  1. My fiancee is also a Filipino working in Thailand. She can do the medical and interview in Bangkok. The i-129f asks which consulate the beneficiary will attend for the interview.

A few things to keep in mind if she does the interview in Thailand:

    1. She'll need police clearances from both the Philippines and Thailand. I found the Philippines clearance very easy to get. On the other hand, the Thai police clearance is only obtained in Bangkok and takes up to 6 weeks to arrive.

    2. She'll need to get a CENOMAR from the Philippines, the certificate of no marriage, or the "single" certificate.

    3. The K1 processes is streamlined in the Philippines from what I can tell.

I like the idea of the thaitravelclinic, but I just summed up all the vaccines required (below) on the medical certificate instruction, and it totaled out to over 8000 baht.   Heard the Red Cross was around 3000, and as low as 1500 if you stuck with the minimum required for the K1.   Am I missing something?

    Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis
     measles, rubella and mumps
 Polio (inactivated) or (live oral)
     Hepatitis A
     Hepatitis B
     Haemophilus influenzae type b(Hib)
     Varicella
     Pneumococcal for adults
     Pneumococcal for children
     Meningococcal
     Influenza
     Rotavirus

My fiance went to the red cross and the DTAP, polio and influenza cost her 3,000 baht. Some people have already had some vaccines so that can make differences in cost. From what she was charged compared to the travel clinic, the Red Cross seems more expensive. Then again, my fiance doesn't speak Thai so I'm not sure if she really knows what they charged for as they also drew blood.  She is returning to Bangkok for more vaccines next week so we'll see what happens. I do know for sure the recommended medical exam hospital is more expensive as the MMR alone cost 2,000 Baht.

  3. Thank you very much for the detailed information! My fiance will try to get an appointment at the Travel Clinic. The Embassy set the case status to Ready two days ago, so we expect packet 3 to arrive any day now. Unfortunately we need to wait another couple weeks for the police clearance to arrive. Funny thing, in the Philippines she was able to get the police clearance same day.

Hmm, for an adult, only a single TDAP shot is required with a booster shot after 10 years.   Hep A and Hep B are multi dose vaccinations and MMR may require a second dose in some cases.

The Embassies follow CDC guidelines.  https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/adult.html#f3

My fiancee received her shots both at the Thai Red Cross and Thai Travel Clinic.   The Thai Travel Clinic (within a 10 minute walk from the Victory Monument BTS) is a more "modern" facility and is also reasonably priced, but an appointment is preferred.   Here is their cost schedule:

Thanks for info. That's what I thought. I suppose it doesn't help that my fiance doesn't speak Thai either.

  5. Hi All,

At the good advice of you knowledgeable people, my fiance went to the Red Cross in Bangkok to get vaccines. She received the TDAP with Polio plus Influenza, but was told she needed to get the TDAP again in one month as a series. Anyone experience the same? She was also charged 3,000 Baht for those vaccines and drawing blood for analysis.

From my experience and from what I've read, they are not vaccines administered in a series for adults. Just curious if anyone has run into this. Would it be a big deal to skip the 2nd shot? Catching up on vaccines has become more complicated than I expected.

As a note, she went to Bumrungrad to check it out and got the MMR. They charged her 2,000 Baht so yeah, they are more expensive.

  6. I completed the I-134 Affidavit of Support in April 2018 and handed it to my fiance. I think she may have her interview in late September. Does anyone know or think I will need to send an updated form and documents? It will be about 5 months old. I didn't see time requirements on current I-134.

After getting notified and receiving your NOA2 send an email to NVC asking for them to email both you and your fiancé if any updates occur. In the past they have replied when your case was received from USCIS, another when your case number has been assigned and when your case is being sent out to your Embassy without you having to make any further queries by phone. Here is where you send this information to:

    Email address: NVCINQUIRY@state.gov

    Subject: Your receipt #

Body: Petitioner's Complete Name Birthday ; Beneficiary's Complete Name Birthday

    Or use the online form

This worked! I sent the email as you stated over the weekend and I received updates today.

Doesn't the PI have its own requirements that a PI K-1 visa holder must meet in order to leave the country?  Wouldn't she have to comply with those requirements by trying to leave the PI with a K-1 visa?

