  1. My husband recently lost his job.

    He is a US Citizen.

I am currently a green card holder with conditions.

We just had a baby back in August.

Can my husband apply for and recieve food stamps without affecting my immigration?

He is supposed to start his new job at the end of January 27th, 2020.

At interview officer said he would recommend case for approval but would need to be reviewed by his supervisor. Said to expect to hear back in 2 weeks.

5 weeks later, had Infopass where the person helping us literally laughed in our faces that we would think we would have a response in 2 weeks.

4 months later had another Infopass appointment with a much nicer person who said our case had never been brought to a supervisor and it was put back in the file room instead. She hand delivered the file to the supervisor and said expect a response in 25 business days.

4 weeks later got a RFE saying our health physical form was expired (was fine at the interview) so wanted me to do a new immigration physical.

Submitted RFE response 2-3 weeks later.

Case approved 6 weeks after receiving RFE response..

I would have contacted a congressman about this. It's negligence on their part.

  3. I got out of the military back in November of 2018. My wife, who I am sponsoring, is currently without health insurance now while she is awaiting an interview to be scheduled for her I485 (AOS).

The whole healthcare market business is new to me and I didn't realize there were enrollment deadlines.

We reside in the state if Texas and are wondering if anyone knows of decent healthcare insurance my wife can qualify for to cover pregnancy and satisfy the immigration healthcare requirements?

You don't just sit and wait, you read up on every single step of the whole process including Adjustment of Status so you know everything little part.

When I was in the Navy, this was a very important thing to do so that I can have everything prepared and quadruple checked, ready to file whenever I wasn't sailing. Some are able to do the AOS quickly, but, with all of the problems with how everything is defined and how important it is to study up on every immigration law pertaining to your immigration path, it is worth it.

Not doing so leaves room for errors. Errors are even more costly. Especially since the tiniest mistake could give USCIS probable cause to deny any application no matter how authentic the relationship may be.

We're in Orange County, CA and still have no gotten an interview (nor did we get the AP/combocard - so we've been on ONE income for over a year now.. living paycheck to paycheck and not able to do much about it).

Always nice to hear we are not the only ones still waiting in the 12/2017 AOS filers.. at least I know a lot of people are in the same boat and waiting... any day now! Wishing for that Christmas miracle.

I'm sorry you've not recieved AP approval yet. I hope the best! Well, if not this Christmas, next Christmas for sure we should all have approvals lol.

Thank you for your service. What’s the latest status showing on DHS and USCIS sites for your wife’s case?

"On December 28, 2017, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number *************. Our National Benefits Center location is working on your case. We mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

That's all we have for her.

    Hello everyone!

I'm preparing everything I need for my AOS (and hope to apply by the end of the month), and I'm really confused with Form I-693. The instructions to I-485 say that it's not required but you may sbmit it if you wish. I started calling USCIS approved doctors in my area, and they all refuse to do the paperwork without a medical, which is about $200 - 300 per person, and there are 3 of us applying... I even called USCIS, and they confirmed that I don't need a new medical and they have no idea why doctors don't know about that. What did you do about your vaccination records?

If you've already completed your vaccination requirements befire entering the U.S.A. then you are not required to fill out the whole I-693 packet.

However, if you haven't completed all your required shots, as they can take a bit of time to get, then you do not jave to submit your I-693 packet with the I-485 packet. You have some time to submit it on your own time as long as it is on or before your initial interview for biometrics or just for the I-485 itself.

Just take a breather and do things one step at a time.
