Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds great! I was checking the local libraries websites and I just need to get a library card. As soon as I receive NOA in the mail I will be able to start driving license process  and will be free!! ? ... to see places around.

a lot of times, you don't need US IDs to get library cards if you also have a bill/mail to your name in your city.

Here in San Francisco, you just need a pulse to get a library card.

Hi I got my AOS whole package delivered at Chicago lockbox on March 3rd (mailed out on the 1st). Till now on March 23rd, I havent got any receipt notification yet from them. Its been 20 days. I am so frustrated!!! I sent them an email the day before yesterday, but no response yet. I saw a couple of persons here filed theirs at the same time, and got receipts almost 10 days after. What should I do? Is there anyone havent got receipt yet???

I lost my USPS tracking number, but I checked on March 3rd, it was delivered. And an odd thing I wasnt paying attention earlier that on my USPS receipt, the zip code is 60680-4187 instead of 60680-4120. The last four digits were different. I dont remember other details on the tracking receipt.

Am I screwed? I need helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!

USPS will go by what the ZIP code is rather than the zip+4 if there are issues. I have two postal worker friends who told me that in the past.

If you got signature confirmation, you'll soon see that "J. Chyba" or someone else will have signed for your package :)

Don't worry. It's possible the ZIP+4 might lead to trouble, but it's highly unlikely.

  3. My info is finally available online at track my case! Yay.

This is for a 3/5/17 NOA1 AOS, so I think it took me longer than some of you on here, but it seems like we all have slightly different timelines, so I didn't think much of it.

It doesn't say anything radically different from what my 3 NOA1s said, but it's nice* to be able to re-read these at work when I get bored sometimes. The originals are at home, so I can't always read them when the OCD person in me wants to double-check everything.

Best of luck to us all!

    *pathetic

  4. I have a question: does anyone have experience with, or anecdotally know about, anyone requesting to change their field office to a nearby one in the same metro area just because the other office has faster processing times?

I live in SF, and the San Jose field office, 40mi away, seems to be 1-2 months faster than here in San Francisco according the the Processing Times website.

I read this from the USCIS website:

    Quote

If an emergency prevents you from making your appointment, follow the instructions on the appointment notice. For Field Office appointments you can call customer service and request rescheduling, but we will not guarantee that we will agree to reschedule your case, or that rescheduling will not significantly affect your case.  In many instances, the Field Office will request evidence to demonstrate why you needed to reschedule your appointment.

It sounds like you can't change your field office except if it's an emergency, and that even then, you're not guaranteed that they'll let you change nor are you guaranteed the same place in line.

    Is that correct?

Hi, I'm still waiting, too. It's been over 15 days now since it was delivered. In the meantime I'm devouring books with kindle unlimited and improving my English. My son is going to join school next week (5th grade) he doesn't speak English. Anyone in the same situation? Any thread I can follow to get information on how to help him? Thanx

I have a suggestion for you: have you tried out your local public library's Kindle and audiobook collection? You'll find that most cities and towns in the US have excellent print and digital resources - and at least in five different states I've lived in, the collection has been better than what I get on Kindle Unlimited.

I would recommend browsing your local public library's Kindle book or audiobook collection and reading/listening to what they have to offer. Try it :)

Additionally, try podcasts while running errands or doing chores around the house. My gringa friend who's moving to Mexico to flee Trump is doing that and it's working well for her.

By the way, I just saw that you said your local office is Albany. My case will probably get routed to NYC because I'm closer to it. But I'd much rather go to Albany instead. So much easier to get to and they're working on August already instead of late March / early April in NYC.

Hey there, hope you don't mind me asking, but I take it the dates you included above refer to https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do data on local offices, correct?

I pulled up info for my local office, SF, which similar to NYC says March/April 2016 for I-485.

    What does that mean?

Is that the date they received application packages from? Or the date people got their NOA1 for I-485? Something else?

And how does now/today relate to this? The somewhat opaque description on the website you get after selecting a field office says "The chart below shows the forms processed at our Field Offices" - so in plain English, does that mean that as of today, people whose I-485 were NOA1 accepted on March, 2016 were able to get their Green Card?

Do I have to pay for a renewal?

Yup. renewals are paid, except if you apply fresh for your AOS package after they reject it and return your check - but we don't want that.

I have a friend who renewed her asylum EAD and she had to renew, even though the original is for free due to humanitarian grounds. They make pretty much everyone pay for renewal these days.

