sure if that works... I'd like to be able to speak someone in person if I have a problem especially if it involves my finances, which makes it worth the $19 a year for the bank account. No ATM BOA fees (obviously) and as you probably know you can find BOA ATMs everywhere.....although I don't even pay cash, I always pay with cards (mostly credit to rack up reward points) so I never need an ATM anyways
you... you pay a fee for a bank to hold your money and make interest on it?

I didnt hear anything about schwab. I have capital one 360 online bank. But it says no fdic insured etc. Thats why i didnt put any kinda money in that account. I dont know if i can deposit money from atm also.
CapOne is FDIC insured, so is Schwab. Where did you read that it's not?
https://www.capitalone.com/bank/
https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/banking_lending
you can't deposit money from an ATM into schwab, unfortunately - just checks and direct deposit. if you work in a cash-heavy business like waitressing, it may not be a good fit for you, but for one-time transfers, you can get a postal money order to deposit your initial funding of your checking account.
anyway, this is getting off-topic. feel free to message me if you have questions about schwab. from my experience, they're pretty welcoming of non-USCs/GC holders.

Since I'm here I'll ask few questions that were bugging me for a while.
My EAD is expiring in May, but I probably won't get interview until late April. Do you know if I need to apply for new EAD and pay the fee again? Also, since it'll be more than 12 months since my medical exam, will I need to get a new one? And the last questions- I'll be traveling abroad with my passport in my maiden name, and my AP card in my current last name. Did anybody have any experience with that? I'll be flying in through Detroit.
Thanks in advance!i think your other questions regarding this have been answered, but just to specify: make sure you book all your flights in your maiden name as most places will only accept your passport for ID, not AP.
when back in the US, the AP+marriage certificate should be enough.

i can''t have a bank account, they ask for my green card or i-94.
i had trustmark and they closed my account. even though i have EAD, Florida ID, social security card.
first florida bank said they cannot open an account for me.
is the only way to get a account from a bank is through my husband?
if you don't care about having physical branches, you shouldn't have problems opening a bank account online. they're often more lenient.
i use schwab as my main bank as they reimburse every ATM fee - local or international - no questions asked. they have many branches near me but i've never stepped into one.

I have a random question. If my husband received a social security card while he was still on a fiance visa, does he have to go to the social security office and get another card that doesn't have the "Valid for work only with DHS authorization"? Now that he has received his green card?
Thanks.
you're supposed to, but it doesn't really matter.

Do you recommend joining your spouse's credit card, or getting your own? I read somewhere that it's best to go the second way because then if one of you has a problem, the other one can still get stuff.
I think getting your own credit card is required for building credit. Joining your spouse's will certainly help in demonstrating to USCIS that you share finances, but it's still his/her line of credit, not yours, that's being built up.
Please note that if you're married, even if you're using different credit cards or have different loans, state laws may still hold you liable for your spouse's debts (some, not all - feel free to Google it) - but getting a separate card limits, not removes that risk.

I tried to apply to capital one online. They said they cant give me a secured credit card dont know why. I was thinking about regions because they are all around here. It will be easy to access maybe.
I originally applied for CapOne and IDK why they didn't approve me. I guess my credit history wasn't there when I first moved to the U.S.
Instead, I just walked to the nearest credit union and spoke to one of the personal bankers and they understood my situation and approved me for a $300 secured card which is now a $5,000 card. Sometimes, we just have to do more explaining as New Americans...

I have the same question + I'm from a country where you can't change your name, so I can't "fix" my passport name.

I was thinking about sending in AP app since I didn't do it with the original applications. How exactly did you go about doing it? did you just write a letter explaining this is part of a previous submitted AOS application?
i just included copies of my NOA1 for AOS and EAD and didn't send them payment.
they automatically understood that this is with my AOS app and that i don't need to pay.

Thanks for the heads up.
It's weird, NYC says they are reviewing cases from early Sept 2016, but my coworker who filed in November 2016 already had her interview a couple of weeks ago

please note that the processing times are 66 days old - so you have to factor that into your calculations.

Hm I figured since the ASC center is at a complete different location and not real CO's there (except for the supervisor) that they wouldn't be able to help me there at all... and there's no phone number to directly call the San Diego field office to ask about appointments and the main USCIS hotline also says the generic "no appointments available" answer.
try this: https://scottpeters.house.gov/help-with-a-federal-agency/privacy-release-form
i messaged pelosi cause i thought feinstein's office may be too overwhelmed to deal with this, but what do i know.

Really so there were people without appointment??? I didn't see any at mine and the security wanted to see my appointment letter the last time I was there. I read online that people are being turned away if they show up without appointment but that was the experience of people at other field offices... I guess I need to consider doing that though since I highly doubt I will ever be so lucky and get another appointment date. It's so hard to believe that they are giving appointments out on a daily basis with me always missing the release times.
I'm sure you've already considered this, but just in case: is it possible for you to call your local ASC and ask if they take walk-ins? Or if you can make an appointment over the phone if they always magically book out online?

I find that even the tier two officers often don't know what they're talking about. They also told me I wouldn't get the interview anytime soon and then I ended up getting it scheduled for September 29th. San Diego and San Francisco have similar processing times (San Diego is one month faster). Looking at the official processing times stated on the USCIS website, you should have your interview well before next year August.
Field Office Processing Dates for San Francisco CA as of: August 31, 2017 Form Form Name Processing Cases As Of Date: I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status 7. November 2016 ok, maybe i shouldn't put too much faith into the tier II guys either, but just be comforted that i at least passed the BG check.
16 hours ago, Californiansunset said:Has anyone here ever tried to go to the USCIS field office (preferably San Diego) without an infopass appointment?
I had my interview rescheduled and was told at my previous infopass appointment that I am going to have my new interview date within 60 days of the original date. Since they always schedule the interviews a month in advance I should've likely already gotten a notice about my new appointment.... but I haven't. I'm just getting a bit nervous bc it turned out at my last field office appointment that I did in order to make sure that they knew that my interview was rescheduled, that someone had messed up my papers and accidently put them as denied onto the wrong pile of cases instead of rescheduling it. Had I not went to talk to the CO at the field office it would've gotten sent back to Missouri as denied.
Ever since that day I've been trying to get a new appointment just to make sure that the CO really fixed the mistake but it's absolutely impossible to get a new appointment. I even have my internet browser set up to notify me of any changes to the uscis san diego field office appointment page. I'm getting so frustrated not knowing whether everything is okay...
i've personally only ever gone into a field office with an appointment, but my local office seems to always be booked out - i can never find availability on the website. i did see some people wait without an appointment when i last went (last year) and i imagine it's like at the DMV: it'll be WAY WAY slower, but you'll hopefully get to see someone by the end of the day if you get there early in the AM without an appointment, but i'm just extrapolating.

I followed up with the USCIS about my case, which has been at the National Benefits Center since March, 3rd, and has had an unassigned Service Request for over a month to check where it's at.
The Tier II officer told me:
1. my background check cleared a few days ago, and my case is awaiting availability at my local (SF) office
2. he said my case is "well within processing times" and that I can expect to hear back in late August 2018 (!!!!!!) by looking at current processing times for interviews
3. he can't say either way whether my Expedited I-131, which I applied for last month, has or hasn't been expedited.
This is awful.

Funny thing my driver's license is good for 5(!) years. I thought it would be valid until my ead would expire but that's not the case. Maybe it's a California thing or maybe I just got lucky!
same thing here. made me scared they assumed i was a citizen and automatically registered me to vote, too, while they're at it, but they didn't.
gotta be a cali thing.
