  1. We are DONE....My wife had her oath ceremony yesterday. I was a moment we had worked towards for a long time.

From entering the country on a K1 visa in 2016 to becoming a US citizens took about 37 months. I realize that, compared to many others in this situation, this is relatively short, and we are thankful for that.

With all the hassles and uncertainties along the way, it's sometimes easy to forget what a privilege this really is, one that many others will never have the opportunity to pursue. I hope that people don't loose sight of that, despite all the  inconveniences we have to go through to make it there.

I am thankful for the help this community provided us along the way. I wish everyone a speedy and painless journey to citizenship.

If anyone has any particular question, please pm me.

You should have received a printed notice about the transfer, but, in any case, if it went from local to "another", it's at NBC.

    Just an fyi.

My wife had her I751 pending while filing for citizenship. We never received any notice about a transfer. The day of her N400 interview we still had no idea that this would be a combo interview.

I751 went to VSC, local office is Raleigh, NC.

I don't think transfer notices are always sent out when there is movement on a case.

Hello group! My interview is scheduled for 11/14 at the Atlanta field office. The interview notice reads that I should bring:

    "

    •This letter.
•Your Alien Registration Card ("green card").
•Any evidence of Selective Service Registration.
•Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States.

If copies of a document were submitted as evidence with your N400 application, the originals of those documents should be brought to the interview.

    "

I see in forums that people carry income tax documents, petitions from the past etc.

I'm wondering if I should carry those documents.

My green card is employment-based. Can somebody please comment based on their experience?

    Thanks!

For those with a marriage-based green card, did you/will you bring copies or originals of your marriage certificate and spouse’s birth certificate?

I suggest bringing original for everything that was submitted online and even relevant documents that you did not submit along with your application.

My wife had a combo interview and the officer asked if we had an original of our daughter's birth certificate. I don't know how it got lost online but luckily we brought originals for everything and he was able to make copies so he could approve both the same day.

It's better to bring everything and not use any of it than to be missing maybe one item that could potentially prolong the process unnecessarily.

  4.

I know it's tough, but don't get too wrapped around the axle with the estimated completion and wait times.

My wife had her interview on October 3rd, at least one month before she was supposed to hear anything.

She is now scheduled for the oath ceremony on November 18th (it took longer because she is processing a name change). That means she will be done with everything and become a US citizen on Nov 18th. However, her "estimated wait time" still says 2 months and "estimated completion time 3 months", a lot sooner than what is posted.

    Hi,

I have my combo interview schedule for the 29th. Could someone give me suggestions as to what to bring as evidence,? My husband will come with me.

We brought more recent pictures from our trips this year and some mail that was addressed to my wife at our current address. Copies of tickets and/or boarding passes, if you took any trips together recently. A more recent insurance and/or benefits statement from your employer.

We brought all those and didn't need any of it.

However, I suggest bringing originals for everything that was submitted online. Somehow in the process our daughter's birth certificate was lost. Because we brought the original, the officer was able to make a copy and close out the application.

    Good luck

    Hi.

I'm curious. Did she change her family name or her given name?

    --David

It's actually her middle name that she wants to be a certain way on all documents.

Between her NC id, SS card, green card and Filipino passport, she has 3 or 4 different name combinations. She would like to make them all the same with her middle name being her maiden name. It's much easier when we travel

For all who did your interview , do they just ask you the civics questions or there is a computer that you take a test on ?

    Where the questions hard ?

You are handed a tablet which you will use to read from as well as write on. That comprises the English read/write comprehension part of the interview.

You are then asked up to 10 questions, all of which are in the study guide. If you answer 6 of them correctly, you are done. There are also apps you can use to study the same material from your phone/tablet. That completes the civics test part of the interview.

What else the officer the decides to ask you is on a case by case scenario and is independent of the English language and civics tests.

That's got to be some of the best news yet. Congrats. We are in that situation however no action on 751 since jurisdiction moved to the N400 office.

    Thanks

Don't count on hearing anything regarding the I-751. We had no idea this would be a combo interview. There had been no status change since September of last year. No movement whatsoever on the pending ROC case.

  9. My wife had her interview yesterday and she passed. She had a pending I-751 that she filed in July of 2018.

We (my wife, myself and our daughter) were called in together to the interview room. The office said that he had to take care of the I-751 before he could process the N-400.

