    Hi guys,

I just received an email update from the USCIS online case status stating:

There has been a recent processing action taken on your case.

    Receipt Number: MSCXXXXXXXX

Application Type: I130, PETITION FOR ALIEN RELATIVE

    Your Case Status: Initial Review

On Jan 4th, the Post Office returned a notice we sent you for your Form I130, PETITION FOR ALIEN RELATIVE, Receipt Number MSCXXXXXXXX, because they could not deliver it. This could have a serious effect on your case. Please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice immediately. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators. If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or photographs taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule. Occasionally, you may receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints taken when you have filed a form other than those listed above. In these situations, you may receive your appointment notice more than 30 days after submitting your application or petition.

    • Log-in to your myUSCIS account to view your case history and understand what you can expect to happen next on your case.
    • Current processing times can be found on the USCIS website at under Check Processing Times.

This is a bit odd as my case has already been approved a month ago (both I-130 and I-485). I also have received my green card. What could this be for? I wonder if this could be for an approval notice? I thought I had already received the approval notice a month ago, but maybe that was for I-485 only? I'm currently traveling overseas therefore I am not able to check. Has anyone encountered this? I'm not sure what that notice was for....

What was the outcome. I receive the same thing!

Think you better call uscis and check what address they have on file for you.. Have you moved??

Yes. My husband moved and we updated them with the new address. I said they probably had already sent the mail to us before we could have sent them the new address. Do you know if people get notice in the mail when they change address? It probably can be that.

What a useless update from Nebraska.

I was excited because they were finally approving some February filers, but apparently, they reverted to being their usual, useless selves.

I'll be hitting 9 months in a week. Some people have been waiting for 11 or longer, an according to USCIS  ''it takes 12 months for approval''

Right. Other centers take 6-7 months, but because they can't divide their workload, or they just don't care, we wait a year. Seems super fair.

I think Nebraska center needs to be exposed publicly. I'm talking about channel 7 and 10 news. I think we need to get HELP ME HOWARD involved in all. Lol. But seriously, that's the only way they will speed things up and share their work load

The only thing I can do is sit and wait for my husband to get the letter and we will know what to do from there.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. I mean a 2 year old, and you saw your husband 2 years ago? Do you have a lawyer? If so, he should have been doing all the follow ups and not letting it get this far!

sort of an update, but not really:

My husband called today, and he was told that ''they only update the website once a month, that's why it seems like they're not making progress''

Really? REALLY? Are they going to insult our intelligence, considering I've been waiting almost 8 months and a lot of you have been waiting for 10 or even more? How does the fact that they only update the processing time chart once a month justifies the fact that they are taking literally twice as long?

he hopes that the congressman letter will help, but I'm preparing some additional letters and e-mails to send. I know it might not do anything, but sitting around and waiting is somehow worse.

I agree we can't just sit and do nothing when other service centers are approving in 5 and 6  months. I'm only at 4 months and I will be sending in letters about Nebraska because I want to be approve by 6 months at least. My husband will be sending in letters to a lot of them in the position that can help.

So I got some good needs today! When they got my case they spell my name incorrectly so my husband called and they said until someone takes the case the name will be updated, so today finally got the email saying I have the name corrected and my case now says is
¨Your Case Status: Initial Review ¨ I am really really Happy This Morning! Thank God!

Happy for you. What number did you call. They have my date of birth wrong. Do you think we should report it now or wait.

I'll join in and contact as many people as possible. Maybe we can add the e-mails we find in here, encourage other Nebraska filers from November to March to do the same. it might not do anything, but we sure as hell are not going to keep sitting down without doing anything!

@acidrain I've been thinking the same, how worrisome it is that they just keep increasing the waiting time over other centers without addressing it, without transferring cases or hiring new people, as it is just normal to them to assume we will wait 4-5 months extra compared to other centers, without saying a word. First I hoped they were working on the backlog from November, but that would mean that they should've  picked up some speed by now, but no.

Also, why would they decide to approve a March case when pressured by a congressman, over all the cases still pending since friggin November (not saying they didn't deserve the approval,  I'm glad contacting congress worked for them,  just stating how random that is) we all paid the same fees and send the same paperwork, we understand the concept of waiting for our turn and I respect it, but when we see how we are being left behind and Potomac is about to start April! then it's certainly not okay.

@EDurevic My priority date is February 8th, and when we sent the e-request a few days ago they told us ''we are still in normal processing times'' yeah they don't seem normal

We certainly got the short stick of service centers.

Yes I agree, lets all get together and send in our letters. This is ridiculous.

When I google Donald Neufeld - Associate Director USCIS his email comes up as follows: Donald.W.Neufeld@uscis.dhs.gov

The more people contact USCIS and our elected officials the more prone they are going to be to fix the problem. I am in the process of contacting the Senator in my spouse's jurisdiction. Usually political offices refer your case to someone who works in their office. They make an inquiry and it doesn't really go anywhere. I do think if people make enough inquiries, Nebraska will be forced to confront the problem. If I don't hear anything back in the next few weeks from USCIS I am considering contacting the Chairman for both political parties for the Senate Judiciary Committee for Immigration and Border Security.

It's getting scary to see so many people in Nebraska reaching 10 months for an approval. I'd hate to see what another 2 months looks like if they don't do anything.

I am loving the idea. We are getting ready to send in our letter this week as well. We all have to do something. As I said not 1 or 2 people, the more letters send in the better.
