Romet reacted to Smelserjl in Cairo folks waiting for interview
Praise God, my husband's interview was today at 7:30AM and our case was accepted! He got a paper saying it would take 2 weeks but possibly more to get the visa and if it takes longer than 2 weeks, he should call a phone number. I asked him to scan or take a pic of the paper so I can take a look.
We'll write up a review of the Embassy this weekend but basically he said the interview lasted less than 5 minutes. He said the CO who conducted the interview was the same woman who stamped our marriage affidavit in the Embassy the day we got married last year. She asked about 3 questions: how did you meet, tell me about her family, and where did you get married.
I am elated. I was anxious and crying off and on yesterday because I was so worried.
Without VJ and this community, we couldn't have done it. We were overprepared with papers and forms and copies, but better to have more than needed than not enough.
He said it definitely seemed like she had already made a decision really before he even spoke. I can't stress enough how important creating your relationship story can be. I made a timeline in a Word doc and put important dates including every visit I ever made to him (5 in Egypt, and we met in Jordan once), screen captures of important moments on Facebook including discussions with family members, pictures during trips, etc.
You have to have the story to be convincing, thus leaving yourself with very basic questions like we had.
Good luck everyone, Will keep you posted when visa is in hand.

Got it! so glad I checked with you guys. we will have to forego the Columbian reception.

Romet reacted to DavidBoston in Marrying in beneficiary's country before K-1 interview
ok. So I just googled it and I don't know why I thought that if you were legally married in one country it did not mean you are legally married in another country. I was totally wrong on that assumption.
I'm pretty new to all this immigration stuff and marriage. Thanks again for all the replies.

Wow. Thanks so much for the advice. Somehow I thought that because we would be getting married in a foreign country and not the US, it would not affect the K-1. But I guess I was wrong. Thanks again.

Well, you will no longer be eligible for a K1 visa as you are already married and will have to start the process for a CR-1 visa all over again.

That's ridiculous. I dont see how they can keep passports that long. What happens if you need it?

Romet got a reaction from Cathi in I wouldn't post on here to save my life
When my fiance and I first got on here.... my fiance (beneficiary) asked what WE thought was a legitimate question about our red flags and how do deal with them (MENA countries are notorious for being very difficult consulates) and were put THROUGH THE RINGER.... I was IN SHOCK reading the assumptions of replies even telling him they thought he was "suspicious" for even asking the question(s).... We were new to the entire process and literally were looking for some help/guidance as we had NO IDEA what to expect. We thought this WOULD be the perfect place to inquire about those types of questions.
In the end, we WERE approved and ultimately only followed a very "general" advice of "tell our story" in the interview.
What we learned is to expect anything here...

Just as with anything in life, FB, Instagram, Twitter, etc...you can find drama and participate in it if you like that kind of thing. For myself, I have found an abundance of valuable information on this site, good friends I talk to outside of this site, and much needed support. I don't gossip or do drama. Those things can be easily avoided.
It's about personal choice. Some choose to ask relationship advice, others do not. I read that thread. What was said doesn't bother me, it's their personal choice not to post things of a personal nature on this site. The OP poster of that comment stated that he would only ask questions of a procedural nature. Totally their decision.

Problem I see is people try to read too much into the questions or try to find out too much. Sometimes information is needed to provide a correct answer....but.....sometimes people just go off in a way that is not related to the questions. For example, if a person asked how to obtain a divorce one should not respond with criticism of them divorcing or that they need to work on the marriage.

Romet reacted to TabeaK in Question about Igor's list for TSC.
I have taken to messaging people when they show up on Igor's list as approved in a TSC-impossible time frame in the last few months. I must have contacted a couple dozen by now - all of them were actually at CSC and the vast majority was kind enough to correct their timeline.

Romet reacted to j&ana in Partially through the K-1 visa. How to move to the CR1?
I do not know about the Tobago and Trinidad embassy. but if you are just waiting on the interview you should at least do the interview before you change to the cr-1 visa. Has more then one person told you that the embassy will not accept a joint sponsor? Have you done more research yourself? I am sure you have already waited a long time do you really want to start over with out at least trying to get the K-1 visa approve?

As others have said this section of the forum attracts drama and that draws people in like moths to a flame.
Some people definitely overshare, we've all seen the train wreck threads that are like a chat show and reached for the
Sometimes people want to jump in and judge people when all they are asking for is a bit of help with their situation, for example the one earlier where advice was wanted for a divorce and people unnecessarily berated the poster without managing to offer her the advice she wanted. That is the internet, its not going to stop and all the mods can do is delete posts with bickering in and where people breach the TOS.
It would be nicer if people were less judgmental in this section, especially where someone is in a bad situation and just needs fast and accurate advice but if you are going to post in here you are going to get people going through your personal life with a fine tooth comb and people should be aware of that before posting. If I have ever any issues with my relationship I will not be asking for advice in this section, that's for sure

Romet reacted to Saffer in I wouldn't post on here to save my life
I think this site is an excellent resource, I have learnt alot here. That being said, any online community is going to attract some "fighting" amongst some members. I only formally joined recently but I was coming here now and again to look up topics. I do think that spending too much time here can drive one a little bit crazy, especially because everyone's case is different and people get upset when comparing timelines and so on.

It's also way too monitored, a forum should be open for discussion. This is a communistic forum, anyone coming online for information has to be aware of the source. Anyone that has done anything with the government or law knows there are a whole lot of grey areas. This site deals too much in black and white and because of that a lot of people will suffer.

My husband hates this site. he is the US Citizen. Thinks it's too negative and drama filled. Hates it when he sees me on it. I like reading this board because it's like watching daytime television. Also tells me what not to do.
