My question is: We don’t have this letter yet (haven’t scheduled her visa interview yet) but we have the case number. If we have the case number,  is she still able to attend the medical exam without this letter?

Case number will be sufficient. We passed our medical before NVC scheduled us an interview date and no one in the medical unit seemed to care.

  2. Attended the interview today and got the visa approval. Yay! So glad this road is almost over.

The interview went quickly and smoothly, I answered about 5 questions on my job duties and my employer, and my wife was asked when we got married. In total we spent under 2 hours in the embassy, waiting in lines most of this time.

Wish you guys get your interviews soon and they go as swiftly as mine was.

So, I got my Case # and Invoice ID, payed the IV fees. Now I'm waiting for it to clear. Do I need to submit DS-260 before I send the package (non-pivot) with all the documents or can I send it as soon as the payment clears?

The order doesn't really matter; NVC will scan your documents when they arrive, but they won't review them until your DS-260 is not submitted.

That's what I thought but we'll see how it goes in the coming months. Helsinki should schedule in a relative short time frame. I wonder, though, because my case status shows still "At NVC", is that likely to change to something indicating transfer?

My location changed to "In transit" once my interview was scheduled, and now it says "Kyiv".

I'm still waiting to get a case number (8th week is next week), do you think they will still assign me a case number and collect all the documents then stop at the interview phase?

No idea on that. The travel.state.gov website says that "NVC will notify you when your case becomes current or is likely to become current within a year, and will ask you to begin next steps in processing your approved petition." – so I'd say they will issue the case number, as the dates should become current very soon. But I think it's better to ask NVC directly.

  6. Most likely they won't schedule any interviews for September. But the dates should return to current in October bulletin.

There's still a slim chance of getting over the line in August in a small non-busy embassy but I wouldn't bet on that. Most likely next interviews will be scheduled in September to October, after the next visa bulletin comes out.

I just worried about information which I wrote there at ds 160. Because I used ukrainian mentality when I did it ))).

I am Ukrainian too but I never lied in forms. Using mendacity as a definitive trait of our "Ukrainian mentality" saddens me tremendously and makes me feel ashamed—just by association. Really, we are better than that as a people, or at least we should strive to get better than that.

    Sorry, rant over.

  8. If you still have your DS-160 confirmation number somewhere in your mailbox, you may access it at CEAC website to make sure you did not provide any inaccurate information, and that whatever you stated then matches whatever you stated now in your DS-260. It is always good to have consistent data, as any mismatch will likely require explanations—and you do not want to admit you misrepresented a material fact in any of your visa applications.

As to explain why the visa was denied, our attorney's advice was simple: say it was "denied under INA section 214(b)" as this is the actual reason stated to you by the consular officer. (I presume your denial was the typical one, not something more serious.)

Abies, is this fee the same for everybody? I mean for every country pivot and non pivot cases? You should pay 220$ after the interview?

The GC fee is required for immigrant visas; K-3 is non-immigrant and your spouse will not receive green card upon arrival. Instead, you will file (and pay for) the Adjustment of Status form I-485 that costs $1,225. I presume this fee covers the issuance of GC as well.

Oh thank you so much! You were so helpful! I've just done everything!😃 And what about the visa or consular fees? Do we have to pay any before the interview? I contacted a call center today...Two different guys told me the different information😅 Thank you again!

Here is the list of all fees for K visas: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-spouse-k-3.html#10

    Quote

Fees are charged for the following services:

    • Filing a Petition for Alien Relative, Form I-130
    • Filing an Alien Fiancé(e) Petition, Form I-129F
    • Nonimmigrant visa application processing fee, Form DS-160 (required for each K visa applicant)
    • Medical examination (required for each K visa applicant; costs vary from post to post)
    • Other costs may include translation and photocopying charges, fees for getting the documents required for the visa application (such as passport, police certificates, birth certificates, etc.), and travel expenses to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for an interview. Costs vary from country to country and case to case.
    • Filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status

I presume you have already paid for the first three items, as you already completed the NVC stage and are waiting for the interview.

Medical exam should be paid for at the clinic that conducts it; be aware that IOM centers in Ukraine accept only UAH cash. This also must be done before the interview. Form I-485 is paid for after your spouse enters the US, not at the consulate. Looks like you are all set.

And where do you register your delivery address? I still don't know how to do it...

    http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ua/index.html?firstTime=No

Create an account, then log into it, then go to New Application / Schedule Appointment, and in the form that appears choose "IV passport delivery registration(applicants scheduled for interview by NVC\KCC)"

    Like this:

    ustd.png.0761d0554ed1e0b138ce3ce01acf3d03.png

Then enter your visa type and personal details, and choose where & how you want the passport to be delivered. The options are (a) you pick up the passport in the office of TMM courier service, or (b) their courier delivers the passport to your address of choice.

  12. You can get a Russian police report from their consulate, it did cost me about $50 in Kharkiv this February. Took about 10 days to issue and there were no lines whatsoever. I called the consulate for a next-day appointment, walked in, wrote the request and paid 1345₴ for the certificate.

Ukrainian certificate can be obtained for 3 days for $6 (150₴).

cc 7/18, think im getting august interview? and can you ask to have it rescheduled earlier in august (just wondering)?

    Sweden Stockholm embassy

Theoretically, you can. Just be sure to confirm with the embassy that they have received your file from NVC first—otherwise the officer will not be able to interview you on the scheduled date.

Also check the available dates for a medical exam.

I think it's fairly predictable which countries will have low or high numbers of US immigrants. Nordic people don't seem to have the need or desire to move because of the systems that provide equality, well-being and safety in their own countries. Even so, our countries are not perfect just like the US isn't. I have my reasons for moving to the US, and we'll see how it goes (I haven't even visited in 8 years!) ^_^

Absolutely agree. Europe in general yields very low amount of EB immigrants, mostly because there are tons of employment options on the continent even for people from poorer countries like Ukraine. And those few who decide to go through US immigration pains instead must have very compelling reasons to do so.

Hope it works out well for all of us. But if not, good ol' Europe will always be there hehe.

I just looked up statistics on the DoS website and there were a total of 84 immigrant visas issued in Helsinki in the fiscal year of 2017, of these 11 were in the employment preference category.

Out of curiosity, I checked Ukrainian numbers and our embassy is waaaaay busier. There were 4780 immigrant visas issued (second highest in Europe, only Albania had more), but only 70 of these were employment based. I am a rare beast B-)
