Had our interview Sept. 27, 7 months exactly after we filed. We were approved. Card should come in a week or so.
congrats, that's wonderful!

after you guys' advice, i decided to finally call a Tier 2 person as they haven't even responded to my Service Request over the past month.
for some background, my application has been pending for the past 7 months, so i've been worried.
they said they've been running a background check on me since may - so for the past five months - and that maybe on oct 2, when my SR is due for an update, i may hear something.
gah. doesn't help to have a muslim name + to have changed it recently... they always check on me forever.

You can apply for AP later on after filing for AOS but you will have to pay a fee for it to be processed. While if you filed for it at the same time as AOS then you would not have to pay the AP fee.
If you receive either your 2 year then you do not need the AP at all because you have already received your green card. Once you file for ROC your NOA1 and the paperwork saying that they extended your green card for 1 year until that is processed suffices as your AP to leave the country.
that's not true. you don't have to apply right away. i decided to apply for AP half a year after i've applied for AOS as it turns out i need to go abroad for work, and i just received my receipt notice from the USCIS saying they've accepted my application (listing fees as $0) and are working on my AP.

I agree it's pretty cool and I also agree that it takes away some of the excitement. But it's certainly a nice little app to have.
I tried to get myUSPS for myself as well for weeks, then tried it with my wife a single time and it worked right away so that's how we did it. It shows mail for everyone in your household and not just for you so it doesn't matter who signs up for it.
A little negative sidenote: USCIS hasn't updated any cases at all 250 -/+ around mine in almost a week now. I wonder what's going on with that.
my conclusion based on anecdotes from the jan/feb/march threads on here is that there's a long lag between when people receive their notice in the mail and when they receive the text/online notification, but people still intermittently receive their interview notices or waiver GCs.
i'm not too worried about the app that lets you look through hundreds of MSC### at once - they're most likely still processing people at more or less the same pace as before.

This is a small victory, but after visits to 3 USPS offices, having had my USPS account locked, and getting verification questions that weren't applicable to me, I am FINALLY able to use USPS Informed Delivery to know which mail I have on the way to my house.
Now I have something else to compulsively check in addition to myUSCIS.
Yay!
Kinda sad that it removes the excitement I have checking my mailbox everyday, but it helps me cope, so this is nice.

We are not listed as occupants. And one car is in my dads name and one is in my mom's name- they do not want to change the titles. The credit cards statements are addressed to me for my card, and him for his card, nothing has both our names on it. We have no utility bills or phone or internet bills- all of these are addressed to my mom. Hy husband has no health insurance, and I am on my dad's. We do not have car insurance together. He is a driver on my dad's car and I am a driver on my mom's car. We do not have retirement accounts. And thank you- we are hunkering down during the hurricane. Hopefully won't have any major damage!
I think the easiest thing to do here is to make him an authorized user of your credit card or vice versa. Should be for free, and if you trusted him enough to marry, hopefully you can trust him with your credit score.
It'll be a good paper trail.

"When you apply for a green card (adjustment of status) in the United States, you usually need to have a medical examination. The exam must be done by a doctor who is authorized by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS designates certain doctors (also known as civil surgeons) to perform the medical exam required for most Green Card applicants. "
Taken from the offical USCIS website: https://my.uscis.gov/findadoctor
So you can not just take any doctor and all the USCIS authorized doctors are hella expensive....
I'm not sure we're on the same page here. I said you can Google cheapest civil surgeon, which is literally the type of doctor the USCIS Find-a-Doctor tool looks for. This isn't an ambiguous term. Civil surgeon = immigration doc.
Not to be confused with the surgeon general, the person who's on all booze bottles warning you not to drink and operate machinery/drive at the same time.
Near me, the cheapest is Simon Lee in the Bay Area. His office is basically a cash-only I-639 mill. But a legal, government approved one.

