Of course not! Otherwise how would they keep delivering mails to people’s old addresses.

There are people complaining about that every week here.

    You are worrying about NOTHING

Sorry, I’m confused. My logic was that the USCIS must have some records of our address somehow, given the fact that they have the 10 day rule with address changes. So I thought that they would share information with the USPS and use that as their “records”. I’m just curious as to how they could enforce their 10 day rule.

Or is it so that they go by what we tell them and they don’t cross check that information?

  2. Hey everyone, I was revisiting my paperwork and came across a hole in my paperwork.

Background: K1 SEP '18 -> Married NOV '18 -> GC arrived in mail (NEW address) SEPT 2019

My wife (petitioner) and I moved to our new address in the end of April 2019 - beginning of May. Our lease started 25th of April. We moved from her parents' second house, so the dates are a little blurry in terms of what was the OFFICIAL day. I submitted my online address change on May 6th. I cant remember the exact date I submitted my mailing address to the postal service. I think I actually might have done it after I submitted my address change for the USCIS.

I was wondering if anyone knows what information does the USCIS base their address records on. Would they cross check my address update with the postal office?

I just had an uneasy feeling knowing that I cant remember off the top of my head the exact dates. And I dont have the exact address update date from USPS in my records. And I also started worrying whether or not I did everything within the 10 day period. I THINK I did, but I am starting to doubt myself..

My Green Card and everything arrived at the new address, so I should presumably be fine. No issues came up during the interview either, which was well after the address update.

    Congratulations!!

My interview in on Friday coming but alas I've heard from the Visa Bulletin that AOS has retrogressed and likely will not receive the GC for a few months (assuming we are approved).

I hope your interview went well! I received the positive news that my card was mailed to me only 2 days after the interview, hopefully you have similar luck!

  4. Interview done!

At the beginning of July we recieved the news that our interview is scheduled for August 7th.

After a nervous month, we finally get there all prepared. Interview lasted in total for about 20 to 25 minutes. The officer was kind but not too chatty. Everything went smooth in the interview. Lots of yes & no questions. Went over the evidence we brought, and at the end she said that she would make a decision either that day or the next. She also added that everything looked to be in order, and even mentioned that we were well prepared.

I was very anxious for the rest of the day, but alas at 5pm the same day I got a text notification from the USCIS saying that my case for AOS is approved. I cannot express the relief that I felt and still feel. I keep going back to the site to doublecheck, but it looks like the result stands haha!

Funny thing is that we applied for an employment authorization with the aos, but it never got processed before the interview, so now my ead case is closed as I am receiving the green card before it.

So excited to apply for jobs and not worry about any of this for 2 years. I sincerely hope that everyone receives good news here ASAP.

  5. Got an update today - interview HAS been scheduled, mail will follow.

Filed on January 18th. Beginning of June got the information that case is ready to be scheduled for an interview, and now this. I765 still says fingerprint have been received. Never attempted to expedite.

Happy, nervous and everything in between. Hopefully all goes smooth. I hope everyone gets goods news sooner rather than later.

  6. Hey everyone, been posting here on and off every now and then.

I just got a notification that my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview. I've been walking around our apartment for 10 minutes, just stopping now to write this. I also applied for an EAD, but nothing has been said of that. In my case status it still says that "Fingerprint review was completed" on the EAD application. Does anyone know what could this mean? Seems a tad odd to not hear anything about the EAD at all.

Either way, here are some facts about our case:

Came to the states on a K1-visa in October. Got married in November. Filed for everything on January 17th. We did NOT attempt to expedite at any point in the process, just been waiting patiently.

My case Tracker helps me to see the progress of other case near-by  my case and it seems only just a few I mean about 4 case ls has been approved for ead and ready to be schedule for interview. Some of the case has been rejected and others are stuck at fingerprint review completed.

All I want to see is a progress in my case status like ead/ap approval and ready to be schedule for interview.

