  1. mine took 7 days from approval at embassy on the Tuesday to having it in my hands the following Tuesday. we got confirmation it was on its way on MOnday so booked the flights for Friday. Mine was K1/K2. but im sure yours will follow same timelines. Im sure youll make it across before Christmas. Good luck and safe travels.

  2. hi

used trans-global express, an extra suitcase , hold luggage to maximum.

I was coming with 11 year old daughter so had toys, teddies books, school stuff pictures.

the extra suitcase cost me 20, plus 45 at airport for excess bag( 23kg) plus two allowed cases (46 kg)

Hold luggage used the 10 kg allowance for us both. (20kg)

Then Trans global i used 4 boxes (95Kg) cost me roughly 110 pounds for courier.

The boxes arrived all unopened undamaged( class in them as well) within the week of me arriving. They were pickup up day before we flew out. ( hint make sure you dont list anything as new all bought over a year ago- no taxes to customs- no long forms)

I used boxes roughly 55x37x39 and played about with weights in the boxes

  3. I had interview on 16th Aug and flew out on the 26th Aug. I to also had ASAP written on mine. My passport and visa arrived on the 23rd one week after approval. Flights booked night before I received passports back. Bit of gamble and mad rush to leave with daughter 3days later. All worth it though. Just check status and await for tracking info. Not long now

  4. Hi can i just say- i shipped 4 good size boxes on Thursday through transglobal express using ups( 64kg ) at cost of 145 pound and they arrived Today in Ohio- now thats quick. On the invoice listing i just put clothes, pictures, old paperwork, shoes, teddys, dolls, glass vase. and on the customs form didnt list anything as all were over a year old.

All 4 boxes arrived un tampered with nothing opened.

  5. Its the best feeling in the world to be sitting here at my PC writing this as Im now in Bryan Ohio...

Left for Toronto on Thursday- and the airport staff were Brill they were all congratulating us on our move and wishing us good luck for the future.

No issues at all- we were worried as even though we had court documents for immigrating with my daughter we had been told Canadian Control can be very tight on Children crossing the border. Never questioned once about my daughter(different last name to mine)

The drive to Detroit bridge was lovely, seeing some of Canada talking to my Fiance catching up with no wifi dropping.

Customs was funny as our immigration officer must have been relatively new as the look on his face when he saw the two large brown envelopes was brill- it took around an hour all in for him to stamp our passports etc- he even handed us back the envelopes which i just looked at him and said sorry but Im sure you keep these... The girl next to him just laughed and so did he at his error.

We were charged $12 what was that for though- $6 each..

Hope hes not not something wrong lol...

We are just happy to be here. Waiting for my 4 large boxes now to arrive from UK

  6. It's such a relief when you finally have the visas in hand, isn't it!

Have fun with that border crossing. The traffic is always an absolute nightmare on the bridge and the tunnel between Detroit and Canada. What time are you going to be doing it? During the day it's always crammed with lorries. Avoid rush hour if you can because it backs up on I-75. Though you'll be heading south and that always seems quieter!

My flight arrives into Toronto at 12 noon as by time i clear customs get my luggage find fiance we will probably be on the road around 1.30, so we should be hitting the detroit bridge around 6pm -yikes. we can always stop somewhere for lunch. I shall let him know your comments so hes aware of the traffic though incase hes not thought of it.

cant wait daughter and I are very excited at starting new life in America.

The wedding isnt till Sept 23rd now as list seems to have grown and the guys are all wearing kilts now, so after that it will be AOs but will worry about that nearer the time.

  7. Hi

Im going to put everything in the boxes now and make a list of them as my passports with visas are being delivered tomorrow- yeah.

Im using transglobal express as they were cheap and will deliver in 4-6 days.

we plan on leaving on Friday- entering via Toronto - we have friends in Buffalo we can visit on way home.

so now its just a mad panic trying to sell/empty a flat- pack cases but at the end of it i shall be on our way to usa at last its been long journey.

  8. Ok, sorry to hear that, i was in similar situation i had to ask london for extensions/ reissuance. they held my visa application open as my k1/k2 had expired and allowed me to reapply as such. i had to pay for new medicals etc but i did not have to pay for new visa/ courier.

i have been approved again and my new visas arrive tomorrow.

Im through London and i think every embassy has there own rules

first thing is contact them explain and then see what they do, they might be great and hold them open for you and will let you reapply for new. good luck

  9. Hi

thanks exactly what i was saying to my fiance he said just say its $$ but they are of value to me as even though there all used they were not cheap clothes/shoes etc.

