You dont have to be so literal. The courtesy letter is very common and it wouldnt matter anyways because, like I said, it doesnt apply to K1s who submitted the unexpired medical at POE.

haha I was just kidding.. :D I think most of the time everyone worries way TOO MUCH because all we do is wait for info from USCIS and then we overthink everything.. lol

We made it this far and it should not be an issue for us unless the relationship is fake or something like that..

Let's all enjoy this beautiful time of the year! I think I read on this thread or another one that next year at this time we wish we would be able to get time off.. 🎄

    Congrats!

My interview is also scheduled on Janaury 10th in Boston. :)

I am not sure about the medical exam though. I did my medical exam back in Germany (Freiburg) in April. I had all necessry vaccinations (except the flu shot) and I sent the DS-3025 in our AOS package to USCIS. However, shortly after submitting I received a letter of courtesey from USCIS saying that I didn't provide the I-693 (medical exam)....It also says that evidence might be necessary for the interview. Now I am not sure if I have to redo the medical exam to be on the safe side for the interview. Ayone else with the same problem?

    Thanks! :)

    Greetings from Massachusetts!

yay congrats to you too! :)

I only submitted the DS 3025 with my package but they didn't tell me that I didn't provide the I 693. Did you get a RFE or was it just in the interview notice? It's on my interview notice but I'm not going to get another one unless they tell me to do so at the interview.. I looked at your timeline and depending on when you had your medical it should still be valid. I believe it's valid for a year!? I'm not too worried about it and I don't wanna pay for an exam again if I don't need it.

    Greetings from North Carolina!

PS: Visiting Boston next week! :D

    Hi guys,

I have a question regarding name change. When I got married to my husband, I didn't change my last name. But now I do want to change my last name to his . Since we got married in NYC, I know we only need to remarry for the purpose of changing my last name and have an updated marriage certificate with my new name on it.

Since I have already filed all the documents, I am wondering if I can request a name change at the interview by showing the updated marriage certificate, or should I send USCIS the updated marriage certificate to request a name change?

    Thank you!!

before I filed for AOS I called USCIS and asked them what name I should put as legal name. I wanted to change my name but on the colorado marriage license/certificate is no option to do put the new name and I didn't have any ID with my new name. Anyway they told me to use the name I want to use for the green card - which is my new married now. I was able to change my social security card to my new name and got my military dependent ID in my new name.. (which I showed at the biometrics appointment) but I believe you can change your name afterwards.. not sure how long this is gonna take but I would recommend calling USCIS or ask at the interview because I would assume they can change things there..

if you already have a social security card with your old name.. you need to change social security first before you can change any ID..

I understand. I have a multi-lingual birth certificate extract, but after some research I noticed that many applicants received a RFE for not providing a full translation of the document, so I had it translated anyways.

Btw I just got a confirmation on Avvo that the Apostille is not needed, phew!

    Good luck with everything

    oh good no apostille needed..

honestly I wouldn't know what they want a translation of.. because on my birth certificate everything is in german and english as well.. (and many other languages)

I got my military dependent ID with my international birth certificate and they didn't have a problem with it.

  5. hey everyone just wanted to give an update on my EAD process.. I requested an expedite last week because of financial hardship.. hurricane florence hit north carolina 2 weeks ago.. and we had to evacuate spend quite some money on hotel rooms, gas and new food/supplies.. so I thought I give it a shot and try to expedite.. I received an email on monday and they asked for proof of job offer and that I should fax it to them.. did that the same day.. now I'm waiting for a approval or denial.. 🤷‍♀️

Anyone have their bio at Louisville KY? Is it easy to navigate? I need to go there next Thursday and my husband is in between night shifts. I'd drive alone but not sure how easy the parking is and all. Haven't been to a big city before.

hey I'm not from Louisville but just googled the address on google maps and it looks like there are quite a few parking lots around.. I would recommend you google parking prices for the location and make sure if they take cards or if you need cash.. my guess is they will take cards.. it's 2018 :D but you never know..

there is a social security office right next to it.. so it could be that there is free parking..

My nearest field office is officially indianapolis cause we are in the south of Indiana. That is a 4 hour drive. But Kentucky's fieldoffice in Louisville is only an hour and 15 minutes from where I live. I hope I can change my appointment to that field office. At least for the biometrics. It's not 10 minutes of just scanning fingerprints and a signature, right? Feels stupid to have to drive 8 hours just for that.

hey this is the website where you can find the Application Support Center (ASC) for your zip code if you enter your zip code.

    https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=ASC

ASC is where you have your biometrics appointment.. field office is a different location you can find it here..

    hope this is helpful! :)

    Dear Community,

i hope someone who comes from Germany can help me.

My story is a little bit complicated.

(Please read carefully before you respond)

So I got married to my husband in June. We just filed the paperwork for the Greencard, sent it away with my NEW lastname (his last name only).

Now I have to go back to Germany in October to work as a flight attendant.

(I know i might won’t have my travel permission yet, but let’s pretend I get them on time for my travels).

Do I have to change my last name in my passport? I would love to change it when my passport expires, but not just yet.

Am I allow to travel with my marriage certificate? My Greencard will have my New last name only and my passport with my maiden name, is that allowed?

    2. Question:

If i would change my last name in Germany

for example if my maiden last name is smith and my husbands last name is Johnson,

am I allow to have my German passport‘s last name Smith Johnson (both last names) and my Greencard only with the last name Johnson?

thank you for your respond in advance, I know it’s so complicated...

please no judgement, I am only asking for advice...

I've been looking into this as well (but not super urgent for me..) and found something regarding the name change.. you have to do a name declaration first.. this might be helpful -> https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/04-FamilyMatters/name-declaration-marriage/911866

if you are still registered in germany.. you can probably go to your "Bürgeramt" and make the chances..

Nice...I'm looking at your timeline and you're about a week ahead of me. So, I'm guessing my husband's biometrics appointment letter will be coming next week and the appointment will probably be the following week after yours!!!! At least that's what I'm hoping for!

yeah I've been checking other timelines and I think that sounds realistic! fingers crossed! this is so exciting!! :D

I am self employed well - I own my own company. I really do not take a paycheck regularly, so hence no Pay Stubs and I'm the sole officer of the corporation so... I was going to attach the 1120S form from the IRS. Does anyone know if this will be suffice? I am above the minimum so should it even be a problem? Or giving them too much create a problem? Anyone have some thoughts here?

Hey I honestly have NO clue about it but just googled it and this is what I found -> https://learn.simplecitizen.com/2017/06/self-employed-sponsor-uscis-form-864-affidavit-support/ maybe that helps..

I think the best way to find out is to call them. I had a question about the I-485 and they were able to help me and also were really nice. 🙂
