Anyways, if they can scan using numbers that means you could use the number you have and insert it onto the case tracker page of the uscis site. 

Basically scanners do that too, all they do is start of a specific case number and then +1 that number to get a new number and repeat. (My best guess from what i saw other apps do, feel free to correct me on this)

So, just take your number and go to the case tracker for case specific result.

K-3 is not regularly issued anymore and a CR-1/IR-1 is.

A K-3 is like a K-1 for those who are married, and takes a couple less months to obtain compared to a CR-1/IR-1. But, the petition only extremely rarely makes it through the process to the embassy to even apply for the K-3. NVC normally administratively closes the I-129F by policy.