We were both sworn in and he proceeded to ask a few basic questions. He asked for a copy of our daughters birth certificate. We had brought an original and he made a copy for us. He then asked me to wait outside with our daughter.

He went over a few questions on the N-400 application, asked a few personal questions and touched on some of the travel we had done. He asked about the name change that we requested for her.

He then conducted the reading/writing and civics test. She was done in about 15 minutes. The officer was fast and professional. She told me that he made her feel at ease, repeated question when she didn't understand. He was not intimidating and that the whole process was a good experience, all things considered.

    This is what we learned since yesterday;

    - Study the questions to the point that you can answer them easily under pressure. There are no surprises and/or trick questions, it's all in the study guide.

    - We had submitted a letter with her application, requesting the I-751 to be adjudicated with the N-400. I don't know if it made any difference, I didn't ask. However, we never received any notification that her case was transferred or that a new office had jurisdiction over it. So, if you're applying with a pending

I-751, do yourself a favor and definitely bring your spouse/kid, and relevant paperwork; just in case it ends up being a combo interview.

    - The websites are slow to catch up, the old one being more accurate. It shows that the new card is being produced and that we are waiting for the oath ceremony to be scheduled. The new website still shows the I-751 as " case was received". We received 2 emails immediately following the interview, one more today.

Last thing; the new website now shows "estimated wait time 3 months" and "estimated case completion time 2 months". We are requesting a name change which is most likely causing a slight delay.

  10. My wife had her N-400 interview yesterday and she passed.

We were both called in to the interview room and the first thing the officer said was that he had to take care of the I-751 before he could process the N-400 application.

We were sworn in and he proceeded to ask us a few basic questions. That was it; I left the room with our daughter and he conducted the N-400 interview with my wife.

I don't know if it made any difference, but we had submitted a letter with the N-400 application asking to to have both adjudicated at the same time.

All in all it was a good experience. The officer was friendly, fast and very professional.

To this point we never received any notification that the case was transferred or that the local office (Raleigh, NC) had jurisdiction over it. The status on both websites never changed. Just today we received an email stating that the new card has been ordered.

    Oath ceremony scheduled Oct 3.🥳

    Hi jslekcun

Do you happen to know if you oath ceremony is administrative or judicial? My wife has her interview on October 3rd in Raleigh. We want to process a name change for her but in order to do so the oath ceremony will need to be held by a judge (judicial). I don't know if and when Raleigh has that type of ceremony and if we could go to Charlotte, just to speed up the process.

patsfan038 -  we have a very similar timeline. My wife did her biometrics on July 10.

On August 30 she was notified that her interview is scheduled for October 3rd. At that time her "estimated completion time" was 3 months (November 2019) and "wait time" was 29 days.

What I deduct from this is that the fist estimated date is complete through oath taking, which often takes place within a month of the interview. The second estimate is when you can expect a status update. As you can see, the later is not all that accurate; in our case we were ahead by roughly 27 days.

    Thanks Stevo1979

Last night the interview letter showed up in the documents tab. My wife's n-400 interview is scheduled for October 3rd.

For those of you (us) who are desperately following websites, email notification and apps, this is what took place for us:

First was an email notification that an interview will be scheduled. The OLD website updated first to reflect that.

Later that day we received a notification from the app, after which the NEW website updated. I did not see the letter in documents tab until the next morning, so basically almost 2 days later.

As far estimated completion and wait times:

The estimated completion time still shows November (3 mo), so I assume this is inclusive of the oath taking part of the process.

The "wait time" started counting down from 29 days few a days ago until it disappeared when the interview was scheduled. What that tells me is that the wait time is when you can expect to see a status change or some communication regarding the N-400 application. It's just that, a rough estimate and in our case it was off by 27 days (in our favor).

I don't yet know how this will work out with the pending I-751 petition. It has not changed

  16. We received an email today that my wife's N-400 interview is scheduled. No date but we are being told that we will be receiving a letter in the mail.

Nothing in the documents tab either yet. (Raleigh, NC field office)

Her I-751 is still pending since "case was received" status update back in August of 2018. I'm hoping fore a combo interview unless by some miracle her I-751 is approved by the time she interviews. She had filed at VSC.