I do als0 have daugters toys- teddies etc and the docs are her nursery portfollio, school work etc so very heavy lol and thats me taking them out of folders etc.

an extra suitcase is £70 plus £30 to buy a suitcase which will allow me 20 kg hence the boxes covering 50kg is a good move i think and saves me carting even more suitcases bags etc.

Im going to prepare the paperwork and as soon as i have passports ill organise courier for next day.

    thanks for advice

  10. hi

thanks i was planning on doing my SSN within a couple of days arriving and as you suggested use my maiden name asits on passport and I-94 both of which are required to get SSN.I can change it later. Then ill need to see about driving license in OHIO- seens some posts on that lol

thanks for the checklist that sure helps- i know i can follow it and I'll not go wrong as yous have been right all the time through my K1/K2 journey so thank you.

    :dancing:

  11. Hi

I have a final question and its probably somewhere but i just cant see it

so when we arrive in usa, what are the next steps in relation to the mountain of paperwork that will be required next.

I know Nich-nick has done a great job in their step by step instructions dealing with london etc .

Have they done one for after we arrive.

I just want to make sure im prepared and ready.

just excited now about the move nad upcoming wedding.

  12. ive got it coming to the house only because the depot is in an industrial estate and i dont have a car anymore and theres no public transport to the depot.

I just kept telling them i was looking to get out to states asap as daughter has school soon and wedding also needs to be soon so that fiance son can go back to medical school.

fingers crossed theyll be quick for him also .

at least its the last hurdle.

  13. another wow

interview on tuesday and checked my status on wednesday at 3.30 it showed ready- rechecked again at 4.30 and it says administrative processing and when i checked this afternoon at 3pm its says its been issued so in just over 24 hrs its been created and issued. now we just need to wait see how long it will be till its delivered. LOL Im away to pack the last case and boxes now just in case

  14. Hi

Has anyone actually send over some stuff before they immigrate. Im looking to send 3 medium boxes of old clothes, teddies, shoes, paperwork and some books- nothing of value but all in approx 50kg. have been quoted £121 my transglobal express. Im taking 3 suitcases and 2 cabin bags -75 kg in weight there.

My fiance keeps telling me just to ship the 3 boxes as when i get passports back im likely booking the flights and travel out within 2 days max hopefully-I can fly to canada for £500 for me and daughter and travel over by car ( hell come pick us up).

he tells me just to put on form clothes, books, shoes value $200 as all worn and ship to him.

Im a worrier as you can tell and hate taking chances.

    :goofy:

  15. hi

sorry to hear ive been there and got through it though it took me 16 months to fight it through courts. The embassy held my petition open as we were open and honest about the situation. you will prob need to consult lawyer as im sure all countries have different laws regarding removal of child- and also will depend on his parental rights and responsibilities - if he has them he can stop you. American schools may look for evidence that you have his permission or court papers to say that they are legally allowed to come to school there.

    lawyer first though.

  16. HI timings will depend on how smoothly your application goes how well you fill in forms provide the right information. the guides above are excellent it tells you what to do what to expect. mine took 6 months first time- at london embassy then it was put on hold for 18 months while i sorted out court stuff re daughter now its full steam ahead. Are you applying for K2 visas do have permission/ allowed to immigrate with the children- will the other parent object try to put stop to it- thats what slowed us down. so please make sure your covered there,

if you look at other peoples timelines on Visa journey it will also give you a fair idea of timescales. good luck

  17. WOW

Approved AGAIN - everything went great at embassy.

I was very worried at one point even though they said congratulations yous are both approved. They then couldn't access my daughters case to allow me to sign via fingerprints- so we had to go wait in waiting room for another hour while they redid her DS160 form only to be told actually can you come back at 3pm as we are having problems.

So we come back at 3pm to an empty consulate waiting room- scary. After another 20mins they called us round again to window 15 and said ok all good now can you sign for your daughter- Because we had previously applied and been approved our new ds160s were causing an error so they redid daughters sent it off to Washington to get verified/approved or something and reloaded.

BRILL service all along the guy kept apologizing for keeping us waiting for the problems- I was just happy that we were approved.

so hopefully no more glitches and we shall get passports back asap- they did keep asking when we needed them back and wrote asap on file( im sure they do that for everyone).