And my visajourney immigration timeline presume date for adjudication keeps decreasing. I visajourney is right... 👌

What is this case tracker you are talking about? Sounds interesting. Also when you say rejected cases, do you mean cases that have receives RFE’s, or cases that are just denied altogether? Sorry trying to get my terminology right here lol. Uscis received our stuff on jan 18, and we’ve been at ”fingerprint review complete” ever since. Running out of things to do!

It’s not the same in different states. We got married in Nevada and I have specific statement with my kaden name and then my husbands last name that I wish to use after the marriage. If you don’t have those lines, you’re probably fine. If you do, and both have her maiden name, you would probably need to go to court to legally change her name

Okay. In our certificate there is only one box for last names. Given the fact that she has been able to change her name with several companies / institutions, I think we are good here. But I will doublecheck tomorrow with the courthouse.

There is no error.  Her maiden name is the one that should be on the marriage certificate.  Under state law, spouses can legally take each other's last names.

Mary Jones marry Bob Smith.  The marriage certificate with her name on it is what links Mary Jones to the Smith name.   That's how we know that Mary Jones is Mary Smith.

If they used Mary Smith and Bob Smith on the marriage certificate, then they would not have anything official to link Mary Jones to the Smith.

Ah, well that is great news. What confused me was that in the certificate it states "current name", so I made the connection that this would mean her actual current name. I will just doublecheck with the courthouse tomorrow, but for now I'll take your word for it. Thank you and have an awesome Sunday :)

  10. Hello all!

My wife (petitioner) and me (beneficiary) were reviewing our documents today and we noticed that there is an issue in the marriage license, a major issue. The clerk at the courthouse has typed in my wife's maiden name as her last name on the marriage certificate, although our intention was that she would take my last name. The blame on this eventually falls on me, as the clerk asked me to go over the details in the marriage certificate, but I didn't pay close enough attention.

The real issue now is that in our AOS submission we have submitted everything with her having my last name. Naturally, we also submitted a certified copy of our marriage certificate as evidence with our package. Has anyone else been in a similar situation, or does anyone have any advice on what to do?

My first plan of action is to contact the courthouse tomorrow on Monday to get this resolved with them first and foremost. But I am also wondering what to do with the USCIS. Do I contact them about this? Perhaps through their customer support line.

I see this being an RFE or perhaps even something worse (hope not).

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  11. Hello!

Just want to preface this by saying that I am in a state right now where I'm being overly anxious and stressed about everything regarding this process. Definitely having a bad day when it comes to all of this.

As the title suggests, I'm experiencing some pretty heavy anxiety about the fact that I have participated in a green card lottery before filing for my k1. As a matter of fact I think I participated in the lottery approximately a month before applying for my then k1. The reason for this was that I had just proposed to my then girlfriend and now wife and I really wanted to come up with a way that I wouldn't have to say bye to her at the time. It was an irrational decision that I made in an emotional state (much like right now lol)

We are currently waiting for our AOS interview, already gone through biometrics and just in a waiting period right now. Does anyone have any similar experiences, whether or not this can be an issue down the road? I hadn't put much thought into this until now. This has never been brought up in our process so far.

Thank you for anyone who takes their time to respond, I hope you all have a great weekend.

Her current income is what is most important. The previous years income is voluntary, not mandatory to report. Her paystubs and job letter are good enough. Just send a letter explaining she was in school the previous tax years and out of the country. Take her 2018 W2’s and tax return to the interview. If you can wait for her 2018 W2 I would send that with your AOS packet. Send her last paystub for 2018, which will show her final gross income. Congratulations on getting so far in the process. I hope this response helps.

Appreciate the response! A letter explaining the totality of the situations sounds like a very good idea. I think we will do just that and submit our stuff in :).

  13. Hey all!

We got pretty much everything done in terms of our AOS paperwork. However, one question still remains: joint sponsor or not.

My wife (the petitioner of the affidavit of support) makes well above the poverty lines at the moment in her current job. Her annual income is $65 971. She has held this position for exactly one year and is employed full time. Her current income is not the problem however.

She lived with me in Finland in 2017, and her annual income was $7000 for that year.  (As shown in the irs transcripts). 2015 and 2016 she was still in university, and she made $26 000 in 2016. In 2015 she made $14 000.

