  1. Hi everyone,

I've messaged the USCIS through their online portal after having no success with their robot customer service agent on the phone. While I await their official response I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this.

I received my GC, however they issued the incorrect one. I got the IR1, when I am CR1. I figure I will have to complete form I-90 to have the problem corrected at no cost to me. I was wondering if I will have to send in the original card (probably yes) and if so, will I be able to file the form online and mail in the card separately? Or it may be better to send in the form and card together physically?

    Thanks for any responses.

  2. Just popping in to say I would love to have a link up with all those on this thread one day! This community has definitely helped me through this process and continues to do so. I've moved past this stage and so am no longer active in this thread but I still follow it to see how everyone else's case is moving along. I'm praying that we all will be reunited with our loved ones soon and very soon.

As the previous poster tried to allud...Your number will not change when it is corrected.  However, when you are using your SS Card as Identification for Driver's License, employment, bank account, etc.... then it will be an issue as your name information is not the same on other documents.  It will up to individual agencies/employer to decide if they would like for you to wait until SS Card is corrected.

If anyone else encounters this problem I found this on the social security website. Thankfully it was my middle name they misspelt, so I won't have to risk sending in my only form of documentation through the mail.

RM 10205.120 How the Number Holder’s Name is Shown on SSN Card

The number holder’s (NH) first and last name on his or her SSN card must agree with the first and last name shown on the document submitted as evidence of identity or legal name. A middle name or suffix is not considered part of the legal name. It does not matter if the middle name or suffix is included, omitted, or incorrectly shown on an SSN card.

For SSN purposes, a NH’s legal name consists of the first (or given name) and last (or family name or surname) that is used to sign legal documents, deeds, or contracts.

  4. Got my social security card today in the mail, however they left the E off the end of my middle name. Looking on the website for the local office they are closed for in person visits. Would I be able to use the number for now until the offices open and I can go in to get the name corrected? I've seen where some have mailed in their original documents. I don't feel comfortable doing that, even more so now with the elections coming up and the trouble with the postal service recently.

    Good Morning,

So I have another question, the medical center gave my husband a slip saying to email kingstoniv@state.gov to let them know he completed what he needed to do for the interview date. I sent them 2 emails and still haven’t heard anything back regarding a interview date. Does it take this long usually? Or am i emailing the wrong thing?

How long ago did you email them? They probably took 3-5 days to get back to my inquiries, apart from that automatic reply you usually get.

And that also depends on what questions are being asked it seems, because they never responded to one of my previous inquiries, but did respond to a different one.

    6. Can landlords ask for immigration documents?

Landlords are allowed to request documentation and conduct inquiries to determine whether a potential renter meets the criteria for rental, so long as this same procedure is applied to all potential renters. Landlords can ask for identity documents and institute credit checks to ensure ability to pay rent. However, a person’s ability to pay rent or fitness as a tenant is not necessarily connected to his or her immigration status. Procedures to screen potential and existing tenants for citizenship and immigration status may violate the Fair Housing Act’s prohibitions on national origin housing discrimination. HUD will investigate complaints alleging that a landlord inquired into a person’s immigration status or citizenship to see whether national origin discrimination may have occurred. Landlords should remember that their policies must be consistent. If they ask for information from one person or group, they must ask for the same information from all applicants and tenants. Potential renters and home buyers cannot be treated differently because of their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability or familial status.

Oh ok. I know when my husband was applying initially he did have to submit information for them to do a credit check.

The form they gave us says that all applicants who are non-US citizens are asked to complete the form. Then directly after that they state they are committed to compliance with fair housing laws and don't discriminate based on race, colour etc. Its says the purpose of the form is to 1. to give you the option to furnish information about an emergency contact person for you in your home country; 2. to verify that you are lawfully in the United States; 3. to determine whether your right to be in the U.S. expires during your Lease Contract term; and 4. to enable us to better cooperate with government officials in the performance of their duties, when requested.

Does this sound like they're overstepping?

  7. Hi everyone,

The apt my husband is currently renting and where we will be living together sent him a form requesting some information on my authorization to stay in the US. I'll be going on the CR1 visa and i'm not sure which of these on the list I actually have.  These are the options they  listed:

Form 1-551 Permanent Resident Card [Alien Registration
Receipt Card] (form includes photo and fingerprint).

Form 1-485 (Application for Adjustment of Status)

Form 1-94 Arrival-Departure Record (form does not
    include. photo or fingerprint).

Other official USCIS document (describe in detail):

From what i've read once you enter on the CR1 you just have to wait on the SSN and the green card to be delivered. Would the greencard work in such a case like this as proof, and can the CR1 visa i'll be entering on be used in the interim, until the green card gets delivered, as I understand it can take awhile sometimes?

What I don't understand is they are following the necessary prevention and control measures, sanitization, masks, social distancing, the COs are behind glass, both US and JA are widely operational so why cancel ppl's interviews?

This was my thought as well. They are doing the absolute best already at ensuring risk of transmission is nil, if we have to live with covid till some cure/vaccine is discovered, i don't see how cancelling interviews will do much. I'm praying so hard for everyone right now that this is sorted out soon.

Hello all! If I’m out of place please delete this post. Me and my fiancé went the fiancé visa route December 2019 after meeting a year and a half prior. We received NOA2 May 5. Now currently waiting say NVC with no news or hope on when K1 will resume. I’m considering just going to Mary next month and applying four CR1. Could y’all tell me how long the cr1 process is taking right now? Knows anyone that abandoned k1, know a group that could better assist me, or anything helpful regarding cr1? I’d appreciate it. Thank you again and sorry if I’m out of place.

Have you tried contacting NVC about your case. It shouldn't be taking this long to get your case number etc from them. Ppl who got their NOA2 around that time were getting their numbers within a few days, max maybe within a couple months. I saw a post on a fb group about K1 visas opening up for processing soon. I'd say stick with it, because you'll have to go through the entire process all over again with the CR1, but at the end of the day it's your decision.
