  6. A United Nations judge has been convicted of forcing a young woman to work as a slave. Prosecutors said Lydia Mugambe "took advantage of her status" over her victim by preventing her from holding down steady employment while forcing her to work as her maid and provide childcare for free. The 49-year-old, who is also a High Court judge in Uganda, was found guilty of conspiring to facilitate the commission of a breach of UK immigration law, facilitating travel with a view to exploitation, forcing someone to work, and conspiracy to intimidate a witness. She will be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on May 2. In footage released by Thames Valley Police, Mugambe appeared shocked when an officer said he was arresting her under the Modern Slavery Act. She then had a conversation with the officer, in which she said: "I am a judge in my country, I even have immunity. I am not a criminal." more at https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn892zq6z43o

  9. A furious Tennessee husband has been accused of stabbing to death an 18-year-old boy he found in bed with his wife. Jonathan Belk, 41, is accused of killing Billy Jean Floyd early Saturday after coming home and finding the teen with his 31-year-old wife, Jada Gholston, who was also hospitalized with several stab wounds, police told News Channel 9. The body of Floyd — who had turned 18 just three days earlier — was found stuffed in a garbage can in his mistress’s home in Dunlap. more at https://nypost.com/2025/03/12/us-news/husband-allegedly-killed-18-year-old-in-bed-with-his-wife/ pics of the husband and the "victim" in the article above. pic of the wife (below) from fb
  10. A federal appeals court has tossed an Amarillo woman's death sentence after it found that local prosecutors had failed to reveal that their primary trial witness was a paid informant. With a 2-1 decision, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals last week sent Brittany Marlowe Holberg's 1998 murder conviction back down to the trial court to decide how to proceed. Holberg has been on death row for 27 years. In securing her conviction in 1998, Randall County prosecutors heavily relied on testimony from a jail inmate who was working as a confidential informant for the City of Amarillo police. That informant recanted her testimony in 2011, but neither a Texas Court of Criminal Appeals or a federal district court found that prosecutors had violated Holberg's constitutional right to a fair trial. The appeals court disagreed, saying that the informant was critical to the jury's determination of guilt and that the prosecution violated Holberg's due process rights by hiding information that, according to a landmark U.S. Supreme court ruling called the Brady doctrine, must be disclosed. Writing for the majority, judge Patrick E. Higginbotham cast Holberg's case as a blight on the criminal justice system. more at https://www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-death-row-brittany-holberg-conviction-reversed-federal-appeals-court/

  19. US and Ukraine call for 30-day ceasefire following Saudi talks LONDON -- The United States and Ukraine are calling for a 30-day ceasefire, subject to the acceptance of Russia, following talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The U.S. will also "immediately lift" its pause on intelligence sharing and "resume security assistance to Ukraine," the countries said in a joint statement. The U.S. and Ukraine "took important steps toward restoring durable peace for Ukraine," the statement said. "Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation," the statement said. "The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace." more at https://abcnews.go.com/International/us-ukraine-difficult-things-rubio-ahead-saudi-ceasefire/story?id=119659791

The U.S. ship was identified as the Stena Immaculate, while the Portuguese-flagged container ship was identified as the Solong. Both ships sustained significant damage and were abandoned by their crews. Thirty-six people between the two ships were safely brought to shore, with one person transported to a hospital, the U.K. coast guard said.
