my understanding according to the embassy website a police record is needed for all countries where the beneficiary has lived for 6 months or more since age 16. They may not ask for it at the interview but i would definitely get it if that applies to you. its only needed for the beneficiary not the USC

It was sent to the benificiary's email address from the embassy. it took my case around 12 days to be received as the embassy from NVC

Firstly, Thank you to @Greenbaum  for all useful tips and guidance over the past few months.
 
For the edification of future applicants let me point out that I have discovered that for the Bahamas (US Embasy Nassau) you cannot pay ahead of their e-mail notifying you that your file has been received. I understand that you will be probided payment instructions therein.

I have taken the liberty however, complete the DS160 form....found it a bit lengthy, but not horribly difficult to complete. I am not sure it was the right/wrong thing to do but it is done.
 
Further, I called the Embassy twice to enquire about next steps i.e. paying the requisite fee ($260 or $265 thereabouts) and was advised by the rep. to stand down until I have receieved he e-mail (as beneficiary to pay for/advance ro the next steps (Medical and Interview).
 
I hope this is helpful and brings some clarity.

p.s. I have also read that some persons in the past did not receive an email and had to e-mail/call the Embassy if they do not to request an interview date/packet 3 etc. in order to mobe forward.

Just mailed my packet today! So excited!

Finally got my NOA1 in the mail yesterday, 10/25. It has a date of 10/18 on it so we're finally official. I wonder why it took so long to get from California to New York.  I guess I'll have 6 months to ponder.
