"She says she's being made the scapegoat because she wrote the directive..." no, she wrote bad policy and was taken to task for it.

to put things in perspective: According to the United Nations, there are 195 recognised countries in the world. Currently, 33 nations (plus two territories) around the world have jus soli, or unrestricted, birthright citizenship. or just under 17% of those countries. so it's not really an outlandish idea. the usa and canada are the only two for the most developed countries in the world to have this.

from newsweek on Feb 02, 2024 "The issue is a $150.7 billion one, shared between federal and state governments, and that's just one year." https://www.newsweek.com/illegal-immigration-costs-us-billions-biden-administration-policy-impact-taxpayer-burden-1866555

i fully agree. illegal workers work for less and undercut wages for those usc's with few skills (the young, the poor, etc) and the amount of money sent out of the us back to their home countries is staggering. for all the noise i hear about a "living wage" it seems odd that the same who make noise about it are often the same who want sanctuary cities, thus having their cake and eating it too. a search on google showed that "Some estimate that undocumented workers send $70 billion back to their home countries each year. Some news reports estimate that about 10% of remittances sent to Mexico in 2022 could have come from illegal activity."
