  1. Hi everyone, I am an approved i360 and i485. This site has given me strength and hope since I started my journey in 2016. I would like to share my journey first as an inspiration for other members who are going through the same things as I did a few years ago. I also can’t express enough of words to show how much appreciation for Sandra, our great advisor. 2018 was a great year for me: in February, I obtained permanent residency. This allowed me to have an opportunity to go back to school for education. And I chose nursing. Then in fall 2018, I started nursing school. Nursing school was another tough journey, but my heart knows this is what I want to do. In less than 6 weeks, I am graduating with a BSN degree!!! We are going through a difficult time dealing with this pandemic and I hope everyone out there is taking good care of themselves. For me, I am ready to join the workforce to fulfill the mission of nursing profession: to take care of people.

Nursing school have occupied me with studying, clinical hours, and exams that I did not realize that 2 years have already passed and in 7 months, I will be able to apply for naturalization. I am sure that I will be busy after graduation, therefore, I am starting to look at the process for naturalization. I have some questions to @sandranj as well as other members. On form N-400:

    -       How do I state that I am a VAWA applicant?

    -       Part 10, since my marital status right now is divorced, do I just skip item 2 to 8 and start at item 9?

    -       My ex-husband was married before me. However, I do not have information of when that marriage ended. Am I required to provide that information?

    -       My ex-husband was a US citizen through naturalization (more than 10 years before we met). I do not have copy of his naturalization certificate. Am I required to provide that information?

    -       What documents should I provide USCIS?

Since there are no guidelines for VAWA applicants, N-400 application is a little confusing for me so I hope that I can get help from you guys.

I submitted I-131 180 days ago (mid-June) and have so far only received the notice (mid-July). This seems very long to me. Can I raise an e-request for it being out of processing times or do they not do those for AP?

Mine was submitted in May and I just recently got approved end of November. So hang on there, I think you will get approved soon.

    Hello Everyone,

Just wondering about the reason behind not getting the prima facia till this moment

I360 & I 485 received on April 25/2017  Notice date on 5/18/2017 fee are waived

I got the EAD already a month ago

Anybody can tell me what it indication by not receiving the prima facia

Thanks and god bless you all

The issue if prima facie solely depends on the officer who works on your case. Lots of members here got approved without prima facie. In other words, having a prima facie does not mean that your case will be approved.

  4. @luoboy: Please give Sandra respect! She's an immigration attorney specializing in VAWA and a domestic violence advocate. She's giving all of us her advice and opinion. If you're not satisfied with her answer then don't bother to ask! Go ahead and hire a lawyer who can help you out with your immigration process.

Its your belief and nobody can change it. You can lists 100 cases that you know but at the end of the day you are still sitting here having no GC, asking around.

A lot of members here as well as me are thankful for a kind person like Sandra. Again, if you don't get the answer you want, go somewhere else. This forum exists because of a person like Sandra.

    Hey guys,

I just checked the online status on USCIS website and it shows that my case was just approved today. Here is my timeline:

    05/02/2016 case received

    05/16/2016 first prima facie

    01/25/2017 second prima facie

    5/10/2017 case approved

I did not receive any RFEs...

I want to specially thank @miloy001 for being so patience with me, answer my questions and explain to me over and over again... and also I want to thank @sandranj for answering my questions and provide me advises...

Moreover, @armorcannon told me that she was approved today as well. If you applied around May 2016, please check your online status, you might got your case approved too.

Vawa is a tough and long battle to fight. Wish you all good luck with your applications.

    Congratulations! Im happy for you

I have a question about reaching out to Congressman to check on case status? Do they reach out specifically to Vermont or the general USCIS. I asked my congressman to reach out for status of my i-360 and he just came back with the same answer that I got when I called general 1800, they are still processing, we sent you a prima facie extension and you have until the date on the renewal to wait, which means that they are saying I have to wait a year for processing since its prima facie is 6 months?

The Congressman office contacts directly to Vermont. If they give you the same answer with USCIS customer service, that means no decision has been made yet.

Thats what happened to me, too before I got approved.

  7. To rayofhope,

I think for any concerns you have, you should talk to an officer at infopass rather than sitting at home and worry yourself out.

    Below is my timeline:

    May 6, 2016             I-360 sent

May 16, 2016           USCIS sent notice that they received my case

    May 19, 2016           RFE requested

    July 5, 2016             RFE received

July 8, 2016             Prima Facie issued

         2017

March 13       Congressman informed me that USCIS has made a decision on my case, they did not tell what the decision was though

March 31       Found out VAWA was approved on March 8 at infopass

April 10          Received Prima Facie extension

    April 11          Contacted congressman

April 12         Approval notice sent from USCIS

April 17        Receive VAWA and EAD approval notice in mail

  8. Hi all,

Today I received the VAWA and EAD approval notice. I am so happy right now. I read some people have received the prima facie extension while they did not asked for it. So did I. Therefore, I want to share with you my experience.

I found out that my VAWA was approved in March through infopass. Last week, I received a notice for prima facie extension. I was surprised and wondered why USCIS sent me this without my request. So I contacted my congressman office. The lady at the office was really nice to me. She was able to get in touch with Vermont office and I think USCIS has realized that they sent me a wrong notice. After that, they sent the approval notice the day after my congressman inquired it.

I hope this helps other members who are still waiting.

  9. Good morning all,

Today I received the best news I have ever had in a long time. My application was approved!!! I filed VAWA in May 2016. On March 13th, the congressman office contacted me and said USCIS has made a decision on my case, but they did not tell exactly what the decision was. I waited and kept on checking the case status everyday but nothing changed. I was stressful, worried, and depressed. I cried and could not sleep at night. So I made an infopass for today. The officer told me that my case was approved on March 8th. He also advised me to do a FOIA to request for the approval notice.

I hope this gives other members hope and keep praying to God. He is listening to you.
