  1. If I file the I-90 do I need to pay the fee? This was not a mistake on my end as all the paperwork I filed was with the correct name. Will they even look at the form if the fee is not included?

They won’t stamp you while you have your valid GC in hand. As suggested, file i90 first and go for stamping with the receipt notice.

Oh. Maybe we should get the drivers permit first then file the form.

I believe marriage only allows you to change your surname. To change a middle name I think you have to go through a court name change process.

You can use a hyphenated name with the maiden name and new name as one last name but the middle name stays the same.

In Ohio you can change both middle and last name after marriage. It might be different in other states.

You should file the I-90 and then make an appointment to get the I-551 stamp in her passport, which is the same thing as a green card. You don't need to wait for the new card. The card and stamp PROOF of her status. Her status is not terminated or suspended or eliminated in any way just cause she doesn't have the physical card.

Thank you. I will try to get the stamp then file the I-90

  3. Hello, my wife just received her green card and her middle name is wrong. When we got married she took my last name and changed her middle name to her maiden name, as is the custom in her country. I filed all the paperwork for her AOS, EAD and AP in her new name and all the notices they sent back were mailed to her in her correct name including the interview notice, but they somehow put her old middle name on the card.

I read that you can file form I-90 and it will take a long time to process, and that we would have to send back the original green card. We really want to get her drivers license, update her SS card and get employment now as she has been waiting since her arrival early this year. If we send it back would we have to wait until the new card comes with her correct name to get a job and license?

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi guys! I am one of the late biometric appointment receivers! Sent my documents on May 13th and took my biometrics this thursday! Today my status changed to interview is ready to be scheduled! Who can share their statistics on how long have you waited since this status changed to "interview was scheduled"?

I wasn't checking the status online at the time but we received our interview letter about 6 weeks after the biometrics appointment, and had the Interview about 11 weeks after the biometrics.

Sounds like a good interview to me too. I just got my notice for Sept 24th,  could I ask what you brought with you aside from pictures and health insurance? Did you reprint any of the forms or affidavit, etc?

I was thinking to bring all the legal stuff like birth certs, marriage certs, etc along with all the evidence of a bonafide marriage + obviously IDs

I made a new affidavit of support and got a letter from my employer and the last 2 months of paystubs. I also brought a copy of the original AOS/EAD/Travel and copy of the original K1 application. Oh and her SS card and a copy of it, her and my passport, both birth certificates and copies. Basically everything it asked for on the letter for interview.

The interviewer asked for none of these though, haha. The only thing he wanted was the further proof as he already had in our file all the documents I had already submitted. But better to be prepared than not 🙂

  6. We had our interview today and I am unsure what to think. It felt like it went well, we answered all the questions and the interviewer was friendly enough but he did not recommend approval. He gave us a paper that said further review was needed, I didn't see him print the document so I think it was already prepared before we came in. He said all our documents are in order and asked if we wanted to submit anything else so we gave him a few pictures and health insurance copy and cell phone bill. We didnt answer anything wrong or say anything off so Im not sure why they would need further review. Hopefully I am just overthinking it and they will approve it soon

Congratulations, that's such a great news!

Did you have your status changed to "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" before you got a letter about an interview? I have filed 05/02 and had Biometrics 06/05 and this status has been visible for two weeks by now. It gives me some hope! :D

We did not check the website at all so we never saw any status updates.

I'm so happy for you! Thank you for updating the timeline! Can you also share what your notification process was like? Did you only receive the interview letter in the mail or did you notice a change on the website or get an email/text about a letter being sent before you received it. If there were changes on the website, which website and what changes did you have?

I'm curious if my stalking the website is in vain or if I will actually see movement on there before I get an interview letter (which feels like it will be 100 years from now haha) Thanks!

We just received the letter in the mail. We were thinking it would take a lot longer so we didn't start looking at the website yet, and did not get any texts or emails. During the K1 process we were glued to the website, but this time we figured we would take it easy and wait a few months before getting anxious about it.

Wow, congratulations! I am from Columbus Ohio. I filled for AOS on May 13th and still haven't received my biometrics appointment .

Thanks! I'm sure yours will come soon too. 🙂

SLEC can get carried away for sure.   There is no ears showing requirement.

Here is a link to the "official" requirement  https://ph.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/photos/

Yes it's crazy, I had linked her to that page of requirements before taking the photos.

Do you know if we will need to submit a new digital photo for the DS-160? Or is it ok if it is a different photo than the ones given to medical and the embassy on interview day?

  10. Hello,

My fiance is at the SLEC getting her medical and they are demanding the passport photos have her ears visible in them. I looked at the embassy webpage requirements and it doesn't say anywhere that her ears need to be visible. In fact it has multiple examples of acceptable photos of women with hair completely covering their ears.

We already submitted the DS-160 with her digital passport photo and scheduled her interview. The SLEC is now making her take new photos with her ears visible, will this be a problem if her 2x2 passport photos given for the medical and embassy interview are different than the one submitted digitally for DS-160?

    Thanks

I have the same problem. How did you set an appointment after receiving that "upload passport" thing?

We had the same problem. We uploaded the passport photo then had to wait for an email with a new password they created for us. After that we were able to input the payment receipt number and schedule the interview. She uploaded the passport photo on Thursday and she got the email Monday morning, this was all for immigrant visa.

I'd be tempted to just ditch the whole thing and use a different email address and set up a new account and start over clean (assuming you never linked your payment to the profile)

I'm starting to think the same thing. Thanks for your help

I just looked through our email traffic with the Embassy when scheduling the interview.  The ONLY email we received was the confirmation of the appointment.

Are you scheduling with the Non immigrant unit or the immigrant unit?

    What does her dashboard say?

Is this the website she is on?  https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/applicanthome

I believe she initially tried to register for nonimmigrant but there was a popup that said k1 applicants should apply as immigrant visa so she did that. I think that is the website she used but I will check with her when she wakes up. The only option it shows for her is upload passport or logout.

Has she completed the DS160?  Printed the confirmation page with barcode?

    • The DS-160 "times out" after 20 minutes without user activity, and your data will be lost. To safeguard against data loss, click the "Save" button frequently and download the file to your local computer. Select a place on your computer to save the DS-160 file, browse to that location, and click the "Save" button in the "Save As" window.
    • You are required to upload a photograph as a part of the DS-160 process. Detailed guidelines for taking and submitting a quality photograph are on the U.S. Department of State website here.
    • The completed DS-160 application form will generate an alpha-numeric barcode confirmation page. The printed confirmation page is required for the interview at the Embassy/Consulate.

Yes she completed that. This is the registration on the embassy page where it asks to submit passport. At the bottom of the screenshot it says upload successful, you will be contacted by email when your request is approved and account changed. I think the part above about the DS160 is just a reminder. She is still waiting or an email so she can proceed

    Check your spam folder?

If you have paid the fee and it is linked to your user profile,  see if it will schedule

It wont let us complete the registration. She uploaded the passport photo and it won't let her do anything else. Still no email, she checked her spam folder too.

    Is this normal for registration?
