    Thank you for the info.

Well I'm from Egypt. I don't know much about the packet 3 steps.

You are welcome. Now that you are this far in the process I would advise browsing through the Egypt portal here because there are a lot of topics that might help you further with the process: http://www.visajourney.com/portals/index.php?country=Egypt&tpage=1&ppage=5&forum=80

Also you should get the instructions for Packet 3 from your embassy when you email them after your case arrives there and is ready.

It's been 28 days since we got our NOA2. We called the NVC yesterday and they gave us the case number. They also told us that the petition didn't go to the consulate in my country yet.

My question is what can I do with the case number now while waiting for the arrival of the petition ? Can I proceed with the DS-160 application or Should I wait till I get contacted by the consulate in my country.

    Thank you.

You should use the case number here to track your case (visa type should always be set to immigrant ): https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=NIV

It should change to "In Transit" when it's on the way to your embassy and then to "Ready" when your consulate has received it and you're allowed to schedule your interview. your profile isn't set up so I'm unsure of what country you're from but you will probably need to email your consulate and request packet 3 when your case status is set to "Ready". You can FILL OUT the DS-160 but do not electronically sign or submit the application until your case status is at least set to "Ready" just to be safe.

  3. IMO you're going to need to need a lawyer for such a case. Deportation due to drug trafficking/sales and such as stated before aren't really pardonable offenses depending on the scale of the offense.

Look what criteria you fall in here (to get started): https://www.uscis.gov/family/family-us-citizens/bringing-parents-live-united-states-permanent-residents

As for the drug charge, you would need someone to go over his case records legally to see in depth what was the actual offense, charges, bans, etc which is where you would probably need a lawyer.

Thank you AnaUmo, you have put me at ease a bit. My NOA2 date was May 17th. when I spoke with a tier 2 rep, he told me that the case is undergoing background check which made absolutely no sense to me. I have already called nvc and they do not have my case but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you.

As long as you have received the NOA2 I would suggest that you communicate only with NVC. USCIS has done their part and now it's up to the NVC. Unfortunately, the information provided by the call center eps aren't always accurate but going forward on Monday I would advise that you keep following up with NVC about your case. There was a recent US holiday so that might be why your case is not at the NVC yet. It took me exactly 2 weeks(no holidays so I got lucky) for my case to arrive at the NVC and an additional day to get my case assigned a case number. I think NVC is taking an average of 2-4 weeks at the moment so you shouldn't be worried if it is not there yet. Just don't give the USCIS a reason to pull your case back to them and it should be fine (can cause additional weeks of delay). Also last time I checked NVC advises that their processing can take up to 6 weeks (standard) which is uncommon but not impossible so again don't stress

After waiting for over 6 months and finally receiving an approval letter in the mail, I received an email from uscis that my case is still being reviewed. I called them and I was given the same information that it is currently under review. What does this mean? Has anyone had this happened to them before? Please respond. Thank you.

If you received your NOA2 in the mail then it's almost certain that your case is on it's way to the NVC. When is your case's approval date (based on what's printed on the NOA2)? After about 2 or so weeks from the approval date on the letter you should keep following up with the NVC about your case arriving and getting your case number. I wouldn't worry about the email because my case was recently approved and my visa is now in my hand but I've received about 2-3 emails stating that my case is still being reviewed and that there are no updates at this time.

What if you can’t find your immunization records to bring with you to do your medical.

If you cannot find your immunization records but you can go back to the clinic you originally got registered at for immunization at birth, you can ask them for a copy. If they do not have a copy then try contacting the Ministry of Health location in your parish and enquiry there. Most likely you will be told that you will need to receive all vaccinations that are applicable to you (age based, chicken pox if you never caught it before, etc). I can tell you though that in Jamaica, it will definitely be expensive since the vaccine prices range from $1500 - $12000 depending on where you get them. If you cannot get the immunization card you should ensure that you get the shots done before you have anything such as a medical exam as the only place allowed to complete the exam in Jamaica is the St. Andrews Memorial Hospital and it is much more expensive there. Good luck!

Anyone here been approved at the interview and now it's in AP? My fiance did her interview April 30th and was approved. The status has been AP ever since. There was a delay with her medical. Although she did it April 16th it was not sent to the embassy until May 14th. The consular officer didn't receive it until May 18th. When I emailed the embassy they responded the case is under administrative processing and cannot give me an estimate of when a decision will be made. My fiance and I thought after the interview everything was good but now it's another wait...after we waited 9months for our NOA2. This is really disappointing.