We have a lingering sense of uncertainty in terms of whether or not using a joint sponsor for this application, based on her previous years’ tax returns.

We of course have supporting documents from her current work that state the nature of her employment, her wage etc. On top of this we have printed out several paystubs from the beginning of her employment.

So I want to ask for advice.. Based on all this information, would we be best off applying with a co-sponsor or not? All and any responses are greatly appreciated :)

Of course it would be very benificial if the transcripts of 2018 were available, but not yet!

  14. Hello all!

My wife and I are filling out the AOS paperwork, and this time we would like to use a pdf editing-tool to make things smoother. We have already printed out a couple of papers that turned to be drafts due to some minor writing errors. I only have one problem with using adobe reader in editing these pdf's. I am unable to use the symbol /. Most importantly I would need this in all the boxes where I am required to write N/A. I want to fill out these forms perfectly and this is the only thing stopping me from doing that. Does anyone have any tips on how to use symbols in text fields or would I be better off filling these text boxes as "Not Applicable"?

Lastly, my a-number. From what I can gather from multiple threads is that I can find my A-number from our i-797 above my name. I do indeed have a 9-digit number there, I am just unable to find any USCIS source stating that this is indeed the a-number. Im also asking this because in my medical examination / vaccination records I have a different "AA-number." This has caused a slight confusion and a sense of uncertainty with filling out this box.

Would greatly appreciate any and all input on this :)

Happy holidays and new year for ya'll

If you leave without Advance Parole you will abandon the Adjustment of Status; thus the only option would be to follow @Boiler's advive above. Chances are your Advance Parole document or Green Card will not be approved before January, based on processing timelines: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/apstats.php and https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/aosstats.php Also, USCIS does not consider weddings as an emergency reason to expedite Advance Parole: https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/travel-documents/emergency-travel

Thank you for your response :). Looks like the wedding is off the menu, that sucks. But like I said, thanks for the help. I appreciate getting definitive answers :)

  16. Hello all!

I entered the states a week ago on my K-1 and my fiance and I are getting married next monday! Happy times :)

My brother-in-law will be having his wedding in Jamaica come January. Everyone, myself included, hope that I could attend. The issue is that during this time I will most likely be in the adjustment of status phase. If there is risk involved with traveling, we are not going to take the risk. The problem is that we are unable to get a definitive answer on whether or not I can i can travel during this time.

I asked the embassy in Helsinki during my interview, and the person interviewing me was very optimistic, and said I could even travel back to the states on an esta.

Does anyone here have experience / knowledge on this matter? Whether or not there is risk involved? I appreciate any and all help :).

    Happy thanksgiving all

  17. Hello all!

I am the beneficiary of our K1-visa application. My fiance and I recently got our NoA 2 and we are currently waiting to get onto our next steps with the NVC and my part here in Finland. We are both a tad unsure as to whether or not we should use a co-sponsor or not for our application. It seems that having a co-sponsor might hurt the process itself.

my fiance has been employed in a very good job for the last 9 months, and her contract is full-time as well. She makes 30 dollars an hour and works 40 hours per week, putting her annual income to roughly 62 000 dollars. She also has about 7000 dollars in savings. Looking at pure numbers, and based on my understanding, the annual income requirement for her would be 25 100 dollars. On paper it sounds more or less like there should be no problem, but the fact is that she didn't have much of an income at all last year. The reason for this is because she lived with me in Finland and studied here from February 2017 to December 2017. While studying here, she had no income, but lived off of her savings and my income at the time.

Like I said, we are a bit unsure as to whether we should use a co-sponsor at this moment or not. Main reason being, if the previous year affects the decision-making process of the embassy and/or USCIS. Additionally, during our K1-process she has lived with her family in order to earn  more by saving on rent and at the same time she has been paying off her student loans. This puts her current household size to 3. My Fiance's father is more than happy to be a co-sponsor and has already printed god knows how many pay stubs, but I figured asking here would be a good idea to get some more perspective on this.
