Oh I have no idea on that. Maybe you could check how these guys filed. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?op6=All&op7=Boston+MA&op1=&op2=&op4=1&op5=5%2C10%2C11&cfl=

Two most recent filers have filed in April 2017, one had oath already (3.5 months total processing), the other will have interview end of this month (most likely to be done in 5 months total).

Wow that's good to know! Given how glitchy the online application is and the fact that we live in Boston, I'm more convinced to do a paper application. Thanks!

This is not true. My I-751 was approved by VSC after I applied for naturalization. Even if they do conduct a joint I-751/N400 interview, Boston is among the fastest FOs in the country for N400 processing. According to the most recent timelines Boston is back to 4-5 months processing time. Think about the possibility of being done with USCIS forever by the beginning of 2018.

Given that Boston is one of the fastest FOs, do you think it would make more sense to send N-400 paper application as opposed to online? I've been debating for a few weeks whether to apply online or not (our I-751 was already approved)

Yes, I actually did select the option between Oct 17, 2012 - Oct 17, 2014 and it allowed me to go through! Then my husband got freaked out so I deleted the draft case. I think I will wait until next week and see if the date changes. It definitely moves from when I checked 2 weeks ago. I am guessing it rolls over every Monday. When are you planning to submit the application? I am sure you can do it now.

That sounds about right. I tried applying 2 weeks ago and the cutoff date was Sept 27 2014 so clearly it's been moving. My husband (the GC holder) just left to visit his family in france for a week so probably when he gets back we will start the process. Still not sure whether or not to apply online. I thought it was moving faster than the paper application but it looks like they're the same. And given how glitchy the website is i'm a bit nervous to file online

Hi @hsa12390, Did you find out how often the day moves forward in online filing? I am encountering the same issues. The date in the questionnaire shows exactly a day before my 3 years GC anniversary. I am eligible since yesterday but the date has not moved forward.

    Thanks!

I haven't checked again recently, but I figured out a way around it in any case. I actually just clicked yes the second option ("did you get your conditional GC between September 27,2012 and September 27 2014) just to see what would happen and it did in fact let me access the application. I thought that when I put in my GC anniversary date later it would maybe give me problems but it did in fact let me proceed even after I put that I received my GC on Sept 30th 2014. Not sure if it'll actually let me submit the entire thing...

Out of curiousity - which date is it showing now as the cutoff date?

  5. Seems like for those of us who had their cases expedited, it was only expedited at NVC stage or embassy stage, not USCIS stage. Still, they should at least be able to tell you whether your case has been assigned to an officer. Certainly can't hurt. Just be sure to follow up with the immigration specialists working in the offices often because they are no doubt swamped and (at least in my case) weren't extremely communicative

Can you explain what you mean by several? Presumably anyone has a maximum of three elected officials they can reach out to: two senators and one representative.

To OP's point, the benefit of having your representatives in Congress contact USCIS is just for a status check through the USCIS Congressional Inquiry Unit. I believe USCIS is required to respond to them within a certain short timeframe (I don't remember exactly how long). However a congressional inquiry alone isn't enough to expedite a case.

I reached out to Senator Markey and Congressman Kennedy as well as another Senator who I forget. I believe Senator Markey was the one who got the case expedited. I managed to dig up the message that NVC sent to our congressman:

"We received an expedite request for this case on August 9, 2014.  The request was forwarded to the U.S. Embassy.  When a response is received, your office will be notified with further instructions"

We wound up getting the interview scheduled a few days later, which was a process that normally took a couple of months. I can't find that original message but I remember it said that the interview was expedited.

As much as I despise my senator, today I plead for her assistance of my pending i751.

I am wondering if there is any kind of correlation between senator enquiry and USCIS moving case forward.

if not, aren't we just running a fool's errand?