Good point. The one I can think of is the seminar for abuse/trafficking. Plus, leaving the country is an ordeal in itself for Filipinos. I have friend who's fiance was a police woman in the Philippines. She wrote on the exit form that she is a police woman, and when asked for her approved leave form, they denied her outright when she couldn't produce them. She was coming to the U.S. on a K1. It took some connections and a lot of money to get her cleared. I've seen my fiance go through the ordeal of needing work letters and itineraries to leave the Phils.

  9. Hello, My fiance is in living in Thailand and doing the K1 process in Thailand. Depending on when she receives her visa, we may want to visit her home country, Philippines, en route to the U.S.

For example, she gets the visa in Thailand, we meet in the Philippines, then depart to the U.S.

Will there be an issue if she leaves from the Phils to the US, if she received the visa from the US embassy in Thailand?

You can, but for Bangkok there is really no need to rush too quickly.   It seems it is pretty easy to get appointments at Bunrundgrad.   Your case will probably go "In Transit" on Tuesday and after that it will be at least a week more until the Embassy will tag you as "Ready".  I would wait until you are showing "Ready" status unless there are logistical reasons to do it before.

Thank you for the info. She will be travelling to Bangkok in about a month so I was thinking it may be a good idea to get it done at the same time. I assume if she did the medical exam early, she can pick up the results when she returns to Bangkok for the interview if it's a few weeks apart. She doesn't have the flexibility to take more than a couple days off work as she's a teacher.

Hi. I have now received the packet 3 checklist. There are items that do not apply, like death certificates, obviously. Is the request for a marriage certificate used if 2 people ended up getting married BEFORE completing and filing the ds160, and then the pending interview? Thx.

It is for previous marriages of either partner. If you filed for K1, do not get married until in the U.S. with the visa.

  12. Great info within this thread, thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences! We received our NOA2 a few weeks ago and have been preparing for packet 3. I agree with everyone, it's a bit confusing. Interestingly enough, my fiance is actually a Filipina and from what I've seen, their process is very streamlined compared to Thailand.

Here is the link for where to get vaccination done on the cheap. You can wait until the medical exam, but they charge much more for them there.

I see your from Ohio, spent my first 30 years of my life there. Lived in Cleveland or a suburb of Cleveland most of the time. Don't miss Ohio that much for sure. No more snow and ice for me. But your towards the south I think, so maybe not as bad as up North we get the lake effect snow.

Thank you for the Links! I'll review this with her this weekend.

Yeah, Ohio... I've lived in this state about 25 years total with long stretches elsewhere.  We don't get the lake effect down here, but I don't care for the snow except how nice it looks the first time of the season, although I can forgo that altogether. I lived in Sourthern Cali and much prefer that weather. People here talk about missing the seasons if they moved. I always disagree stating I used to think that until I lived in year round warm climates. I don't give a hoot for the seasons.

  14. @Loren Y Thank you for the reply!

The police clearance can only be obtained from Bangkok? I was hoping she could go to the local station and do it.

I didn't realize it would take that long for medical. We just discussing the vaccinations and I didn't know a Red Cross existed there. I'll tell her about it.

That's a long time in Bangkok. My fiancee is a teacher, so I don't think she can be there that long, which is why I think we'll break it up into two trips. Do you think she can do the medical exam and pick up the results the week of the interview? I'm curious how that all works. I have two buddies who went through this process 2 years ago in the Philippines. Their Fiance's spent a few days in Manila for medical and interview, but it seems the Phils goes through a lot of interviews.

It looks like your case moved rather quickly from the NVC to embassy. I hope ours goes that fast as well.

  15. Hi everyone! My fiance will be going through the K1 process in Thailand. She is a Filipina who has lived and worked there for a year and a half. I have some questions:

    1. Does she get the single status document from Thailand? She has the document from the Philippines. Would the Thai government have that info for her?

    2. Does she need the P3 in order to get the police clearance, or can she get that now with a NOA2 approval?

    3. She lives in Phuket. Is it a good idea to schedule the medical exam two days before the embassy interview? Or would it be better to make two trips?

The added complexity of her being from the Philippines has me a bit worried. Any input is much appreciated!

  16. Hi Folks! Our petition was approved July 26, 2018 so I'm on to the next step with you all!

I looked through the P3 stuff for Thailand to prepare. I filled out and gave my fiance the i-134 Affidavit of Support in late April.

At this point I just wait for a NVC case# now? Do they mail it to you or do they have a site like the USCIS where you can track things?

After such a long time filing the i-129f, I feel like the process has started over again haha.
