Congrats, you live somewhere with very few immigrants. Shorter line, shorter wait!

I work in HR and I’m pretty sure your husband can start without his Social Security card. All he need to bring is his EAD and passport for the i-9 verification. Social Security card is listed on List C of acceptable documents BUT it doesn’t have to have any notes. In your husband’s case, his SS probably has a note saying “Valid for work only with DHS authorization”
Please see the attached image for your reference
That's what I thought too, but both companies were being a pain about it, I assume because they wanted to do background checks. We ended up getting the SSN card exactly one week after the EAD card. On the day before it came, we waited 2 hours at the SS office for them just to tell us it's coming in the mail and they couldn't even tell us the number until then. At least my husband can FINALLY start work this week. What a long 6 months it has been.

Hey guys, my husband got his EAD card on Friday. He checked the box on the form to get a SSN with the EAD, and we were expecting to have it in the mail by now. How long should we wait before going to the SS office? He has two job offers but can't start without the card. 🤬

Definitely go job hunting! It takes atleast a month or two to actually hear from employers..
My husband has had 3 interviews but couldn't accept any of the job offers because of lack of EAD. Ugh. Still waiting. No end in sight.

We filed from Maine but later changed our address to Washington state. Still waiting... haven't heard anything since the biometrics appointment. We called to request expedite the EAD based on financial need and got an email 10 days ago that said, "We received your request to expedite the decision on your application. Your case is currently under review. You will receive a decision or notice of further action shortly." We haven't heard anything or received anything in the mail. Any advice? I just lost my job and we're going a little insane over here!!

@Jaquelly I went to my lawyer office we sat down and talked about this she is very confident that this is a small offense it should not hurt my immigration process, but still I want to know if anybody had the same charge before and got their Green Card approved and their citizenship also ..
Honestly I'd get a second opinion. We are living in the era of "zero tolerance." Sorry you're going though this.

As someone who has gone through the K-1 process, I can say for sure that you really can't provide too much evidence. We provided 50+ pages of photos *along with the story of our relationship accompanying the photos.* The last part is important because I've seen people get RFEs for not explaining how they met, etc.

Unfortunately, this is the lastest. Just published officially on July. We have to wait another three months to see April - June.
Interesting. Thanks!

Hello! Has anyone changed the address? I changed for my AOS, EAD and AP within on application online, and have received the confirmation receipt only for AOS. I called USCIS today, the representative told me that I need to wait for 30 days after changing, and call them in case I don't get. I assume I should have received the address change confirmation letters (EAD, AP, AOS) one at the same time. What do you think? Should I submit separate application for EAD and AP additionally? Or should I wait for 30 days. Actually, I am a bit doubtful about any responses from USCIS. And yeah, no updates after biometric appointment (June 13), and it's getting unbearable!!!
Yes I changed my address and it majorly screwed me. There's a really easy to miss box in the address change form that you have to check. I think my *mailing* address never changed and that's why I kept receiving notices at my old address. Then USPS was taking a month to forward everything. If you're not sure if you checked that box, my suggestion is to submit the change of address request again and make sure to check the box under the mailing address section. The user experience is insanely misleading and confusing. I'm sorry you're also going through this. Unfortunately the phone support people won't do anything to help when it comes to address changes...

Personally, I don't mind that much the wait for the green card. That depends on the local office. But the EAD/AP are all processed at NBC, and almost 6 months of waiting, instead of 3 months, is just ridiculous. Not all of us can get a job offer to expedite the process. Why the delay?
I guess I am just venting out. It's hard to sit around when you're used to have a daily job.
Exactly. We don't care about the green card. We just want the work permit so we can have a decent standard of living and afford both of us to go to school. The unemployment rate in my area is super low; everyone is hiring. My husband just wants to contribute to the economy.

My husband finally did his biometrics this week (long story) and his AOS case status changed to "ready to be scheduled for an interview" after two days. EAD still says "case received." We are in Seattle.

Did you also setup mail forwarding straight away or only after the missed biometrics?
When I had to move a lot and had a pending application, I really liked having a PO box as my mailing address. Whenever I moved I updated my physical address and left my PO box as it was. When I finally had my interview the officer told me she still had the very first physical address in the system although I had meticulously kept it up to date on uscis.gov.
Yes mail forwarding was set up weeks before we moved
A PO box is a GREAT solution.

I hope that's true. My husband is from a Muslim majority country. He is brown. Not everyone is treated the same way at the border. We know people who have been detained for no logical reason, despite being legal. So I found that the response was uncalled for.

My husband filed for adjustment of status and a work permit after marrying/entering on the K-1 visa in May. We moved and changed our address with USCIS in early June, and we've had trouble receiving notices from USCIS ever since. We have USPS informed delivery, so in mid-June, we saw that the biometrics appointment was sent to our old address, but it didn't come to our new address until *one month* later. When we received it, the biometrics appointment date had already passed. The same happened with our NOA1. We thought, okay, this is just a temporary glitch since this was sent out around the same time we changed our address. But just today we received another informed delivery from USPS. It was sent in July from USCIS to our OLD address once again, and then forwarded by USPS. Every time we call USCIS, we confirm with them that they have our new address. We are lucky that we're at least receiving the updates, but I just wanted to let everyone know the issues that USCIS apparently has with their address change system.

Has has no legal status after his I-94 expired. He has a period of authorized stay from the Attorney General while his I-485 is pending. This is evidenced via the I-485's receipt notice (NOA1). If you an EAD or AP, having that on hand can help as well.
This is a perfect explanation. Thanks kind stranger for putting it into words.

Hello sir, sorry you seem to be having a bad day. But if you're not going to be kind, why be here? I have every right to feel what I feel. Invalidating my feelings and speaking in a condescending manner is not productive or helpful.

He is in authorized stay since he has applied for AOS and received the NOA1 hardcopy. Bring the hardcopy and his passport if you're worried, but I don't believe there should be any problems for him as long as you stay (well) within the borders.
Good idea re: NOA1. I know we shouldn't have anything to be afraid of, but we're living in a crazy time. Thanks.

My husband and I are going to be traveling domestically in the next few months. We'll be within 100 miles of the border at some points. Border patrol is doing random checks in one of the areas. Does anyone know, what is the best way to explain to the border patrol that my husband is legal? He is on a K-1 visa, but it has a slash through it from when he entered. We are married and waiting for the green card. But he technically doesn't have any kind of formal "status." I'm worried about encountering an untrained officer or my husband being detained. It's a scary time to not be a "citizen" or "resident." If he's neither, what is he really, in the eyes of the federal government?
