  1. Just to expand on the letter.   This is what my wife's notification of interview letter says:

COVID-19 Safety Precautions - To ensure the health and safety of all who enter USCIS offices, you must take the following safety precautions whenarriving for your interview:
    • DO NOT arrive more than 15 minutes prior to your interview time. You will not be permitted entry into the office until 15 minutes before yourinterview.
    • You and anyone permitted to come with you to your interview (as explained in the section, "Who should come with you?" below) must wear a facecovering that covers the mouth and nose.
    • Bring a black or blue ink pen with you to your interview.

Who should come with you? Only the following people may come with you to your interview:
    • If you do not speak English fluently, you should arrange to have an interpreter available by phone. Do not bring an interpreter to theinterview. If you need a Sign Language Interpreter or Certified Deaf Interpreter, call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 as soon aspossible.
    • Your attorney or authorized representative may come with you to the interview, or be available via phone.
    • If you have a disability and have an individual who assists you, that individual may come with you.

    Hope that helps

Hi MMarco,  This is just for her N400.  She received her 10 year green card about 7 months ago.   I did check the website again today and the letter is now posted.  Her interview date is scheduled for May 6th

  3. Hello all,

My wife is a November filer and received a Text and Email notification on 3/23/21 that an interview has been scheduled.  We checked online to see if we could get the exact date, but nothing has been updated other than notification that was sent.  We are assuming we won't get that date until the letter comes, but we are hoping its within the next month or two.    Good luck all.

  4. I agree with the poster that said it not worth it.  It’s very expensive. Although, my wife is from Thailand and moved here to Iowa almost 5 years ago.  She still hates the clothing styles here in the US.  There is also the issue of size.  My wife is very small and she has a hard time finding nice clothing for adult women in her size here.   When my wife moved here because I flew back to the US with her we had 4 large suitcases just for her.  All of my cloths were in a large carryon.  So we got most of her clothes over here but she had nothing for winter when she arrived in November.  To this day she orders her clothes from a website in China because it’s cheap and she gets the size and styles she wants.  It takes a little longer to arrive but it makes her happy.  And of course that’s most important, right guys? 😂. Just my 2 cents.

  5. Hey all,

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.  A couple of weeks ago we received an RFE.  The letter we received stated exactly what they said they already had and not to resend those documents.  We had sent a cover letter listing everything that was in the packet. We also had copies of everything we sent so I’m not worried about producing the evidence again.  The one missing document that was most notable was my son’s birth certificate.  It’s very frustrating to think that someone is mishandling these documents and many of them I would consider “sensitive”.   I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs and we have to be extremely protective with personal information!   I know all government offices have a Privacy Officers that you can report issues like this to.  But I feel it’s a he said she said thing and nothing would ever become of it.  It’s just very concerning.  Ok, I’ve vented!  Thanks for listening. 😊

Where are you getting mixed answers? Pretty common knowledge that you can file N400 when your window opens even if your I751 is still pending.

    This

An application for naturalization may not be approved if there is a pending petition for removal of conditions. If an applicant’s petition to remove conditions is pending at the time of filing or is filed prior to the interview, USCIS will adjudicate the petition to remove conditions prior to or concurrently with the adjudication of the naturalization application

    and this

Have had a Permanent Resident (Green) Cardfor at least five years, or for at least three years if you’re filing as the spouse of a U.S. citizen

    • You must renew your Permanent Resident Card before applying for citizenship if:

      • Your card will expire within six months of applying, or
      • Your card has already expired

  7. Hello all

I am sure this has been asked a million times but I get mixed answers from doing research.  My wife will have been a green card holder for 3 years as of January 2021.  We are still waiting for her I-751 to be approved.  She filed in February and has had her biometrics done already.  Is she able to start the citizenship process before she gets approval on her I-751?   Thanks all.

  8. My Wife entered through Chicago with her K1 Visa.   It was very pleasant.   besides the long line, the process was easy.   You can accompany your fiancé through the process if you choose.  There is no need to split up.   I went first and the officer checked me in.  He then called her up to the counter.  She just needed to hand the packet and her passport to the officer.   The officer that we encountered simply opened the packet,  sifted through all of the paper work, asked my then fiancé if she was aware that she needed to marry within 90 day.  She answered " Yes".  He then stamped her Visa, and said "Welcome to the United States" and we were through.

