  1. Awesome! Thanks for the links. We'll definitely report back once we've completed our trip. We leave 2 weeks from today. I'm surprised there are not more experiences out there but I suppose that's probably because they are few as many people who make the mistake get fear mongered into thinking they have no other options other than to pay huge fees to either get their name changed or cancel and re-book .
  2. I stated that we booked the entire trip under one booking so there are no separate tickets involved. I made sure to point that out because I knew if I did not then that was something a lot of people were going to start asking.... Will do! But I'm still hoping, either way, that some brave soul will be willing to share their experience as well.
  3. So I realize this topic has been tossed around numerous times but the variations in how it has been asked vary greatly. So here is the scenario I am faced with. I know and always book my wife's ticket under her maiden name since that is what her current passport indicates. However, I must have lapsed this time around and accidentally booked her ticket under our married name......and did not realize until now. I'm not looking for someone to tell me that you always need to book tickets using the name that matches the passport, what I am looking for are actual experiences. I have called United (whom we booked our flights with) and because they booking involves another airline other than United, they cannot change the last name as they do not have the ability to modify portions of the booking that are operated by other airlines. Note, this was all done on a single booking with no separate tickets. The agent indicated that if the entire travel was operated under United flights then they could change the last name. What she said was that in situations like this, which she mentioned happens a lot, their standard protocol is to place a note/marker within their booking system which will alert all airlines stating that the person traveling on this ticket will be using a passport under a different last name but is indeed one in the same individual who booked the ticket under a different last name (In this case our married name). The agent assured me that we would not run into any issues. After I got off the call I started speculating all sorts of scenarios in which this could go wrong (the engineer in me)....especially during transit. What if security, whom are not associated with the airline give us issues during transit....if there is a required security check (this isn't always the case). I ended up calling United again for a 2nd and 3rd time just to be sure and each time it was the same explanation without hesitation. So I am beginning to think that this does indeed happen more often than not and that there are people who go ahead and go through with it but fail to report back their experiences. The majority of the advice I've seen on here seem to be the standard definitive, "no, you can't, period, have the airline change the ticket or buy another one or else you're screwed" without any actual real life accounts but rather only based on what they've all researched on google......similar to what I've done. So is there anyone out there that has actually traveled faced with the same circumstances we are under that can share their experience? Oh, and before I forget, this is for International Travel not Domestic. If no one steps up then I suppose we'll just go ahead and be the guinea pigs and will report back later once our trip is complete.
  4. The biggest concern for everyone around this subject seems to be whether or not Global Entry works in situations where the GE is under your married name but your passport is not (Maiden). The other questions that also keeps being brought up is as to what last name you us when applying for GE. Well, it should not even be a question as there is no option to choose. Applications are done based on the last name tied to your Green Card...period. The first couple of times we traveled internationally after having received the Global Entry (Married Name Under Green Card) it did not work for my wife as her flights were always booked using her passport that is still under her maiden last name. Every time we tried to scan her passport at the GE kiosks it would not work. Fast forward to our last international trip just last month and things have changed. As one poster early in this thread stated, if the particular airport you are flying into utilizes the new scanner systems then no documentation is required. My wife and I simply faced the scanner and were immediately recognized. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. This was at the Houston Bush International Airport. So in the end, it is going to depend on what system of entry is being used at the airport you will be flying into. If it's a scanner then you'll be fine, otherwise, just plan on assuming your GE will not work if you need to scan your passport or show any type of documentation.
  5. Lol......completely agree with you. The internet....where anyone can be anything they want!
  6. If you are not worried then that's awesome! You're a better man than I!
  7. Bummer, that's a pretty long wait with no action done on the biometrics step. If I were in your shoes I'd probably be sweating it right about now so I'd suggest giving them a call to get some feedback as to why you haven't received anything in regards to your biometrics.
  8. How do you know if they re-used your prior biometrics? Did you receive some form of notification but yet they haven't updated your profile? Lol....agree with you on the business model bit.
  9. How about your biometrics? Did you already get that part completed?
  10. Thanks! Glad to know there is at least one other experiencing the same thing. I've asked the question before if anyone else is experiencing this but no one stepped up and answered accordingly. Only received answers based on opinions rather than actual experience.
  11. We are SRC, filed in October 2021. Did the Biometrics in December 2021. Our USCIS profile page has not been updated to reflect that biometrics has been taken just shows what it's been showing since we filed last October "Case Was Received".
  12. You know what? Apologies, you're absolutely right. I am 100% in the wrong. I think I would prefer to just avoid unnecessary conflict.
  13. Not exactly sure why you specifically targeted me to share your experience with...... If you're trying to somehow contradict the post you quoted me on I'm sorry to say that I still stand by what I said. The risk still exists regardless of experience. Everyone needs to know that and decide themselves what their tolerance for risk is. My wife and I just got back from a trip to Bali 2 weeks ago and ran into zero issues much like yourself when entering. We always felt like the risk was minimal at best and had were fully confident that my wife would not encounter any issues when returning. So obviously, our tolerance for risk when it comes to traveling internationally is quite high.