I saw similar prices for my region (San Diego) and would've also taken my chances and waited for the interview if I hadn't rescheduled my interview anyways... now with a new interview date that is potentially in another 5 months I think I likely will have to renew my medical.
I think USCIS should waive the second medical for K1 adjustments... it just seems odd to me that we have to already go through the hassle of having a second interview with documents gathering etc. and time schedule conflicts (no vacation around this time) and then even have to worry about spending another $300-400 again on another medical. I'm starting to think that I would've rather had a waiver and just waited a little longer for the approval
I think if you search for "cheapest civil surgeon" online or on yelp - or if you ask other immigrants in your area - they may know. I found someone here in SF Chinatown who does it for $100.

Quick question for anyone who has travelled with their EAD/AP combo card..... I'm from the UK, this is going to sound like a stupid question but I'm not going to need a tourist visa or anything like that to travel to the UK, my passport is still good for being a citizen ?
Also do I need any other documents to be able to get back into the US other than my EAD/AP combo card :)?
you definitely don't need a visa to go to the UK now.
for returning to the us, in addition to your AP card and passport, you shouldn't need anything else, but to be on the safe side, maybe pack a folder in your carry-on with all your AOS supporting docs.

Thank you. I will plan to take her to the DMV with the EAS card.
SF here. Got DL using EAD.

this is random, but in the past, whenever I renewed my DL, it was only valid for however long my legal presence document said i'm legally in the states for.
i assumed my DL would be valid for exactly as long as my EAD, which is less than a year. however, when i got my license in the mail, it's valid through my birthday in 2020. it's like i already have a (conditional) green card or something...
how long are y'alls DLs valid for, if you already got them in connection with your AOS?

I can't seem to find anyone else from the SF office on here who has any positive (or any) developments to share

Did you try calling? I dont think its going to add any favors as USCIS are still working on cases since Nov, 2016.
I didn't think it would help my case, so I haven't. I tried to put in an SR online, but the system told me that it's too early to file one..
I have my EAD already, so I'm not too concerned about the Green Card itself... yet.

how do you do that? I thought it's irreversible to sign an affidavit of support.

You know you can also just make the service request online?! Saves you some time sitting on the phone😉 They'll likely just give you the answer that it's still within normal processing times though but I guess it can never hurt to try...
when i tried it, it didn't give me the option for i-765, but only for a bunch of other categories, which is why i called.
have you successfully put in an online SR for EAD?

That is something I need to figure out too. I know for the dl or dl extension you need a copy of the approval notice or back and front of card. I expect it is the same for ssid for removal of conditions.
I hope it can mailed.
Ill keep a look out to see what you find or post something if I work it out.
What I'm doing in California is:
1. After getting new EAD, I submitted an application to have my SS card updated from my former name to my new name - I did this via the SS paper application over snail mail - this is for free.
2. My DMV says after getting my new SS card, only then can I change my DL name. I can already renew my DL for one more year with the EAD, but I'm waiting for the SS card with the new name to hit two birds with one stone.
Still waiting after two weeks for my new SS card.

How do I get that slip?
I'll go to a USPS store tomorrow.
just follow through the steps here until it either 1) works and you can remotely check your mail en-route, 2) doesn't work due to ID verification issues, and then go to a post office.
if you don't experience the problem in 2) but another sort of technical problem, I would contact USPS Technical Support to see if they can help, but I only know of people having the problem described in 2)

Doesn't work with my address...
it doesn't work for me either cause i live in an old-### apartment, so the verification questions are probably about a mish-mash of previous tenants.
i took the slip they let you print out to a physical post office and they verified my identity/enabled MyUSPS for me.
have you tried that?

21 days from paper NOA on EAD and STILL no EAD card. USCIS has no explanation as to why.
Doesn't it usually take at least 3 months?

i'm not sure where britontherun got that info (no offense), but my lawyer says Stokes Interviews (where they separate you) is if you've got huge age disparity (at least violating the half your age + 7 rule), haven't met in person before getting married, or don't share linguistic or cultural things in common (like you're north indian and only speak hindi, and your wife only speaks tamil or something.)
almost everyone here won't have been married "for long" as many people apply for AOS right after getting married, so i don't think Stokes will apply here, guys.
