them to fax the EAD and they still got it. So fingers crossed it's going to be the same for me. 😬

Hi, it's my first time to comment on this thread. Just want to know if there's anyone here waiting for their SSN card after receiving their combo card? I received my combo card last Oct 10. But still no SSN card. Maybe it just got a bit delayed and is on its way?
Found a SSA flyer stating that I should receive my SSN card no later than 7 business days after receiving my EAD from USCIS. https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/flyers/EBE_Flyer_Apply_for_your_Social_Security_Number_While_Applying_for_Your.pdf
In the meantime, we're planning to send an application attaching the flyer for reference. Since SSA is still closed, all we can do is mail and hope they process it asap.
Thanks in adv!
Updating this post for those who might be in a similar situation-- those who received their EAD card but are STILL WAITING for their SSN card.
I called our SSA field office to check the status of my application yet again. The lady I spoke with really gave me the runaround. I told her that I had mailed my application, a photocopy of EAD card and other docs for proof of identity.... the call was 15mins long and she would just be mostly typing on the other side... she asked me if I already have a job offer and I said not yet. Then she brought out their spiel about how they're only processing limited, those in dire need situations etc. I insisted that I really needed my SSN and mentioned that other SSA offices have issued already so I don't understand why they're blocking it. I told her that you need the SSN for many other things like opening a bank acct, getting your license... I don't understand why their making the job offer a pre-requisite for the SSN card. Good thing I was still really nice but firm with her. And appealed if they could make an exemption and just issue me the card already. She was silent again and I was like Hello??? And she said she needed to speak with her manager....
So anyway at the end of the call, she finally said that a number was issued for me last Oct 29 and to wait for the card in the mail in 2 weeks!!!!! I was just happy she said that that I forgot to grill her why she didn't tell me that bit of information at the beginning of the call! If I recall, Oct 29 was the date USPS confirmed that our mail was delivered! So it's possible they process the SNN cards but don't mail it out until you follow up with them or present a job offer.
I made sure to ask for her name though so I have someone to follow up in 2 weeks! Hopefully, she told the truth and that I can truly expect my SSN in the mail.
Hope this helps!
