  1. I wrote my congressman's office and they basically wrote me back telling me what one of the phone reps at the USCIS would say. Was I happy about it? Not really, but hey at least I did something and I know it probably makes my wife feel a little better, as it is hardest for her not knowing what her immediate future holds.

I am fortunate enough to be able to visit her for 6 weeks in JoBurg, so regardless of how long it takes, the time from which we will not have seen each other will be much shorter than if I was not making this trip. Plus I will get to experience Christmas in the summer and instead of Christmas decorations around people's homes, I will get the lovely scenery of growling dogs, razor wire and 10 foot falls around everyone's home and beggars and murderers walking the streets. Not to mention the constant fear of being car hijacked in the middle of the day. :) :) :)

  2. There might not be anything wrong with your application. These things just happen sometimes. I am sure there have been times in life where things turned out unexpectedly good, or sooner than you thought. This is tougher than most because it involved your husband and a considerable longer length of time than most things.

  3. As we were watching the baseball the other night (GO TIGERS!) my dear husband said matter-of-factly "don't the fielders get an advantage because they wear mitts"

I told him that the Yankees were hateworthy because they were a combination of Man U and Chelsea -- that he could get his head around.

Taking those two games in Oakland was unexpected, but then again so was the trouncing of the Yanks. I am a firm believer in playing terrible ball down the stretch to get it out of your system so once the playoffs come around you can get it going. ( see White Sox last year and Tigers this year)

I definitely think the Tigers have a good chance to win the World Series due to the fact that they have outstanding power pitching, an experienced manager and professional veteran hitters.

I think a Mets Tigers matchup is most appealing at this point seeing as for most of the season they were the two best teams in their respective leagues.

  4. Why American chicks WTFPWN @ soccer and American guys don't give a darn 'bout it..

and why is it called soccer, instead of football.. cuz u have American football, the rest of teh world, just football

Not true. Soccer is actually reasonably popular in the United States, it is just overshadowed by more popular sports with more money and more marketing.

I played soccer as a child and thought it was one of the best things I ever did, as hitting a baseball ( my true passion) was next to impossible for me.

  5. I haven't seen to many threads dedicated to discussing male interests ( most of visa journey is composed of women I believe. So I have decided to create a thread where women or men not familar with the great american sports can ask questions or start discussions based on these sports. If you have ever been confused as to why men like these things, or puzzled about American sports this thread is for you. If you don't care that is ok too, just don't troll the thread :)

So ask away. I consider myself reasonably well versed on this subject matter so hopefully I can provide some insight.

  6. Dear Mr........:

I received your fax with the I-129 F. Based on the information on the receipt the National Benefits Center is working this petition. According to their website, NBC is currently working I-129Fs with a "Notice Date of March 20, 2006" as of September 19, 2006. Your wife's petition is dated July 20, 2006.

Based on the receipt number of your I-130, it appears to have a date of June 20, 2006. The California Service Center is the center working the I-130s. Currently CSC are working petitions dated March 20, 2006 as of September 19, 2006.

Manny, did you by chance sign a G-28 for this agency that helped you with the paperwork? This form allows all correspondences from USCIS to go directly this agency. Hopefully, they will have a copy of the I-130 for your records. If not, attached is a link that could give you instructions to file for duplicate paperwork: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/dupapp.htm

Please keep in mind when you filed the I-129 and I-130, you have to keep both petitions active. They are on parallel tracks and both need to keep moving forward.

    I hope this information helps.

    Sincerely,

    .............

    Constituent Services Representative

This is from my district office. This person is supposed to be the immigration expert but it sounds like he/she doesn't really know what is going on....Should I perhaps contact my senator or perhaps some congressman from another state that might perhaps have someone a but more informed? I am grateful that this person is trying to help, but it sounds basically like what the USCIS hotline would tell me.

  7. Dip_Sticks I am taking the same sort of action you are. I called my Congressman's office and spoke to someone and proceeded to fax some information to them. I also scheduled an infopass appointment for this coming Tuesday.

I think all any of us can do is try to be proactive and on top of things and wait and see how they play out. I think you will feel better knowing you have taken some action. I know I do. Even if it takes 2 years I want to know I have done all I can do to make sure things get moved along. Other than that it just isn't in my hands.

  8. Your situation sounds very similar similar to mine Tracy, I haven't yet had a big party with my wife's family but I did have a great visit and saw some unique animals and some great landscape.

I am going to be there for a month and half so we can spend Christmas together, and maybe just maybe the interview will be during that time so I can attend.

I you attending the interview with your husband or does Peru not allow that?

  9. I think a lot of people married quickly on here, simply due to the nature of being in love with someone so far away. We aren't granted the luxury of dating someone for years and seeing them everyday. We often have to make quick, decisions that we might not have to had made were we perhaps granted easier access to those we love.

Morroco I am really sorry to hear what has happened to you over the past two years. It's a damn shame really that the interview was conducted in such a pathetic manner and that your husband wasn't allowed to present his side of the story in a more effecient manner.

You know what is kind of sad about all of this? My mother actually married a man 40 years older than herself in order to basically inherit his money when he died so she could have it for herself and the man she was really in love with ( who didn't love her) and that sort of thing is just allowed to go on, while good legit marriages are scrutinized because someone happens to be from a different country.

OK...this thread is starting to freak me out a little. My husband and I married just 2 months after we met. We had a civil ceremony here in Texas with family in attendance. Then we had a large, formal wedding in Lima last March. We also attended pre-marital counseling with my minister while Luis was here in the States with me, and a letter from my minister addressing this. On top of all this, there are literally hundreds of photos showing Luis and I at both of our ceremonies and with both of our families.

I'm wondering if I should do the letter thing now, too???

I think in her case a great deal of the scrutiny was a result of the fact that she married a middle eastern man and there was an age difference issue.

  10. Thanks for the heads up. If I were to write them a letter how exactly would I address it and for what purpose would I tell them I am writing and and when would I write it?

Our wedding was indeed small and lovely but was attended by family and a few friends and we are actually having a party when she returns. We also had a wedding reception at my aunts house and tons of photos plus pictures of our honey moon and lots of other places.

I have heard that South Africa is a relatively easy consulate to go through. I am totally puzzled as to why the person interviewing your husband didn't ask these basic questions to him, if his job is to try and make a judgement based on evidence presented.

  11. I am still waiting to find out WHY they decided the marriage wasn't legit. I am sure they gave your wife some reasoning, or perhaps she was able to deduce this herself based on the questions asked.

If you are going through this again and don't have a better plan then you probably SHOULD start packing.

    Please explain the details.

  12. For the vets that have been posting here for a while, I pose this question to you. What threads do you think need stickes? The front page of this forum is usually barraged with questions that have probably been answered a million times already. Since most people probably don't know how or don't care to use the search feature how about we make some stickies for these commonly answered questions. Plus these stickes could be helpful to all people who are in need of a refresher on certain key topics, and a general place to add more detailed information whenever someone learns something important about a subject.

Here are a few of my suggestions for stickes

    1. Can my spouse visit on a tourist visa while application is pending?

This is probably one of the most asked questions and most confusing for people, especially those new and confused about the process. It probably gets asked 10 times a week.

    2.What does touched mean?

3.Should I cancel this application in favor of that one?

Those are just a few that I can think of. Feel free to add your suggestions.
