I was rather surprised when Mrs. T-B.-to-be arrived with one smallish suitcase, albeit extremely heavy. She figured that she could buy clothes here. Little did she know how right she was -- within a few weeks, she'd filled our closet (her half and part of mine) with apparel bought at stores' deep-discount sales, resale shops, and garage/moving sales. (The concepts of garage sales and resale shops are unknown in Ecuador, and she was amazed at the quality of "gringo stuff" that people sell.)
Accordingly, I think that your plan is sensible: bring stuff for the upcoming season(s) and replace or retrieve your other clothes later.

Non stop , international flight for $150 is firesale price. Holding out for better at this point would be greedy. When you get dealt a black jack you take it, you dont doubledown
have you vetted the policies for all the air carriers? Your OP seems to resolve all the risk @ SWA, at most you're paying what a typical fare is. If you can do that at every airline and think < $150 for some last second deal? How much cheaper do you think you could realistically get? I've got plenty of other things to do. My time is worth more than the time/energy to vet all those.

I'd do this differently and not after the college. K1 is the perfect choice as she can come on K2 visa with her mother and do AOS, get AP and then re-entry permit after she has the GC. Schooling is perfectly acceptable reason for re-entry permit and absence out of the country.

Folks, the necessary information for the AOS process is in the Guides and in other threads in this forum; the monthly "case filing & progress" threads are in the subforum of that name. Obviously, everyone's intentions are good; however, the support and answers to the concerns expressed so far are readily available elsewhere, and in more organized form than the manner in which this thread is progressing. Please read and absorb the existing material, and return to post specific questions only if you honestly can't locate an answer otherwise. Thanks for understanding these reasons for this thread's closure.

As stated in the page header, those are times based on direct feedback from VJ members timelines. so ppl like IDY and others whome update their times can help render the data trend/stats for everyone to know vs posts such as this when people are worried about being off track. You can see the differences from diff countries and Service Centers. VJ has a lot of rich data / info already baked in.

heo luoi got a reaction from Hypnos in Do I need a lawyer?
As always getting professional legal services is something that really shouldn't be deterred so hastily.
It really depends on everyones case/status situation. Standard cases very likely shouldnt require unless you really need hand holding w/ the documentation (procurement and fulfillment).
Unless you want more help, particularly a more difficult embassy/consulate
Also not really sure why people imply the Immigration process is so so expensive? Honestly Im grateful I've saved...etc. But something like adoption is prohibitively expensive. Aside from travel, the fees are pretty reasonable when i think how many govt people are involved (not necessarily needed but those people all get paid). I just could see it a lot worse.
The fees are clear and up front and there's not surprise services charges or nickel and diming. If you are prepared and save for it, I think gives perspective. But to be surprised by it doesnt mean its 'expensive'. A car engine breaking down is expensive cause its unexpected/unplanned. If a lawyer can save you time, effort, money, RFEs, trolling VJ....it could certainly be worth to some.
When you think how much opportunity here is in the States, better opportunity for wages, $700-$1000 of processing fees seems like a deal to me.

    1. You can be your own translator. Just type up a piece of paper certifying that you are proficient in English and Vietnamese and attest that the translation is accurate and to the best of your knowledge. Then sign below and have it notarized.
    2. It means you are either member of the Communist Party or affiliated with one. Being a VN citizen does not mean you are a member of the Party, unless you sign up to be one

I used to hit the Messages pane and then manually click up the 'old' archived (not -the- archive) , then Highlight SHIFT scroll select all messages. This would seem to not work anymore the past few times I have tried,
Now I use the 'mobile' page via PC, m.facebook.com and this seems to still work.
You can also request a full download of your FB activity via FB directly but the way the data dump comes up the conversations are not chronologically sequenced correctly in my opinion.

Have you reviewed the guide/ process at all at least to have some familiarity of the process?
Income is as in your personal income, that gets taxed by the government you need to be over a limit determined by the govt. This would have nothing to do w/ RapidVisa or any other service. I imagine a service like RapidVisa should clearly outline the fees/costs themselves.
If your OP is based purely on fees, I have no idea how much RV costs and what they may include or not in their services. Theres incidentals like printing/shipping/tracking but thats really not that much relative to everything. Fees for filing and the medical ~$6-700

