I would visit Ja...But look the cost of flight! Why not visit there country again, but go somewhere different. A "STAYCATION".

That's true!  For me the USC the flights aren't sooo bad, but for him it seems like every flight is 24 hours and like $2,000 hahaha.  Even going to Dubai or East Africa isn't as bad.  I think we'll try to remain patient and wait for this K1 drama to be over so we can both be stateside!

Hi, everyone my husband case is a i130  petition. It's at Ghana as of March 29, 2018. They sent me and him his package through email April 10, 2018. Now he waiting for his interview which no appointments available.

Wow - sorry to hear this.  I'm not sure how the process for i130 works but it seems the embassy is backed up in general.  Do you need to schedule your appointments on your own, or does the embassy schedule for you?  It's been almost 2 weeks for us, we've been checking every day for interview appointments for K1 and nothing yet.  Hoping for some movement soon!

I know so close seems so far I'm literally getting more and more anxious, and the interview day omg  I'm going to be a wreck at work.

Aww!  It'll be mostly waiting, I'm sure.  With the time difference, maybe he'll be all approved by the time you have to start work - wishful thinking!

I'm trying SO HARD to be patient and not freak out as we just keep waiting for interview slots to open up ...:(

Medical exam scheduled for April 20th. It was like pulling teeth I wish i could be there to help my poor fiance. His medical is in the neighboring country as will be his interview. So the receptionist tried to tell him to call back when he is in the country LIKE NOOO!! WE NEED AN APPOINTMENT NOWWW!! WE HAVE WAITED 7 MONTHS FOR THIS. But my fiance isn't like me and he hung up and accepted it I made him call back and be assertive now we have an appointment :D:dance:

Awesome! You guys are nearly there!!!

  5. Hi @SamwiseG,  thanks very much for sharing your experiences. Many GH couples are stuck waiting for this Packet 3 or email from the embassy that seems to never come. My concern is if we find ourselves in a situation like yours where the appointment is offered on such short notice. If you hadn’t scheduled that January appointment, would you have been able to get the medical done? I thought you needed to show them your appointment date at the medical center.

    Thanks and congratulations.

Hopefully you get it soon! Does it come email or mail? I'm surprised there's no interviews available. I'm still waiting for NVC to send ours off. Hopefully next week :)

Hope so too! Some couples got it by email within 1-2 months, and one couple has been waiting four months 😒.  I’m just hoping for the best - I’ll give it 4-6 weeks before I start harassing the embassy.   Apparently they release interview dates in batches, and we just have to wait. As they say, TIA (this is Africa)!

  7. Happy Friday everyone! We are still hangin’ in there - the NVC sent our case to Ghana on April 3.  Now we’re in limbo - waiting to receive “Packet 3” from the embassy (which never comes for some couples 😫) and also waiting for appointments to open up online (currently no interview appointments available!). I’ll admit I was on the verge of tears after learning that there were no appointments available, but I’m working through it,  and we’ll keep checking 🙂.  Have a good weekend, all!

    Hello,

Yes, we were able to schedule a new interview. I didn't hear back from the traveldocs website about re-using our existing GT Bank fee (since he was turned away at the first interview) until after we paid a new fee, and then when they did reply their response was just basically, "Hey, we see you scheduled a new interview," so there was no real resolution of whether or not they would have allowed us to reschedule using the same fee. Since another person posted they were told a new fee was required (they didn't specify who told them this, but I assume it was the U.S. Embassy) I just figured we might as well do the same thing so we could reschedule as quickly as possible. The only date available when I did schedule was in early May, and I scheduled it a couple of weeks ago, so I have no idea what the nearest date is to schedule one now.

I wish you guys the very best of luck too. I hope you get the Package 3 email very soon. Keep an eye on the petitioner's email account as that's where it is sent.

After the long wait we will have our answer soon, but I am sure they will clearly see the real and life-long love we have for each other and approve him coming to me. That will be the happiest day in my life.

    Wallace

Okay! I’m the petitioner so I’ll keep an eye out. At least you got a date that wasn’t tooooo far out. Just hoping that whenever we schedule, the available dates will allow enough time for medical. We’ll keep checking!

