hello, may I ask what happened with this case? thanks

Sorry I never did update this. We ended up putting in a request for help with the issue to our state senators office. This actually did help and someone higher up contacted us from the social security office. They said we would have to apply for a replacement card and they would reimburse. This all had to be done very quickly because they were about to close out their fiscal year or something similar and wouldn’t be able to reimburse after a certain date like a week later. We called the district clerk office and luckily spoke to someone who knew how to apply for only a lost passport card replacement without invalidating the regular passport we still had and needed to be able to use. The clerks office was able to squeeze us in and then we had to go to SSA office and it took like 3 hours before they issued a check for the passport card replacement cost. So basically a bunch of hassle and driving around and waiting, but in the end we got it replaced for free.

  2. Hi, does anyone here have experience with getting your local Social Security office to replace a lost identity document? We sent in our passport card back in April to update citizenship. The office processed the application and we got the new SS card but never received the passport card back. We have called multiple times to ask them to look for it and nothing happens and they never get back to us. Sometimes they say it must be in their office and they just need to look for it, but no one will call us to tell us if they found out. Other times they say it must have been sent out and it is just lost in the mail. One time they told us they would pay to replace it. How do we go about getting them to pay for the replacement card? Thanks!

We decided to call again and told them we felt it had been rejected in error because on the state department website it clearly states that the passport card is proof of identity and citizenship. To our surprise the person on the phone agreed and said it was a mistake. They are supposedly processing it now, fingers crossed!

Here's an update, we did get the new social security in the mail, so yay for that. No sign of the passport card being returned though. Guess we will give it another week or so and then call again

Ive only read of 1 instance of PC accepted.

Call back both offices in Austin, see which one has a "drop box". Leave a letter with your application and NC, ask for trackable return.

Mine outside LA sent it back UPS in a hard envelope.

  5. Got an update back from the Austin office. They are not accepting the passport card as proof of citizenship and request us to mail in the original NC. The letter stated we could call and make an appointment if we felt uncomfortable mailing it. Called and they said they are not offering any appointments whatsoever and that the letter is wrong. Any tips on how we can dispute this considering many others have been successful with PC only?

For what it is worth, here is my timeline (based on the tip provided by @seetsuh in this thread back in March):

April 20, 2021 - Sent Social Security Application with my Passport Card via FedEx to Social Security Office in Dallas

May 8th, 2021 - Received my Passport Card via USPS Certified Mail and Letter of Receipt (stating that I am to expect my new Social Security Card in about two weeks) from the Field Office Manager, Dallas

May18th, 2021 - Received the Social Security Card via standard USPS mail

Thanks for sharing. I called the office today and they did receive it and scanned it, but no one has processed it yet. I guess some locations are just a lot further behind. At least they didn't lose it!

  7. I spoke to my local SS office about this today and they said management is advising that people just wait until the office reopens. They said that is expected to be mid to late November. Apparently some people have been mailing in the documents but original documents have gone missing in the mail and they don't recommend it.

Yes i applied on July 2nd and they cashed the Check on July 14th. TBH i am in no rush as i am moving my travel dates in Jan just in case. but let see the website says routine processing time is 10-12 weeks i am already at 10 weeks and 6 days. I will give it complete 12 weeks and hopefully ill get approve before that. i will keep you posted.

Yes I think you have to count from when they cashed the check, before that they don't even have the application in their possession

I had called them a few weeks ago and was told that they were briefly hampered by the hurricane/storm that hit NO area. Having said that, I saw someone on the tracker who sent in their application last week of July had their application approved last week. So, we have some hope.

I'm pretty sure this person posted they got their senator involved because they had upcoming travel and that is how they got it before others

still no update from NO office, application submitted on 11-Aug.

If anyone else has application in NO office please let me know.

Sidenote - I did contact senator and they are willing to help, but I didn't really have a good reason other than it's been close to 2 months and will probably be another 2 months before NO application processes it.

you still have a ways to go, we applied mid-July and still waiting on New Orleans

If you can simply google New Orleans passport center and check the reviews a lot of people having the same issue which is delay at this passport agency, i live in Michigan but i am no sure how my application ended up in NO.

You were July 2nd right? You will be approved soon I think

i applied for passport for my mother on july 2nd 2020, and they cashed out the check on 7/14, no tracking number was given at USPS and not envelope, The USPS just collected the original documents and form. now its been almost 8 weeks called them twice and they told they cant give an estimate when they will deliver, last call i got the application number and processing facility and it came to my surprise that  its now with New Orleans passport facility which is the slowest i believe to process, I ill give it another 2-3 weeks i am planning a travel in December and i really need the passport.

You should be getting approved very soon. Someone who applied at end of June and was at New Orleans just posted they got approved a couple of days ago. The state dept website also now shows they are completely processed through June. I think New Orleans is most behind. It does sound like the post office sat on your application for a week though, our check was cashed about 1 week after we applied and yours wasn't cashed until almost 2 weeks later. Please update when you do get approved because we should be right behind you!

    Hi Friends,

Jus received an e-mail from DOS stipulating that my PP and PC where mailed to me today. Didn't get the approved notice just the shipment. My document were sent to New Orleans according to Customer service on the toll free number, but my PP is arriving from Tucson, AZ.

I applied for PP and PC using USPS in Miami on June 24 2020.

Good luck to y'all waiting, i am done.

Congrats and thanks for the data point! I wonder if New Orleans has moved applications to other locations since they are so far behind? Ours is supposed to be there too, we applied mid-July. Still waiting.

I did get an email that my passport was shipped today. The customer service told me today earlier that it was at El Paso.

    applied: July 21st

    Application Received: July 28th

    Passport shipped: August 24th.

Although, the USPS check for 50 bucks hasn't been cashed yet which is very strange.

Congrats! Applied 5 days earlier than you also in Austin.. status still shows In Processing. Sigh.
