  1. You are arriving at 4:16pm Eastern time, so what time is your flight to DFW schedule? You'll be going from Luthansa to Jetblue terminal 6. They are always doing some kinda of work, every time i go it's it's always something different, lot of money being waste in construction. With a couple of hours for Delay and immigration you should be fine.

Definitely against going to Newark, expensive but mostly traffic nightmare. From JFK to Laguardia is not an easy one also, Van wyck Expressway, 295, LIE 495, and then Grand Central Highway is madness at rush hour, so your best best to connect at JFK itself, if you were arriving past 9pm that would be a different story.

Wishing you the best of luck and have a safe flight.

yep , arriving @ 16:10 local time JFK NY .i think 4 hrs layover for the next connecting flight shoudl be sufficient

    agnar

have a safe sound journey agnar

do keep us posted for the poe jfk

  2. Today I have recieved my CR-1 visa. My name is 'Jigar Shah'. The name they have printed on my CR-1 visa issued by London IV branch is :

    Family Name: Shah

    First Name: Jigar Pritesh

Where 'Pritesh' is my father's name. His fullname is 'Pritesh Rajdev'

I wonder if they have made a mistake in printing my first name? or do the append father's first name with your first name in an immigration visa?

If it's a mistake, then what should I do?

    your suggestion highly appreciated.

[i posted this on DCF forum but no suggestions. So trying my luck here.]

was pritesh your middle name ?

though i feel a mistake here but in my hubbys case too he has a middle name kumar in his passport etc

but he books intrnl flight tickets etc without his middle name that is with first n last name

so though in your case i am not sure but it will be good if u contact the local consulate

  3. I was just curious as to who is going or has recently went through the delhi consulate with their K-3. It would be nice to share the experiences.

on a different note- while i was waiting for my approval the south asian forum was bustling with many many individuals going through the k-3 process. Now they all seem to be done...so i feel lonely... :crying:

    dear neel ,

though i am for cr-1 i will still let u know from as much knowlege i have ,

    do not worry ,

i feel if all documents are in order u will be fine ,

all indian embassys are very friendly just paperwork needs to be complete on time ,

  4. You can buy these special TSA locks at nearly all International airports. Duty Free and other shops in the airports sell them for a reasonable price. TSA can unlock these locks and search, then relock your bags.

thanks sasha :) i will be buying these now

  5. My wife's and my suitcase was inspected when we flew from the Philippines to San Francisco last month. When we got the suitcase from the carousel there was a red sticker taped across it that said "Security Checked." This was my 4th trip to and from the Philippines, but the only time the luggage was opened by TSA. Not locking the suitcase was an issue because the latch can easily pop open when not locked. I bought a latching strap to put around the suitcase to keep it closed.

wow so does it mean that u didnt lock it n luckily that helped coz it was all of sudden checked 1st time in your 4 visits to n fro phillipines ?

  6. great thread!

    looking into buying some now

    thanks for the comment liz

i too will be buying the tsa locks now i told my mom about this , gosh i was so dumb about this bag locking system though people have undoubtedly travelled without problms even after locking the baggages :)

  7. I heard from others that for C1 visa they will send the SSN automatically to home address in USA, after arrival, so no need to apply again. But I am not positive about this info, cuz we did K1 visa. If you don't get answers here, try to post again in South Asia forum, you will get an answer.

i think elw is right though i m not sure either coz mine is not yet done

but i feel yes coz your brother must have ticket yes in ds-230 form part 2 in question 33 a

i would also request the other senior members to advice on this ,

  8. Sujeet's luggage had built in locks, and he never had to open them at the 1st POE when he came here. He's also been back to India twice with locked luggage, which was never opened or broken. When I went to India I put small locks on my luggage, also never opened. So I guess it's a game of risk.

    thanks stinaandsuj and jen ,

i wont be carrying lipsticks deos etc in handbag as u said

i would rather carry them in other luggages :)

even my hubby just told me that my luggages shoudlnt have any battery item on , that wont make it suspicious for checking

though i wasnt sure how much liquid we can carry for the other luggages - like i really have some very good perfumes my hubby presented me i donot want to leave them in india :(

  9. mala, most bags dont get opened. if you lock them, the odds are yours wont be either. you can choose to play the odds or you can choose to not lock at all. your choice.

FWIW - my wifes luggage wasnt opened when she came to US, 1st time, into jfk (this was in 2005).

if i rembr clearly my hubbys baggages werent opened anytime even during his 1st poe n he never told me this kind os tsa thing ever except that i read it in an article today

more cool to hear the same from u vj coz i will be going thru jfk too :)

  10. mala, don't forget to lock the gold up in a safe deposit box and insure it once you're here. too many indian women dont do it and end up regretting it... at least in NJ it is common knowledge that indian newlyweds have lots and lots of gold in the house so there are quite a few home invasions.

omg , okay sure i will do it thanks for kind advice vj :)

WOW THATSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS AMAZING N COOOOOOL ,

I WILL ASK MY HUBBY TO PAY FOR MY ANY DAMAGES LOL ;)

  11. i really dont understand my hubby when left india after he came here while going back he did lock his baggages with big - BIG LOCKS

then is the difference coz of 1st poe experience i guess

however i m having the vip elanza 31 ulc model 1 baggage , and 1 samsonite baggage i dont know its model coz its old

i hope any one of them is tsa approved if anyone knows else i will have to keep them opened :(

  12. You can lock your bags. TSA asks you not to, but they won't fine you if you do. If they want to search your bags, they'll break the locks and leave a note in your luggage telling you that your luggage was searched.

Approved locks can be found at Sharper Image, Brookstone, Macy's, among others. But I don't think you're in the US yet, are you? If not, just lock your luggage and let them open it up if they want to/need to. Most bags don't get opened, play the odds.

i guess i will change my baggage vj coz they have inbuilt locks

i donot want to keep them open or risk them break open

or i may keep not so important stuffs in that baggage ?

    doc,

Carry jewelry and all papers (not just passport/visa but birth cert, marriage cert, college transcripts) with you. Don't pack that stuff in your checkin luggage.

yes thanks vj thats what i will be carrying lot of jewelery coz we are from a traditional family also as u said i will rather carry all documents n college transcripts , usmle score cards , brown envelope etc in the handbaggage

now that i got aware from u all that they might open all other baggages :(

  14. If you lock them, you will risk the locks being broken if your luggage is needed to be inspected. Check this link.... it's worth browsing around the TSA site too...

thanks i m going thru the website u just gave me