Hmmmm... we have received our receipt from nvc and our case has been ready for almost 4 months now without any mail from the embassy. I have emailed them for several times but they don’t respond.

Four months! Wow. Have you started the DS160 or will you wait? When you get a chance, please fill out your timeline - it’s helpfuk to others and especially those going for Ghana to share info. @success, please fill your timeline as well when you get a chance, thanks!

Oh and we have a Ghana K1 WhatsApp chat going - if you would like to join, message me your number and I can add you.

    Have a a nice weekend!

Hi Success! I love your screen name. That shows positivity and I love it.

Keep in mind the "Packet 3" is simply an email that is sent to the petitioner. Our package went from the NVC to the embassy in late February and we just received our Package 3 email in late March, so for us it was about one month. I would not expect there to be a consistent time frame, though, because these things are uncertain and change regularly. There are many factors that go into the time frame for things to happen.

I would not take either action (Complete DS-160 or pay GT Bank fee) until you can see on the CEAC website that your case is in READY status. Once that is true I think you are safe to do those two things, but DO NOT schedule your interview until your petitioner receives the Package 3 email. I would even say at this time it is OK for the fiance to complete the medical exam and obtain the police report (if not already done) once the CEAC shows the case in READY status.

I sent an email request from with the traveldocs website two days ago asking if we can use the original bank fee since my fiance was turned away at his interview. That's the website where you actually schedule the interview. The website says they will answer within 1-2 business days, but it's nearing the end of the second day and I have not heard back, so today I sent my fiance enough money to pay a new GT Bank fee and receive a new invoice number to reschedule his interview. As you've probably seen, another visajourney member was in the same position and was told they must pay another fee, so I'm just proceeding because we want to reschedule the interview as soon as possible.

Just FYI - I'm attaching the document we received as part of the Package 3.

I hope this helps. Please keep us updated on your progress. I wish you two all the success in the world!

Hey Wallace, hoping all keeps moving forward for you - we are praying for patience for us!  Wanted to know if you were able to reschedule your interview yet? We haven’t received packet 3 yet, but we did DS160 so when we went to check, there were no appointments available as of now. Hope you don’t have any trouble with yours!

Hey in March my husband I stayed in Dubai for one night and we stayed in Singapore for the remaining of our trip . In Dubai my husband received a transit visa at the Dubai airport . No visa is needed for Singapore and we had an amazing time

That’s cool - now that this K1 process seems to be taking longer than we expected, it might be nice to sneak in another trip before he gets to the US. I can fly direct to Singapore so that’s not bad. Once you got there, was it expensive?  I see we can also go to Jamaica or Barbados without a visa also 🤔

I'll keep you updated! Checking the Canadian forum may also help ya :)  There was someone else last month who was fortunate to find some dates a month out in April, so maybe we'll have the same luck.

And you're supposed to wait until they send it to you.. But I've heard of others who send the Packet 3 without ever getting it from the embassy. Some get accepted, others get turned away to wait longer, there's no telling :( we actually did just this and we're waiting on a response. I'll keep the forms updated and let everyone know how we constructed our email if they accept it

Same issue here! I’ve seen mixed results where some couples schedule the interview without packet 3, then get turned away, but also one couple recently had no issues even though they never received the packet at all.  I think based on the interview dats available we’re just gonna go for it and hope for the best. The packet from Ghana is generic information that another couple was generous enough to share.

  13. Wow, this is a really insightful post.  We are (hopefully) about 3 months away from living together and as the USC I'm trying to wrap my head around sharing my living space (and resources) for the first time while also being supportive and mindful of my hubby who will be totally out of his element.  Thankfully we are in a pretty decent sized town, and the apartment is walking distance to shops and a gym and whatnot.

The other thing is for the USC, after a long day of work, we will come home to someone who is ready to go out or have fun when we may just want to veg out for the rest of the evening ;). It'll be a fun adjustment period, haha!  Extra understanding is needed on both sides.
