JJ Day got a reaction from spielerin in Waiting for our passports from Montreal
K1 visas are a non-immigrant visas, whereas CR1/IR1 visas are immigrant visas. (K1 applicants do not become immigrants until after they are in the US and have applied for an adjustment of status.) I assume that non-immigrant visas are generally issued faster because consulates process far more non-immigrant visas (approx 6,000,000/yr) than immigrant visas (approx 50,000/yr). It makes sense that each consulate would have a bigger staff working on non-immigrant visas, especially since many other non-immigrant categories are more time sensitive than immigrant visas. This is just a theory, but it might explain why K1 applicants seem to get their visas back faster.

We'll never know, but I wonder why the status updates at all. Mine has been updated every single work day since my interview, still on Ready. I'm confident next week will be my turn! One has to stay positive.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!
That message is standard. "Issued" means your passport has left the building. I'm so happy for you!

My interview was last week and there were lots of US spouses there. They weren't allowing them up to the interview windows, but they were definitely welcome in the waiting area. Also, my interview was at 9am and I initially arrived when they opened at 8:15am, but they did not let me up. They told me to return at 8:45am. So I'd say 15 minutes early is plenty.

Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated, and it's definitely nice to know I'm not alone in this.

Update: I called the NVC to confirm the max file size for pdf files and they said that they do not even scan the 2D barcodes. He said that all information is inputted manually, so as long as the information in the boxes is legible there is no worry. Whew! That makes me feel MUCH better.

Thank you all so much for your help and patience! I think my moment of pure panic has passed. I have scanned everything and all looks good, and all attachments are under 5MB. I'm going to sleep on this and then hit "send" tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

The service center your application is sent to has absolutely nothing to do with where you live so changing your address would be a waste of time and could very possibly raise red flags. Once again, the best advice is to WAIT until after you have a visa in hand to plan a wedding. Otherwise you will end up having to go the CR1 route, which will put you all the way back at square one. I know how difficult this waiting is, but you really have to get the idea of an August wedding out of your mind. You say it's not possible to reschedule, but if it's impossible to have a visa by then, then the sad truth is that you must find a way to reschedule.

Having a reception without the actual wedding is definitely the best idea. Then you can get legally married at a court house or something and nobody has to be the wiser. If you simply must get "married" in August because of plans you've already made, then this is absolutely your best plan of action. Happy day to you!

You should probably reschedule your wedding. October/November is more realistic, but I would wait for this part of the process to be over before planning a wedding. That way you can enjoy doing so, rather than worry endlessly over variables you cannot control. I'd hate for stress to override what should be a joyous occasion!