  14. Status still only shows that USCIS has received petition. Wife did the biometrics this past December and that hasn’t even been reflected as an update 7 months later. Not really too anxious or even surprised about it though. We figured it would be a long wait. Actually kind of surprised after having gone through the K1 and Permanent Resident Process, some people are still freaking out after barely 2 or 3 months of no updates.
  15. Me and the wife just got back from a trip to Bali. Our POE was Houston, which is where we live, and my wife provided the officer with her green card and extension letter. The officer quickly glanced over both and waved us through. Took all but 5 minutes. We are both members of global entry so that made it even quicker. Oh, the global entry machines now recognize you by facial recognition. No need to even scan your passport now....it's pretty sweet. When checking in to our flight back to the US in Indonesia, the check in agent asked for my wife's green card, we gave him both the green card and the extension letter and all was good. No questions or confusion around any of it. I imagine if we ran into no issues in Indonesia of all places, then it's going to be highly unlikely anyone would run into issues with the extension letter anywhere.
  16. You can use Nexus at any Global Entry machine. If you are near an interview center for Nexus it still has a slight advantage over Global overall aside from not being able to get the fee reimbursed on a CC. Nexus carries all the same benefits as Global Entry in addition to having access to quick lanes at land crossings into Canada that Global does not.
  17. Fair enough. But even with the annual fee (assuming you get a card with an annual fee of no more than say $100) it will still end up cheaper than having to book a trip to the interview location. Also, you can't simply overlook the value of the other benefits a card might offer. It isn't like the Global Entry Fee is the only benefit that justifies the annual fee. Another way to get around it is by simply asking any relatives or friends if they happen to have a credit card that covers reimbursement for Global. If they haven't already used it or aren't planning on using it you can simply use their card to pay for your application. When applying for Global they don't associate payment with the applicant nor does the credit company either. In fact I did this very thing with my parents and my wife with 2 separate cards that I have. I didn't use that perk since I'm already a Global member.
  18. Nexus would make more sense if you plan on visiting Canada quite often and live in the Northern part of the US as interview locations are primarily located in the northern US or Canada. The fee may be cheaper but if you end up having to travel just to attend an interview then it really isn't. Also, no credit cards that I know of will reimburse you for Nexus application fees. So if you don't live anywhere near a Nexus interview site and don't travel to Canada a whole lot it makes more sense to stick with Global Entry. As it stands most credit cards will cover the entire $100 fee so the idea of it being more expensive than Nexus is moot.
  19. You just love confrontation don't you? I've noticed that most of your posts are always written as if what you say is the way it is, no questions asked, period. If anyone ventures to have even a slightly different approach or angle you never seem to want to just let it go. We are talking about a process that has a multitude of outcomes that can be difficult to control. Some situations/questions have solutions/answers that are clear cut and defined but in many situations they aren't as clear cut. The best we can do is offer "advice" or "recommend" understanding that what we say isn't always going to be the case as uncertainty is inevitable. Bottom line is that risk is there when traveling outside of the country. So it's up to each person on whether or not they want to leave the country knowing that the possibility of complications when returning is a possibility.
  20. You make an attempt at politely and diplomatically clarifying the issue. One thing is for sure, puffing your chest out claiming you have the right to entry and they have no authority to deny entry isn't going to end well.
  21. Lol, perfectly stated. I'm totally with you on this one. A lot of folks on here love to dole out information as if whatever they are saying is gospel rather than just "recommending or advising" Whenever I answer a question or chime in I always "recommend" or "advise" and never suggest that what I am saying is 100%. Trying to argue with "it's my legal right" or "this information is good enough" when dealing with airline agents, immigration agents, etc......is not going to help, in fact, it will more than likely annoy said individual more than anything else.
  22. Cool, at least I now know there is some consistency with their failure to update our cases in system. It's a good thing to get some feedback from actual experiences. Hate to say it but I'm getting somewhat tired of all the people that just love to spout off answers based on speculation or opinion.
  23. I realize they are not reliable, however, they can also be very sporadic with some getting updated while other do not so it would be nice to see some actual feedback from others on what they've encountered just to get a further tally on the dysfunctionality of it all. When we did the K1 as as well as the AOS our cases did update with information over the entire process on these sites so it's interesting that this time around it's not doing anything.
  24. Thanks but I just tried and it shows the same thing. I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same situation as us. I'm not overly worried about it since we have the proof if necessary, just curious to see what others have as far as updates go in their status pages.
  25. Out of curiosity did you happen to check the status of your case occasionally with USCIS? https://myaccount.uscis.gov/ https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/logon.do I only ask because the status on ours has not changed since the receipt of our case which was on Oct. 5. We also had a biometrics appointment on 12/3 and that was never reflected as an update on our status page (At least we have the stamp on the biometrics letter that shows we came in for the appointment for proof). We've checked both sites and both have the same information to this date.....the receipt date of 10/5 and that's it. We have an SRC case number so it is under the Texas Service Center. I'm just wondering if your status ever reflected any changes such as the biometrics or anything else outside of the initial receipt date. Thanks!