Don't want to get your hopes up, but I reached out to several senators and congressmen when my husband's I-130 was severely delayed and they made several inquiries. They all told me that their enquiries would not be able to expedite our case, instead it's just to get a status update. However, his embassy interview was (eventually) scheduled in 3 days (which normally takes 2-3 months) and the embassy sent a long a letter saying it's been expedited at congressman's request.

So basically it's impossible to know in advance, but reaching out to them is definitely the right way to go and might even get your case expedited...

Also, i'm in Boston and feel the same way about her (our senator) :) you might try Senator Markey and congressman Kennedy. They were the ones who helped us back in 2014

It is entirely up to you to efile or not. Given the uncertainty of the system, if I could go back in time, I doubt if I would efile.

Remember last year when they were converting n400 to elis and had the glitch and they are still seeking recourses?

I read that people filing online are being processed much faster. We're waiting to receive our 10 year GC in the mail (got the approval letter a week ago) so we won't file until we receive that anyways which buys us probably a few weeks to see how other cases are going and decide

Good to know -- thanks. The date doesn't seem to be moving on a daily basis, but if it was Sept 7 or so when you tried and is now Sept 27 (at least as of yesterday), it must move at some point. Thanks again!

i actually tried just clicking "yes" to the question of whether I filed between Sept 27, 2012 and Sept 27 2014 and it brought me to the application. I haven't tried filling it out yet, and when i put in my GC date it might not let me but at least I'm able to access the application so it may just be a system glitch. I will try filling it out entirely later and let you know whether I succeed!

No it wasn't Sept. 27. My gc anniversary date is 9/10/2014. I think the date showing was like 9/7/2014 or something like that. Just a few days off. At that time, I had no idea how it worked so I just decided to apply by mail. I think the dates adjust everyday? Not sure. Have you tried checking everyday if it would move?

Do you remember exactly which date you tried applying on? If I know that I can figure out how long I may have to wait for the system to change. I have been checking everyday for about a week and the date still says Sept 27th, but it's good to know that it probably won't stay that way forever. I could apply by mail but I heard online is much faster

When i tried applying online, the cut off date it showed me was like 3 days off I think if i remember correctly. So I just sent my application in via mail.

Do you remember what date that was? Was it also Sept 27th? If it wasn't that means that it is changing right? What date did you try to fill out the application? We could try and figure out how often it's moving based on that

The system is a bit weird. When I applied I didn't even get that question. Also, I applied on the 13th but my NOA shows I applied on the 12th.

Now i'm not sure what to do. The most annoying thing is my hubby's GC date is Sept 30th so we only miss the cut off by 3 days. I was thinking of just answering that we did get the GC between those 2 dates (9/27/2012-9/27/2014) and applying anyways since it may just be a system glitch. Otherwise I'd wait but I don't want to wait too long since it may never change and they may never move the cut off date

  13. Hi VJers

My husband become a conditional LPR on Sept 30th, 2014. According to the early filing rule, he can apply for citizenship July 2nd, 2017 (yesterday) since it's 3 years -90 days from his GC anniversary date.

I'm trying to apply for my husband's N-400 online and when I go to determine my eligibility it asks whether he got his green card before Sept 27, 2012, between Sept 27, 2012 and Sept 27, 2014, or after. When I clicked after (since it was Sept 30th 2014) it says he's not eligible.

So should I wait 3 days and try again? I don't understand why it's asking about Sept 27th since technically someone with a Sept 30th anniversary date would already be eligible to apply for citizenship...

    Any ideas?

HI all. I got my hard copy letter today letting me know that my new green card is on the way. It says the green card should be received within the next 60 days. Does anyone know if it actually takes them 60 days, or do they usually get these sent off sooner? I'm curious as I would like to have a card in hand rather than having to go get a stamp in my passport if I want to pop over to Canada. thanks!

I asked the same question in another thread since we received our approval letter yesterday also saying it can take up to 60 days and instructing us not to travel before then. a couple of people said they got theirs within 2-3 weeks. but i would imagine that you could still travel with your GC + extension letter