I wonder to what extent those of you with lots of professional experience tried reaching out to professional recruiters to have them help you with the job search? You don't have to pay them, they get paid by the potential employer once you successfully get the job. Also to what extent have you tailored your resume to the US market and the employer? I have seen resumes from Europe and Asia, they can look quite different and emphasize different aspects. Further, many recruiters use key word searches, if your resume doesn't contain such key words, you might be missing out. In general, it's also beneficial to customize your resume to the position/company you're applying for, you do the thinking for the recruiter by telling them why you are the best fit. Just having general facts about your experience is not as convincing as how such experience could benefit them in the long run.
In the interest of information sharing, I work for a large company and there are definitely a lot of labor laws that come into play when HR recruit candidates for open positions. One of the elements is that we're suppose to report statistics on who the candidates are e.g. race, gender etc. apparently, this is one way to monitor employers to make sure that people from different backgrounds are being considered for open positions. A few years ago, there was also this rule that if you open an application from an applicant, then the employer is obligated to consider that person (not necessarily interview), if you do not, then you're in violation of EEO rules, so if there are too many applicants for one position, some of the applications are not even reviewed.
    Cheers

I'm curious as to why this was kept a secret until you were ready to board. When the women handed you the child's passport and said "please, please, please" what was the reason why they wanted you to take this child? Why wouldn't they have asked you ahead of time? Alarm bells and red flags are clearly present. Did she have luggage? A return ticket? What was said to the officers at customs and immigration when you re-entered the country? Don't tell me they didn't ask either because I've stood in plenty of immigration lines watching the process of people talking to the immigration officers and they always talk to the children present too.

No one is going to tell you to buy it, but that's a nice price. Can you cancel and rebook if you don't get it in time? If not, are you willing to eat that 211 if you don't have the visa in hand on that date?
Orbitz lets you cancel a flight up to the day before and you can rebook as long as it's the same person and airline....only 30 dollar charge. I did what you are doing because the price difference was 900 dollars. We didn't end up having to switch but it would have cost us only 30 bucks and the ticket difference.
    All depends on you.

Assume not transferrable or sellable? Certainly a risk as to when visa will be in hand / issued. If you cant eat (i think $300USD) or worse the ($600+300), I wouldn't do it quite simply.

Well I can appreciate that Boiler, I guess my point is the best part of VJ is the camaraderie. I think alot of VJ users are probably clustered to some specific areas for sure.
For some people to get help in all the NOISE of LInkedIN, would be difficult. IMO
But for some guy to just say hey I got something, I know what its like, 'My parents were refugees, my wife was an immigrant'....I'd like to give back a little. Give me a ring, would be a lot easier on VJ. Hey my mom will watch your kids on Wed in Nowhere, USA...etc. Our my restaurant needs a server on the weekends, tell your high schooler to come see me....
Helping w/ the paperwork is great and all and VJ is an amazing resource just thinking of stretching utility out IRL a little bit. Just an idea, I meant absolutely zero malice nor jacking of any thread.

Like I said I'm very familiar w/ LinkedIN. It is for professionals. I hardly think a job forum for odd jobs on VJ would be the worse thing ever. Theres tons of useless threads and rehashed threads on VJ. If I said hey I'm willing to have someone help me w/ this project or my company needs a good EE, how is that so harmful.? If I could find a odd job/project my fiance could line up and get feet under her that'd be good. Thats not what LI is for nor good at.
OP why do you keep acting so jaded. If the opportunities aren't here, there are other places to go. Can't expect jobs to just come to you...or get all ostracized after just 2 mos.

VJ=VisaJourney, sorry. Yeah I guess I meant more for local people, those maybe that embrace the immigrant experience more. Less professional/career jobs (no offense meant,) but LinkedIn is a pretty specific crowd. People like my parents (before linked in) and my fiance, I dont think would get a lot of utility from something like LinkedIn

Agree w/ Anh Map, and theres 1000s and 1000s of kids graduating all the time you have to compete w/ too. They may work cheaper than an experienced/seasoned professional. Market is tight and can vary widely on area. 2mos is nothing. I wouldnt think its the best time of year for openings either with the end of summer.

    Hello everyone,
So I'm in the U.S. now and the wedding took place on Friday. Believe or not, the CBP officer in Montreal did not enter my complete first name on my I-94 and now I have to get that sorted out before I proceed with my AOS...
Anyways it's been a whirlwind and I'm thankful for the community here. I hope this thread has been helpful, or at least has shed some light on what possibly could happen with an expired petition and a very uncooperative CBP agent. Although none of this should have happened to begin with, I hope that the steps I took to resolve this situation can help someone else in the future should it happen to him/her. To recap what I did:
    - Contacted the consulate that issued my visa in the most direct manner possible
    - Went in person to have my visa reissued and my package resealed (another option I was given was to mail my documents in)
    - Left out of a different POE
    - Filed a congressional complaint