  9. After speaking about this with my wife, she says name changes are common. People will change them because they don’t like the old one, for reasons of luck and so on.  They are only required to request a name change through their Amphur. So there is a paper trail.  My wife said one of her friends changed her name 3 times because of luck.

  10. @RevGreen You would be surprised to find out there are more Thai around than you think.    I have found that the Thai communities here in Iowa are rather quiet  and keep to themselves but after you find a few, you will realize they are all over.   When my wife moved here we were interested in finding a Thai community.  It wasn't until we made a trip to the nearest Lao Temple which was about 100 miles away, that we made a few connections.  My wife has lived here for about 18 Months now and has a lot of Thai friends now.  They meet up as a group at least once a Month in someones home and cook Thai food all day.  Its a beautiful thing.  LOL.  You might also want to encourage your fiance to join a Thai facebook group called Visa2USA.  Its a very helpful group that could answer a lot of questions she might have from a Thai perspective.  She could also ask some of the users in there, if they are from the Kentucky Area.

I know I can’t go into the interview with my fiancé at the embassy but do they have a lobby or waiting room where I can wait while she interviews?

You won't even be able to get into the embassy.   You will have to wait outside.  Best thing to do, is find a nearby coffee shop or restaurant and wait.  It won't take long after she is let in.

Thank you for your reply and kind words.  Thanks for the advice also.  We went through a lawyer and had everything translated already.  The only thing we don’t have yet is the single status document.  Thanks for the heads up on that.  I’m not familiar with what an Amphur is.  Is that what it’s called in Thai?

The Amphur (อำเภอ) is like what we would consider the state capital's office.   Its where they do all government business.  Land Titles, Marriages, etc.

We just got our k1 NOA2 approval on March 9.  My fiancé’s interview will be at embassy in Bangkok.  My questions are how soon can she do her medical exam and police clearance?  Can she do after we get the NVC number or do we have to wait until they send her the packet in mail?  Also how long does it take to get an interview after the embassy gets everything from NVC?

I completely understand the excitement after receiving your NOA2, but you still have a little bit of a wait coming.  You won't be able to schedule the medical exam until you have an appointment date from the Embassy.  The interview appointment date is require by the hospital in order to make the appointment.   You do not want to get your police clearance too early.  It is only good for 90 days after its been issued so you will want to wait until you are closer to the appointment to avoid having to do it over again.

Some things you can do while you wait are:

    1. Get all of the immunizations complete.   It will be cheaper to do them at a clinic of your choice instead of having them done at the time of the exam.  Just make sure they are all documented so they can be presented at the exam.

    2.  Get the Single Status Document.   Your fiancé will have to go her home province's Amphur and get this done.

    3. Have all documents they are currently in Thai translated.  This is a must.  The embassy will not except anything that is not translated. (Birth Certificate, Divorce Papers, Single Status Document, Etc.)

Good luck on your journey.  I hope it goes fast for you.

    Scott

  14. You will not make the interview appointment.  The Embassy will make the  interview appointment after you have submitted all of the Packet 3 Documents.

When you receive your notice of the appointment date, ( Most likely by email) that is when you can schedule the medical exam.  She will need to provide the hospital of the  appointment date and also must take a copy of the notice with her to the hospital as proof.    There are only 2 hospitals I believe you can choose from to get this done.  Bangkok Nursing Home or Bumrungrad Hospital.   The medical exam is 2 days.  She will have the exam one day and the results on the second day.    Another thing to keep in mind is that your fiancé will have to be up to date on her  immunizations.  They will do the required immunizations at the hospital for additional costs.    My wife had all of hers done before she even had the exam.   A gonorrhea test is now mandatory as well, so don't be surprised if additional costs are added to cover immunizations if you have not done them already.

You can PM me if you would like and I can give you more information if you like and maybe I can have my wife assist your fiancé with her personal experiences.

After they begin working on the case how long before they allow the scheduling of the interview? What are the next steps?

    Thanks for any reply

When your status at the NVC changes from TRANSIT to READY, you can send Packet 3 to the embassy.  When you receive Packet 4 the Embassy will schedule the Interview appointment.    You will be able to check the Embassy website to get the date and time of  your appointment.  They are listed by NVC number.
