  1. US Supreme Court allows Trump to strip protections from some Venezuelans; deportations could follow WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Trump administration to strip legal protections from 350,000 Venezuelans, potentially exposing them to deportation. The court's order, with only one noted dissent, puts on hold a ruling from a federal judge in San Francisco that kept in place Temporary Protected Status for the Venezuelans that would have otherwise expired last month. The justices provided no rationale, which is common in emergency appeals. The status allows people already in the United States to live and work legally because their native countries are deemed unsafe for return due to natural disaster or civil strife. A federal appeals court had earlier rejected the administration's request to put the order on hold while the lawsuit continues. more at https://abc7.com/post/venezuela-news-us-supreme-court-allows-trump-strip-tps-venezuelans-deportations-could-follow/16471064/

  6. COMANCHE, Texas (KWTX) - Three rodeo horses considered to be like “family” to the owners were killed during an attack from Africanized bees, the Comanche Volunteer Fire Department said in a social media post. On Friday, May 9, the Comanche VFD responded to a call about bees attacking horses on FM 590. First responders said the owners of the horses sustained numerous bee stings while attempting to move the horses away from the attacking swarm. Comanche County EMS arrived on scene and quickly took the two owners into the ambulance. Firefighters arrived on scene with a brush truck. Comanche VFD says one of the firefighters and one of the horse owners put on protective bee suits to get to the wounded horses. In addition, soap was added to the firetruck’s water tank and the horses were sprayed with soapy water in an attempt to stop the bees. more at https://www.kwtx.com/2025/05/13/three-beloved-rodeo-horses-killed-due-bee-attack-owners-stung-according-comanche-vfd/ comanche is about a 2 hour drive sw from fort worth.

  8. A Hollywood veteran best known for his role in the 1996 comedy "Happy Gilmore" died Sunday, May 11, nearly 30 years after the film's release. The Colorado Gators Reptile Park, an exotic animal sanctuary, confirmed the news of the retired movie star's death on Facebook, writing that they were "sad to report the passing away of our oldest alligator, Morris." Morris appeared in a variety of other films and television shows from 1975 to 2006, including "Dr. Dolittle 2," "Interview with the Vampire," "Eraser," "Night Court" and "Blues Brothers 2000," before retiring to the reptile park. He also made a cameo appearance with Steve Irwin on "The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno." more at https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2025/05/13/happy-gilmore-alligator-morris-dies/83606127007/

  10. well that was quick. Parkland survivor David Hogg to be ousted from DNC following investigation into his election A Democratic National Committee panel has found that gun control activist David Hogg and a colleague were not properly elected to be among its five vice chairs earlier this year, paving the way for their removal. Hogg, 25, rose to national prominence after surviving the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018, and co-founding March for Our Lives. He has since become a vocal political commentator, critical of President Donald Trump and the Democratic Party’s failure to earn the trust of the electorate. Hogg made waves last month by announcing that his new organization, Leaders We Deserve, co-founded with Kevin Lata – the former campaign manager of Florida Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost, the first Gen-Z member of Congress – intends to support primary challengers to “out-of-touch, ineffective” House Democrats occupying safe congressional seats that, it believes, have not done enough to oppose the Trump administration. more at https://www.yahoo.com/news/parkland-survivor-david-hogg-ousted-132014456.html

