  1. My man was keen on my tattoos as well! I was a little nervous of the blood test and he reassured me it's not as bad as my tattoos haha!

I'm happy the UK medical seems to be the lesser of evils.

Gotta admit, I was happy when it was over though!

I'm a typical man afraid of needles!

Had to endure 2 vaccys and blood test

So the doctor took my blood pressure, and it was slightly high

She actually said, 'oh your blood pressure is up, no doubt you are scared of needles'................... well duh!

    Haha

  2. I wouldn't worry about it being a man, They don't even touch or examine your "parts". All he did with me is ask me to pull my knickers down real quick so he could see I wasn't a boy. Other than that, there is no other probing that would make you feel uncomfortable. and if you have the same man, he is lovely!

    Ditto for me

Man with a lady doctor, she just did a quick cough and drop (a man thing)

She was from New Zealand and seemed more interested in my tattoo's

I really get the feeling from experience and other VJ'ers posts, that the UK medical is really a basic look around, and nothing to get uptight about

  3. Thanks for your replies.

She didn't seem concerned by it, but she said for the embassy's sake they need more detailed info because I take Citalopram (an antidepressant) the letter asks for:

    Diagnosis

    Investigations - if any

    Treatment

    Duration of treatment and illness

Any prior or subsequent mental health issues

Any incidents of self harm, harm to others or suicidal attempts

Prognosis and your opinion of current mental state

She said it's just a standard template...

But here's where I'm worried. In regards to the self harm she asked me questions like 'did you go to your GP after?' 'Did you need hospitalisation or stitches?' I said no to both (which is true)

But when I think it all over I think my GP asked me once 'have you ever self harmed' and I said yes.. But it was never made an issue.

Should I be worried that they might think I deliberately misrepresented myself by saying 'no' when in fact my GP may have a note of it.... Or am I overthinking?

You have moved into classic overthink/panic mode!

Get the letter you are fine

Please remember a gazillion people have gone through this process with no problems

  4. Other self-harm people I have know in this UK forum have been ok with similar reports from their GP. If there is any further information Knightsbridge should want, they will write the information for your doctor to respond. As soon as your doctor provides the info, they send your report on to the embassy.

I agree, other posters have been in your position with GP's letter and have been fine

    Answer questions truthfully, you're good

  5. This is all getting a little tedious

UK applicants getting RFE'd for the correct paperwork!

Unfortunately there is very little we can do

We got RFE'd, but we thought they'd lost the paperwork so resent, it turned out that they didn't understand our decrees

We were lucky our RFE came from the NVC and my wife was able to speak to a supervisor and they accepted our paperwork.

Some people have highlighted the relevant wording, others (John and Maita) have got them notarized

What's the answer? Personally I would go the highlighting route, but I can understand the notarizing route

If I had to do my application again I would highlight, I think poor John/Matia got a complete idiot working on their case!

  6. I'm going to have to disagree respectfully with Darnell. I have read many, many times that it is important to keep your non-USC wife from becoming too Westernised lest she develop bad US lady-habits, like Cheeto-eating. There's a valid point to be made in there. I mean, if your model comes smelling like Miss Dior you don't want it degrading so that there's a constant whiff of stale corn and cheese in the air.

As far as a non USC husband (me) goes my farts have always smelt of roses

  7. Vanitas wrote this thread for Ukers a while back. Might have some helpful suggestions. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/455076-things-you-need-to-do-before-leaving-the-uk/ Notifying the HMRC via the P85 form actually was a boon for my husband that received a nice sum of cash back not long after he left for the US. If you have student loans via the SLC you'll also have to notify them.. and probably get a hard time.

Ditto I filed my P-85 and got a lovely present from the tax man!

Blew it all at Xmas though lol

  8. I took the decision to leave my Vinyl behind, thought I would hate it, but nope not at all

Its an ideal time to clear out, I had so much sentimental stuff it was scary!

    You'll manage without it

I admit I brought 1 LP with me, my orange vinyl signed Killing Joke album lol

Don't bother bringing electrical stuff, sell it on EBay and buy new, electronics are sooooooooooo cheap now

  9. Hi guys i am filling out the medical questionnaire form and it's asking if I have ever been hospitalised? I was in hospital for baby birth and a small operation do I put yes?

Also can someone who has experienced the medical examination in london tell me how they do the exam and what they check?

Can we ask for a female to do the examination or it has to be a male?

It's quiet uncomfortable for me to think a man will be doing my physical exam.

Just want to know what they do please share your experiences :)

    thanks

I put all operations where I stayed overnight

I had a female doctor (I'm male) but she asked if I would prefer a male doctor, I couldn't careless they are doctors

But read the hundreds of posts that asked exactly the same questions, read the forum mentioned above or use the search facility

  10. Unless your situation is unusual or very complicated, you can certainly complete and submit the forms yourself. Read the NJ guides, look at the sample forms and letters and be sure to ask questions if you are unsure about something. VJ has a wealth of people who have been through the process and can offer informed guidance.

We went through the entire process without a lawyer. You probably can too.

    Good Luck!

I agree, if your case is pretty straight forward do it yourself

I am not the most gifted paperwork wise and managed to do it

    Save the money!

  11. Thanks Trudi, I'm going to start applying for it at the end of the month. How long does it take? I can't seem to find out how long it takes on the FAQ's on the website. Thanks :)

ETA: Never mind she said it was £45 for 10 working days and £80 for 2 working days. I called to ask about who can endorse my application as I didn't know any one with those professions on the list but the person I have they said is fine.

Mine took 10 days, I just got my boss to sign it

  12. Thanks guys :) It looks like I need to go get boosters done :/ I had my Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis shots in 3 parts when I was a baby but no boosters, I had my polio one done as a baby too again no boosters.

Same goes for my MMR jabs, I've had them but no boosters according to my vaccine record, I am going to speak to my mum and see what she says but would it be best if I get my GP to give me the shots rather than at the medical? Or could I get them all done at the medical once and for all?

I've head that these are the important ones for the medical and I did have chickenpox twice as a child so I know I don't need that one.

    Thanks :)

Try and get them done at your GP, i didn't have any records or time to get to my GP

    I had 2 jabs at £80 each!

Luckily I was a month before the flu jab season

  13. I don't know about anybody else but I married my Filipino wife because I love her! I never thought about ease of visas or expediting a visa or if the embassy was easier in one country or another. I really was impressed with the culture of the Philippines and how family is so important there and the feminine qualities that you find in Filipinas that is missing in a lot of American women now. Me and my wife have a great relationship and life together and I couldn't be happier. Since the OP asked the question why Americans marry girls from the Philippines then I ask why do Americans marry males or females from Tunisia? That question could be asked of all of us regarding countries of our significant others. I think each one of us would have a unique answer specific to their lives but one common answer no matter what country is that this is the person you love so really it doesn't matter what country or part of the world they are from.

    Great post
