  1. For my DCF in Ghana they wanted to see at least 6 months of residency. Don’t know if Mexico will be similar.
  2. The fastest way would be for him to do direct consular filing under exceptional circumstances (job offer). The issue here is that it is up to the embassy’s discretion on whether to except the filing or not. He can’t have submitted the I-130 previously through normal processing, so this is a bit risky, but it might give them more time to make sure they are indeed a good match before getting married. It is something worth looking into so you understand all your options and the risks.
  3. We miss USCIS so much that after my wife got her citizenship we decided to file three more I-130s with more on the way!
  4. Try calling these numbers: +233 (0)57 8291 160, +233 (0)26 7425 160, +233 (0) 57 5065 051, +233 (0)26 4315 061, +233 (0)57 8585 061, or +233 (0)57 8261 160
  5. The worst that happens with DCF is that you send an email to the embassy and they say no. You can file the I-130 if the answer is no. A delay of a few weeks is worth potentially saving a year and a half.
  6. I wonder if your husband came back he might still be able to do a DCF filing. He could make the case that he was in the US in preparation for the move. I think I’d look into this option more if I were you. Does your husband have an unexpired residence permit for your country?
  7. Still a bit more to wait. See September visa bulletin: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2023/visa-bulletin-for-september-2023.html
  8. I’m glad to hear that things seem to be on the right track
  9. Just checking back in to see if there’s any update; did you get the interview rescheduled?
  10. This is the link to check document reciprocity: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Venezuela.html
  11. Did you submit a service request for a case outside of normal processing time? https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayONPTForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=onpt
  12. If you were to need to restart the process, then I would look into DCF. Have your wife find a job in the US and then notify the embassy. It seems that they are accepting many petitions for people who have spouses relocating for jobs. This would speed up the timeline significantly.
  13. We applied two weeks after marriage. Not an issue.
  14. Other places that perform same sex marriages and you both can enter without visas: Argentina, Andorra, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, South Africa, Taiwan, & Uruguay. I may have missed some…Don’t know how easy it is for non-residents to get married in these places, but a jumping off point for research if you’re not sold on doing an online marriage.
  15. How much time have you spent together in person? That is the most important evidence for CR/IR-1. Maybe do an Utah Zoom marriage and use the money saved from K-1 process to visit/meet somewhere. Or both travel somewhere where you can get married. K-1 seems like a waste of time and money to me.
  16. The documents you’ll need are your and your sibling’s birth certificates to establish your relationship. Then you need a document to establish your US citizenship (US passport or naturalization certificate). We submitted online recently and it was very straightforward. My preference is online over paper.
  17. Is she in Accra? My brother-in-law did his in Tamale and it was pretty easy and only took three weeks. This was a couple of years ago, so they could be having problems up there now too.
  18. Ugh. I can remember getting to the passport application center at 3am to get in line. We never made it to the front of the line and we’re told to come back the next day. Corruption can make things really difficult.
  19. I would do both. When we did DCF, the CO misread my financial documents and was asking for a joint sponsor. Luckily my wife was able to point out her mistake, but we had that joint sponsor paperwork ready. The worst thing is to have to send it in later and be delayed in the process. Who knows when they get to it.
  20. I would probably go with the tax/yearly income because they are looking at guidelines that are expressed as yearly income, not hourly rate.
  21. From what I’m reading, you wouldn’t lose your Greek citizenship just from gaining US citizenship. Unless you specifically renounced your Greek citizenship you are still a citizen.
