Then if what she said is true, why even bother being able to check your online status if it's inaccurate, means nothing and is usually not even updated? It just gives people more frustration and false hope.
-
I just called the 1-800 USCIS mis-information line to get a status on my pending case since the processing date for my district office is over 30 days past my receipt date for my I-485. After waiting for over 1 hour I spoke to an office who advised me that basically the district office processing dates are INVALID for the family based I-485 and should not even be used. That I-485's are taking anywhere from 24-48 months to process and that many FBI name checks are taking up to 1 year to come back. But then also said that name checks often come back withing 120 days after the interview??? She also told me that 'touches' on your case can mean absolutely nothing at all. And that an officer is not at all obligated to update your online status message or even send you an email....and most don't. She did claim to be able to check a few different systems to see if my case was approved and said that it had not yet, so basically the 2 touches that I've had on my I-485 in the last week mean nothing?! UGH...I am more confused and frustrated now than I was before....

I was just wondering if anyone had an idea how long it could take after the approval of a pending case to receive the approval email from USCIS or for the online status message to change?
-
No, there is no change in the message yet, nor have I received an email, but I've read that for some people it has taken a few days to have a change in the message and/or an email sent to them. But since 07/11/06 I've had a 2nd touch on my I-485 and on my I-130, so I hope it is good news.

In fact, my AOS was touched yesterday, 07/16/06...both the I-485 and
I-130 (which was approved in May). So I am really hoping that it is a sign of very good things to come!!!

CONGRATULATIONS Kezzie! I am so happy for you! Finally your long wait is over!!!

Last week I wrote that my pending AOS case was finally touched on 07/11/06. It is pending due to the FBI name check. Well this morning I checked the online status again and noticed that the I-485 was touched again yesterday, as well as the I-130, which was approved in May. Although the messages are still the same. I'm not sure why an application that has already been approved (I-130) would be touched again, but I am hoping that all of these recent touches mean that something very good is about to happen.

Congratulations on finally getting an approval. This just goes to show that nobody should ever sit and wait for long periods of time for something to be done to their case. Taking some type of action is definitely the way to go!!!

All the best of luck to you in getting this issue resolved!!!

I agree with John and Marlene!

All the best of luck to everyone who has an interview this week! It is very normal to be nervous, but as long as you have everything on your checklist and a little extra if you can, you will be fine.

I checked my online status again this morning (as I do multiple times a day...lol) and this time both my I-485 and I-130 (which was already approved) were touched yesterday on 07/16/06. One touch could be random, but 2 touches back to back sounds very positive to me!!!!

In my opinion it is always a good sign when anything is done to your case, that way at least you know it is not "stuck" somewhere. All the best of luck in getting a speedy approval!!

I didn't apply for AP because I 'overstayed' my visitor status before we applied for my AOS and it was highly suggested to us for this reason not to apply. I guess we could run into some problems at the border on our way back into the U.S., so I'd rather not take any chances. I wouldn't be as frustrated or worried if I had my AP or EAD.

Thank you! All the best of luck to you as well!!!

Congratulations on finally getting approved!!!

One major underyling point that a few have mentionned, is that this is a website for those who are going thru or have already been thru the immigration process in one way or another and are seeking help, advice or simply support from others. In my opinion it all goes back to a little advice that my mother has given to me and I'm sure many of you have heard the same "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". The truth is that most of us don't know each other personally, so we have no right to judge anyone. All the best of luck to you Luiz with this whole situation and please know that there will ALWAYS be people here that you can talk to.

I know that there are many people who have waited longer than I have and I do have deep sympathy for them. But I also know that many who have been waiting a long time have not contacted anyone or done anything and are stuck waiting for something to happen. Everyone has a right to deal with their case the way that they want to and I totally respect that, but I refuse to just sit and wait. The processing date for Buffalo is about 10 days short of being over the 30 days for me and is about to change soon, so I am just being proactive. I choose to at least keep my case familiar to those who matter, even if nothing else comes from it. I also know that it can take a while for those such as the Senator and the First Lady to actually get back to me and by the time that they do, it will likely be just in time. I haven't seen most of my large family in about 2 years, I've missed a few very special family events and I have a few close relatives who are deathly ill, so I am trying to do what I can. It helps me to feel like I am at least a little bit in control. All the best to you and Wes, and everyone else who is at the mercy of USCIS.

We mad my AOS Interview on 05/11/06 and it was 'sort-of approved', but pending the famous FBI name check. Since then I have written to my Senator, the First Lady and called USCIS, with no results. But on 07/11/06 I noticed that my I-485 was 'touched' and I wonder what this could mean? Prior to that, it had not been touched since 04/06/06. The actual status of my case has not changed yet, I have not received an email or anything in the mail. What a tease....this is driving me CRAZY!!!!

You've contacted a congressman which is great, but I have also contacted my Senator, the First Lady and will soon contact the DHS Ombudsman. This way, you are certain that your case is being kept familiar to those that matter.
