Hi Everyone,

I am filing the form I-130 for my widowed father.
I will appreciate help from anyone regarding how to answer the following questions:

Part 4 INFORMATION ABOUT BENEFICIARY
- BENEFICIARY'S MARITAL INFORMATION: 19 - Date of Current Marriage ( if currently married ) - Should I put my parent's date of marriage or simply put N/ A?
- PLACE OF BENEFICIARY'S CURRENT MARRIAGE: (if married) 20a - 20d. - Should I just leave this blank or N/A?
- NAME OF BENEFICIARY'S SPOUSES (if any) - Should I list my mom's name on current spouse since she's the only spouse of my dad or just leave the first space blank then list her on second space for a prior spouse?
- INFORMATION ABOUT BENEFICIARY'S FAMILY: Provide information about the beneficiary's spouse and children. Do I have to list my deceased mom here as well?

Do I also have to submit my mom's death certificate?

Thanks for the question. I was about to start a topic about this one too but found yours. Quick question, do you also need to submit I-130 form or just I-864? I'm also planning to petition my father as well and currently am unemployrd but my husband will co-sponsor. Thanks!

Thank you for the info. Like OP, I am also planning to petition my father in the Philippines. I currently don't have income too so I need my husband's support as well. Quick question, do I have to file the form I-130 too or just I-864 and I-864A since my husband will co-sponsor? Thank you in advance.

Aside from your phone bill and bank account, bring all your pictures together, your marriage certificate/license, plane tickets that you bought together, bank statements (are you an authorized user on her bank? you could use that too. I called the bank and asked for a letter stating that), and you may also add 2 personal letters coming from a friend and relative that they know you guys having a bonafide marriage but it is just supplemental. Hope this helps.

When I first looked at my timeline online it also estimated my case completion to be 8 months then when I checked again it changed into 4 months so I think it depends when the IO in charge on your case already finished checking on it ( I think) since I filed April then had my interview August 31 then the upcoming oath ceremony will be on Sept 20. I agree. We’ve tried to use a lawyer too during my previous K1 process and it turned out that he put the incorrect info on my form ( the amount to put on the check) which led to return the packet I have. When I found this site I did everything since then - from AOS, ROC and N400.

Pros of not having a lawyer is it will save you tons of money and time believe me especially if your case is pretty straightforward. All your resources can be found on this site. Best of luck!

OP, know that from now on you both will need to keep EVERY single piece of evidence for future immigration path... AOS, ROC and N400. The journey does not stop here.

I agree when you said it doesn’t stop from K1 process as you’ll need every evidence you have from this process until N400. What I meant and forgot to say is that affidavits with friends or relatives that is “notarized” would help too ( you cannot fake it since a friend or relative need to be in front of a notary official to sign). I had affidavits with notary on it. I believe it helps on my case. But of course, it’s not just that, pictures do matters a lot too. Wish OP the best.

I agreed on what others said that pictures are important. I remember my IO asked about it and let me show it to her at the interview at one point. I think Affidavits of your mutual friends and relatives would also help, also emails if you have deleted any text messages. A spouse visa would also be your next option as I have friends too who went through spouse visa and it’s processing is not that hard. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I just had my citizenship interview last August 31 and got approved. I brought all the original copies of what I submitted during the N400 process including our son’s birth certificate and marriage certificate, plus of course, interview letter and green card. The IO didn’t ask any of the certificates at all just my gc and that’s it. But I really feel at peace if I bring every paperwork I have just in case the IO ask for it I’m prepared Best of luck! I also suggest that you listen to the audio of 100 civic questions. That really helps a lot on my part as I listened to it every day If you can, just ride a subway ( either red line then the green line on Gov't center or orange line Haymarket since it's walking distance from the Boston office ). The parking are expensive Wish you the best!

You might need to eat first before going there since there's a little delay on my end like I waited for almost 2 hours. After we finished on the civic questions, yes or no questions and writing + reading test, he asked me questions like where do I currently live right now and ask my complete address, how old is my kid, did I leave the country during my N400 application process, my current phone number, where do I work. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I got approved on my citizenship interview today 😊 Big thanks to visajourney and to all those who shared their experiences here even way back from K1 visa, AOS, ROC and now Citizenship interview

Sharing my experience today too before I forget.So my schedule was 8:45 am today here in Boston under 3 year rule and luckily my husband accompanied me today since his work is flexible. We came in around 8 am and of course the same routine , checking all bags while I brought my interview letter, green card and all my papers with the original copy. We waited for almost 2 hours since the IO in charge on my case is quite backlog but it’s okay I was able to review more civic exam questions and read through my application one more time. After, the IO called my name and my husband walked with me through the IO and the IO asked me who he was and I said he’s my husband and so he told my husband just to wait for me outside and it’s good he acknowledged him though.

While on his office, I stand and swear with my right hand to say nothing but the truth then we began by first asking my green card , letting me look at the camera and do some index fingerprinting. After that, he started asking me the civic questions at least 7 items (since I missed one question) , as well as reading one sentence and writing one sentence and that’s it he said I passed. 😊 After that, he went out then came back again then just asked a series of questions such as the yes or no questions then after some personal background questions. He said I’ll be receiving a letter regarding the Oath Ceremony sometime in September after 7 to 10 business days. And then he said congratulations! 😊

I’m sorry to hear that. At least all is well and you’ll get your correct card in about two weeks.

You can take the 2-year gc if you still have it for your biometrics.

My 10-year hadn’t arrived yet and I did my biometrics for the N400 with the expired green card. They didn’t say anything or even asked to see the extension letter.

Unfortunately, I’m one of them. So , here’s a part of the letter I received from the mail yesterday,

“On May 14, 2018, USCIS began recalling approximately 8,543 Permanent Resident Cards (also known as Green Cards) due to a production error. The Green Cards were for approved Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions of Residence for spouses of U.S. citizens. The cards were printed with an incorrect “Resident Since” date and mailed between February and April 2018.”

The problem is I’ll be having my biometrics for N400 next week and I need the green card so I emailed them and they’ve been very responsive and apologetic which is good. They also said I can give the green card on the uscis office instead of mailing since I’ll be at the biometrics. Ugh 😑 Anyone affected too?

I know right ?! That’s crazy! The good thing is they’ve been very apologetic and responsive. Also, our status wouldn’t change and they’ll be giving us a new card in three weeks span. But I can only imagine the $$ they’ll be spending on it.

Same here. I received the mail yesterday too and then I email their email stated on their letter right away since I’ll be having my biometrics for naturalization next week. So here’s part of the letter below;

Sent: Date N-400 was mailed to USCIS.
Cashd: Date your check was cashed / credit card was

charged by USCIS.
NOA: Receipt Notice Date Printed on your official I-797 notification.
Fprints: Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you will have the N-400 interview