I have no real experience with this but I am figuring by how Jamaican processes are usually slow that since it was received May 18th, it was placed at the bottom of the queue for someone and the additional checks done during AP will possible take a while. I'm sorry about the extended wait but just don't let up on your communication with the embassy as it might end up falling through the cracks

What is the "Along with the letter or email you received from the consular Section" mean?

Sorry I'm being a pain, but I really appreciate all of your help and insight.

Yes, this is your interview appointment letter.

They're advising that you bring the confirmation letter that has the summary of your DS-160.

Sorry, here's the link for the list of instructions, the PDF was too big lol U.S. Embassy Kingston

Yes, I'm familiar with this PDF. It is as I pointed out before the email you received after scheduling your interview is your appointment letter because now you set your own appointment. If your fiance is still worried and needs peace of mind you can contact the hospital for confirmation ^_^ (I did the same at the time to ensure I didn't mess up).

Thanks, I know we were hardheaded. I think I'm going to try to explain to the officer about the time conflicts in my schedule to be able to attend the interview with way and hope they give us some type of leeway but at this point its either now or never :/.

You can explain it to the CO if you're asked but I don't think they will give you a hard time since they'll receive confirmation that you have done the medical already but it is not ready. Every CO is different but those that I met that day were not unreasonable so as long as you can provide an explanation that you wanted to be present for support then it fingers crossed it will be ok with the CO.

We never received an interview letter form the US consulate, that's the one he's worried about. From reviewing other posts on here, peopled indicated that the interview letter would be in this "packet 3" instructions list. So far we have all of the documents indicated in this list in the attachment I've provided. I went online and registered the appointment and the email we received from that website when I paid the visa fee. It confirms the visa fee was paid and the date of the interview. I was thinking that this would be proof as the interview letter, but it sounds like I did something wrong? Should I be emailing the embassy for an appointment letter instead of the "packet 3 instructions?"

That's outdated  People received an interview letter because they didn't setup their interviews online at that time. Now that you are using the online system you have to print the page after you pay for and set up your interview date. If you're worried about it still though then feel free to email the embassy though. Your interview letter is that same email you received as confirmation that you paid the fee so no worries you're correct

    Hey Ana, Good Morning!

We heard back from Andrew's Memorial yesterday and the medical exam is scheduled for May 31. So it means the embassy probably won't receive his medical exam by the time of the interview 😩 and we indicated in the medical exam inquiry that he lives in Hanover smh. Now that we have the confirmation for it, my fiancé is worried about going all the way to Kingston and them turning him around because he won't have the "packet 3 instructions" that they're asking for in the list of documents he's bringing and when we go to the interview. I emailed the embassy again last night in hopes that they will email us the instructions, but I'm wondering if it even matters at this point. I would hate for the drive to Kingston to be a waste,  but I also feel like we won't know if it works until he tries. Did they have any issues with you bringing just the print out of the confirmation email you received when you booked your interview appointment?

Btw where are you seeing that you're being asked for "packet 3" instructions for the interview? This can easily be misunderstood. They mean he needs to bring the items listed for packet 3 which we outlined earlier and for his medical exam there's a list of items he should bring which should have been send via email as his exam confirmation email:

    • Completed medical history form (this should be attached to the confirmation email) - [Mine not attached but I was able to complete the document at the hospital]
    • Embassy appointment letter - [Print the details of the appointment for the interview at the embassy]
    • Passport
    • Four identical passport-sized photographs
    • Intended address in the USA
    • All medications or prescriptions being used
    • Medical reports for any major/chronic illnesses
    • Immunization or vaccine records
    • Medical fee (as stated on the US medical website)
    • Additional funds for vaccines or other any tests requested by the doctor ($20,000- $35,000 JMD
    per person)
    • Eyeglasses (if applicable)
    • Women should also bring the dates of birth of all their biological children

May 31? Hmmmm I hate to say I told you so but it's ok! That is mostly likely not going to be enough time for the medical to get to the embassy but fingers crossed plus  at the end of the interview they will not deny your visa for it. If his medical is not there yet but he is approved he will be told that he has been approved but they are still awaiting his medical exam results from the hospital and once they receive it they'll finish processing his visa but until then he will be in AP. Tell him that I promise that he can stop worrying about receiving "packet 3". As long as the status on the website says "Ready" you guys are in the clear. I never received a response from the embassy with the instructions. What he needs to do is print his confirmation letter and his interview appointment letter. The person at the front desk for the US medical exam area will check the appointment letter and ask you to fill out the medical exam form. It's a painless process and they won't turn you back as long you already paid for your interview and you showed them proof :).

