  1. I think it really is the luck of the draw, i also think it may be influenced by your petition expiry date but only guessing

As EmmyLou says i had my medical and submitted my DS160 etc before she did but my interview is a week later, however she is a Sept flier and i am an Oct flier so possibly something to do with it?

Tis the workings of the Embassy and none of us will ever know

Personally i'm just thrilled its all gone through so fast!

On another note, still don't know if the house is actually going to complete, the bottom of the chain are dicking about, completion date has moved from tomorrow to next Thurs

I'm still moving down to my mums tomorrow and just hoping it does go through!

Everything was collected by the removal men this afternoon for delivery to my sister who is most happy to be getting all my stuff - its really weird and kinda sad to be sat in the empty house, just me, the dog, a camp bed and a kettle (and my laptop and phone...) :(

Ah welcome to the nearly there life, we have all been there lol

PS a least you have a kettle so Pot Noodles are a tasty snack.............................

  2. still don't understand why so much effort is being spent (or about to be spent) bringing millions of border jumpers and visa cheats 'out of the shadows' and possibly given work permits...the H1B program has a cap of around 65,000, and another 15,000 for people with advanced degrees; the H2b annual cap is also around 60,000....yet 5+MILLION illegals might be given work permits??? Huh??? What does that say about our laws? It seems to say, 'we don't care if you obey them or not...we will reward you!'....sheesh...

    Similar situation to the UK

It says to me, the governemt don't know how to deal with the situation properly wihout upsetting people, they are too scared to just 'send em back'

So the answer, give them a right to stay and forever put up with the thousands/millions that will continue to ignore the system

Makes us legal's look a bit silly!

  3. No I didn't know that in respect of 5 months total per year. I wouldn't get near that in truth in my current circumstances but, nevertheless, useful to know. Still though, good to know that a consistently compliant travel record is a valuable asset to the would be traveller presenting at POE

And definitely no good a travel record will help a belligerent drunk.

I think it has to be slightly less than 6 months, but the general rule is whatever time you spend in the USA, follow it up with equal (or more) time back home

Also you become an interest to the IRS over 6 months and maybe liable for taxation!!

  4. Welcome to VJ!

Yes the system sucks, I am one of the successful ones, but it took 15 months!!

I am lucky some people are still waiting

The US really doesn't care what you think, what it cares about are the millions of fraudulant applications that clutter up the system

Nobody has a divine right to enter the USA

Yeah it takes forever, be proactive, push the application, get it done

Complaining about it will not allow you in the country any quicker

Be thankful you are close enough to visit, even for me it was an 11 hour flight, think about the people in the Africa's or Asia

  5. As already stated I would give yourself 3-4 hour lay over

Really it's up to you how you want to work it

My time at POE was maybe 5 mins longer than normal entry, but then I stood in line for an hour LAX!!!

  6. How much weight does a CBP put on past good compliance with VWP conditions? My wife is a USC (we both live in Ireland for the moment - I am in CR1/IR1 process) and I've travelled to the US on VWP 7-8 times over the past 5 years, each time as a bona-fide tourist for 2-3 weeks and each time returning on the intended date as specified to the CBP official.

Does this factor into the CBP official's decision making to any significant degree or is past performance viewed as insignificant to possible future intentions at each POE event?

Or does it essentially all boil down to questioning and verbal/non verbal response to same?

    Very good question

I would imagine that you may spike an interest if you ran close to the limits, you know staying 89 days per visit or 5 months total in a calendar year

Similar to you I travelled a lot but stayed well within the rules

I know they have a record because the CBP actually said to me 'wow you visit us a lot'

I guess if you act like an idiot at the desk (as some people do) you may black mark yourself

I saw a drunk Brit in Vegas refused a flight as he was rude and obnoxious

  7. I travelled backwards and forwards on an esta while dating my now wife, I got married on my esta

I tried to visit every 6 weeks to 2 monthly

I stopped for 4 weeks sometimes, If I could work my shift patterns and vacation right

The only 'tie' I travelled with was my return ticket

Questions asked by CBP varied, what job do you do, where are you staying, do you like the USA, your girlfriend must be worth visiting, how long are you staying

Respond to the questions with truth and honesty

I was never taken into secondary, and was always wished a hearty welcome

It got to a point that I knew the security guy at the Virgin check in