  15. CNN — The acting administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been fired one day after he broke with fellow members of the administration when he told lawmakers he does not support dismantling the agency, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed to CNN. Cameron Hamilton, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, was escorted out of FEMA’s headquarters on Thursday, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. “It’s at the discretion of (Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem) to have the personnel she prefers,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told CNN, confirming that DHS official David Richardson will take over for Hamilton effective immediately. McLaughlin declined to explain why Hamilton was removed from the post. The move comes one day after Hamilton defended FEMA during testimony in front of the House Appropriations Committee. more at https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/08/politics/fema-administrator-acting-fired-cameron-hamilton
  16. India says military stations attacked by Pakistan drones and missiles JAMMU, India/ISLAMABAD, May 8 (Reuters) - Blasts rang out across the Indian city of Jammu late on Thursday during what the government said was a Pakistani drone and missile attack on military stations around the Kashmir region on the second day of clashes between the nuclear-armed neighbours. Sirens sounded and red flashes and projectiles erupted in the night sky above Jammu for about 2-1/2 hours, a Reuters journalist said, in what appeared to be an escalation in the countries' worst confrontation in more than two decades. Two days of fighting have killed nearly four dozen people. "Military stations at Jammu, Pathankot & Udhampur were targeted by Pakistani-origin drones and missiles along the international border in J&K today," India's Ministry of Defence said on X, citing places in and near the federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir. "The threats were swiftly neutralised .... No casualties or material losses were reported." more at https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/blast-heard-pakistans-lahore-amid-tensions-with-india-say-geo-news-reuters-2025-05-08/
  17. India has launched a major military operation against Pakistan in a major escalation of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The missile strikes early Wednesday morning targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and Pakistan administered-Kashmir, according to India. Pakistan has denied the claim, saying the attack largely harmed civilians – killing at least three, including a child, and injuring at least a dozen. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the country had the right to respond to what he described as an “act of war,” adding that a “befitting reply is being given.” Kashmir is one of the world’s most dangerous flashpoints and is controlled in part by India and Pakistan but both countries claim it in its entirety. Relations between India and Pakistan have cratered in recent weeks following a deadly rampage by gunmen who murdered 26 people, the majority Indian tourists, at a scenic spot in Kashmir. more at https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/06/asia/india-pakistan-kashmir-conflict-hnk-intl
  18. Vicki Stuart, a 64-year-old former postal worker, admitted in a plea agreement Monday to engaging in identity theft and forgery in the 2024 presidential election. The accused admitted in court to one count each of theft and forgery, Colorado Public Radio report. Authorities charged Stuart with 34 counts in connection to a ballot theft scheme. Stuart and another woman allegedly stole over a dozen ballots in Mesa County before they could be delivered to their intended recipients and fraudulently cast them. “I feel like I am guilty for the part that I played in it,” Stuart told Judge Brian Flynn about why she accepted the plea deal. Both of the counts she pleaded guilty to were felonies. more at https://dailycaller.com/2025/05/06/colorado-ex-postal-worker-vicki-stuart-2024-electoral-fraud-plea-agreement/
  19. Foreign Aid Official Who Resisted DOGE Took Secret Payments After Steering Africa Money To Friend A foreign aid official who refused the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to his agency’s financial records may have had a reason to keep auditors out: he steered illicit contracts to a friend who sent him secret payments, according to a law enforcement affidavit obtained by The Daily Wire. Mathieu Zahui, chief financial officer of the African Development Foundation, refused to grant DOGE access to its books and told the White House that the agency would not acknowledge President Donald Trump’s appointee as chairman of the board. After a dramatic showdown in March, DOGE physically took over the building with U.S. Marshals, but control of the agency is now the subject of a lawsuit objecting to “swooping in with DOGE staff, demanding access to sensitive information systems” — an objection that reads differently in light of the criminal probe. For years, workers at the small, USAID-adjacent federal agency focused on Africa have told oversight bodies about allegations of self-dealing, procurement violations, and mysterious offshore bank accounts, many of them involving Zahui. But little was done about it, several told The Daily Wire. more at https://www.dailywire.com/news/foreign-aid-official-who-resisted-doge-took-secret-payments-after-steering-africa-money-to-friend
  20. and the us army is discovering that going green means mission failure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chilling effects: What one Army unit learned about cold-weather drone warfare Frozen propellers and short-lived batteries are just some of the challenges these grunts faced during training in Europe. If small drones are critical to the Army’s future fight, what happens when you run out of batteries? That’s one of the questions the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team tackled during a recent rotation at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Germany. “We learned a lot of lessons about battery power. For example, the exercise that we conducted was in the wintertime in Germany, so it was below freezing conditions and pretty adverse weather conditions. And what we found was battery life was significantly degraded in the cold and affected the flight time and the ability of us to employ some of our drones,” 3rd Brigade commander Col. Joshua Glonek told reporters Friday. The Army gave the brigade more than 150 unmanned aerial systems, from sensor drones to one-way attack munitions. Form factors ranged from small quadcopters to medium-range reconnaissance drones that can weigh up to 50 pounds and fly 10 kilometers. Seeking to get “a good sense of what drones were able to do,” Glonek said, the unit flew in heavy cloud cover, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Propellers iced over. Some drones broke and needed repairs. Others crashed. And the freezing temperatures would cut flight times in half, Glonek told Defense One. more at https://www.defenseone.com/defense-systems/2025/05/chilling-effects-what-one-army-unit-learned-about-cold-weather-drone-warfare/405072/