PS: nice seeing a fellow German speaker on this board :)

  8. Should have been c9, yeah. I don't know what others would recommend here, but I would wait and see when you get your EAD with the K-1 expiry date (whatever that may be for you), and then when you apply for renewal (I think 3-4 months before the EAD expires, you can renew it), use the correct category.

Others: do you know if she can apply for I-765 under c9 after having already sent it under c6?

    Dear antoineD,

    Sorry for my English.

Yes I visited civil surgeon in USA to get MMR shot and then they gave me I-693 in sealed envelope. On that time I show them my DS-3025 for checking what vaccine that I got in Indonesia and then they update in I-693 form.

So for AOS do I only need to submit the I-693 that civil surgeon gave me?

    Thanks so much

    Please don't apologize - you're fine :-)

The I-693 will include all information required for AOS. I just wanted to confirm that your doctor is aware of your MMR shot AND previous shots, and you say s/he is.

You're all set: I-693 is all you need on the medical front, at least.

Can I ask one more question,

During medical in my home country I didn't get MMR vaccine because not available, so I got here in USA .

Do I only need to submit the I-693 that I get from civil surgeon here in USA (sealed in envelope) ?

    Or

do I need to submit I-693 and also

a copy of DS-3025 that I got from medical test from my home country?

    thanks you again

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the tenses you used in the above paragraph.

Did you already get a 693 or will you soon go get your 693?

Hopefully, it's the later. You'll need to show a civil surgeon here in the US your medical records that show your vaccines, be they from Indonesia or from the US (from MMR) - the surgeon will then give you the I-693 to submit to the USCIS.

If you already got a 693 prior to getting an MMR shot, I would imagine you'd have to get a 693 again - your civil surgeon has to state that you got an MMR vaccine - you can't just attach a letter from the place where you got the vaccine in addition to a 693 that says you don't have it. USCIS won't be responsible for taking any medical statements from people other than civil surgeons.

    Does that make sense?

    Hello everyone,

is anyone from Michigan here that could help? So my husband got his state ID in Michigan, but expired when his I-94 expired. Anyone from Michigan know if we can use the I-797 to renew it or if we have to wait for the EAD or AOS? I have tried to call them but they don't seem to understand what I am asking.

    Thanks.

I'm from California, and I doubt I'd be able to use it here even - and trust me, you can get away with a ton of stuff in liberal California :)

When I tried to use a 797 to renew my driver license, they said it's not a form that entitles me to any benefits or functions as an ID in any way, so they recommended I use the state's program for undocumented migrants (!) to get licenses. I didn't do that.

I would just wait until you receive your EAD to renew your license.

Dont get in trouble when he's visiting you ! think also where he's from in USA  gay marriage must be legal not all states have legalize it ,so  let him find out about this. US embassy ground is considered USA .So if you go for interview you have nothing to be afraid off. Good luck . There was few gay capoles in November forum try to contact them .

Pretty sure gay marriage at the national level has been settled by Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015. There's parity in all immigration matters now.

  13. Hi everyone,

If you're planning on applying for I-485 for family-based AOS or otherwise, please note the recent change in form I-485. Since 2/21/17, the USCIS won't accept the previous version, which lasted barely a couple months.

Update to Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status

    Quote

New edition dated 01/17/17. Starting 02/21/17, USCIS will only accept the 01/17/17 edition. Until then, you can use previous editions. However, all filings postmarked 12/23/16 or later must include the new fees or we will reject them.

    Thanks for being careful.

  14. Hey everyone,

Long time lurker here - decided to finally sign up as I'd like to share my journey, ask questions, and answer other's question when able to do so.

I'm a foreigner married to a USC and we recently filed concurrently for 130/485, which was signed by a J. Chyba at the Chicago Lockbox a few minutes ago (he seems to be something of a celebrity on here...)

I didn't include a Biometrics fee because I went in for biometrics last March for a different visa I applied for. Is this a problem?

I am suspecting that the I-130 will continue to be processed, but that my I-485 will be sent back to me because I didn't include the $85 for the biometrics fee. I heard that even if the USCIS will "reuse" my old biometrics information - which is within the regulatory 15 months of validity - they'll still want the money in order to proceed.

Will my application be delayed now? And do any of you know of people in similar situations, and how long it took them to receive their information mailed back before re-submitting it?

Please tell me that I'm wrong here :-/