Wow, thank you for this whole run down! How do we know if it's up to date? Would it show like a series of shots for it? I've gotten these same shots as a baby and then again in grade school and again before I went to college here in the US, but I don't know how it works lol

On his immunization card you will see the dates of when he received the shots. Mine weren't up to date (Thanks a lot family <_<) so when I went to the doctor and showed him the card he gave me a run down of what I needed to get. I would advise just doing a simple doctor visit and having them go over his immunization for the ones he's not sure of. He can visit a local clinic if he wants to as well. It will show a series of shots and booster shots. Also, he has to get the exact shot that's specified. My doctor didn't have anymore DTP shots so he suggested substituting it with the DTap shot but when I did my medical they were very strict about the vaccines so I had to pay them for the DTP shot. Also after his medical he's going to get a sheet of paper that will like a new immunization card because once he leaves Jamaica he will need that as proof of his immunization shots instead of the little card you would get as a baby in Jamaica. He must keep that safe and secured and take it with him when he leaves the country.

  15. 4 minutes ago, JDK2018 said:

Thank you :D! He got his immunization card from his mom a while back  when we first started getting things on that list on the DOS website, so we should be all set there. I'll double check with him to make sure, better safe than sorry!

Ok, just go over his immunization card with him to ensure that he's up-to-date with all of these vaccines or he will need to get them before his medical. If he waits til his medical it will be much more expensive there:

    • Mumps
    • Measles
    • Rubella
    • Polio
    • Tetanus
    • Diphtheria
    • Pertussis
    • Influenza Type B
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox)
    • Pneumococcal [My doctor had stated that this was not needed based on my age. I think it is needed for those over the age of 65]
    • Influenza

Thank you for this! Sadly, I've already booked my flight and wouldn't have been able to take off from work for another 4-5 weeks if I didn't book for the first full week of June, so if they give him a date that's too close to the actual interview, I'll have to live with it having to being processed a little longer. I don't want to have to wait for AP to be completed, but I think as long as this interview gets done, I'll be completely satisfied, I just miss him so much and it sucks to have keep hurrying up and waiting :(. He will be traveling from Hanover so I'll let him know to tell them. I think today is a Labor Day in JA so I don't expect to hear from them until Monday or even Tuesday since Monday is a US holiday. I'll email a list of our case and receipt numbers so that he can print them out and take them with him.

You should hear from them by at least Friday. Monday's US holiday won't affect the hospital (luckily). It will work out ^_^. What about his immunization card?

Hi Ana, I had some more questions lol, did you bring the confirmation page from when you paid the visa fee online, to your interview and to your medical exam? Or did you get another kind of official letter from the embassy with the appointment date on it? For the medical exam, do they give you the option to select the date to come in or will they give you a date based on the date of your interview? We scheduled his interview  for 11 days out (June 7, 2018), but once we submitted the medial appt form, it didn't give us any information on what we should expect when they respond to us in 2 business days.

When you go to the medical you should bring a copy of your appointment date for the embassy interview as well as your confirmation page for the DS-160. I honestly cannot remember which he took but I'm almost certain it was the appointment letter you get via email for the embassy interview. There will also be fields on the medical exam sheet for you to fill out that will require your case number and (IDR TBH) the petition number (I-129F). The hospital does not allow you  to choose your date. They will reply via email within 1-2 business days with a date for you to come in. It's first come first served so try to have your fiance get there as early as he can. If he is from the eastern parishes (Westmoreland, Hanover, Montego Bay, etc) when he goes in and speaks with the person at the US medical front desk  he should advise them of that. I think they give you can earlier number based on how far you're traveling from.

I think you should to change that interview date just to be really safe (it's not a must) but he's probably going to get a date for next week and that might not be enough time for his medical to get to the embassy. The week of the 18th should be better. Also, have you asked him to get his immunization card ready and go over all the vaccinations he has received prior?

Hi I am from jamaica... I have gotten married and am waiting on my stuff to be sorted out I wanted to know what exactly is done in the medical do they test u for marijuana .. would really appreciate some sensible answers as I really want to know what to do .. thank you

You will be asked if you have ever done drugs and if you have a history of substance abuse several times (ie: on the medical form you fill out, your physical with the doctor, etc). I cannot say for sure if they test specifically for drugs but for the medical exam the following is done:

    1. Fill out the medical information sheet
    2. Blood pressure, eye sight, weight and height check
    3. Blood and urine samples are taken (both can be used to find traces of drugs including marijuana if they have been in your system for a certain amount of time)
    4. X-Ray
    5. Physical exam including a full body inspection and the doctor will make a note of any special body markings such as tattoos, piercings, notable scars, etc
    6. Vaccinations if there are any outstanding that is not in accordance with the US vaccination requirements

I cannot tell you what to do but based on several posts I can confirm that if you do admit to marijuana usage or have been found have used said substance it will result in a temporary one year ban.
