I'm crossing my fingers for you especially, Trenz! You've been in this long enough. I don't have the exact link, but look up US Department of State Consular Affairs on Facebook. The top post says all posts worldwide are working this weekend to clear the backlog, and one of the comments on the thread says they will be caught up before the July 1 holiday. I've learned not to believe everything I've been told, but it does give me hope for everyone out there who just want to be with their loved ones.

My immigrant visa status has been updated almost daily since my interview, but it still says "ready." I'm hoping the promise to be caught up by Tuesday, as per the Consular Affairs Facebook page, turns out to be true.

My interview was last week and there were lots of US spouses there. They weren't allowing them up to the interview windows, but they were definitely welcome in the waiting area. Also, my interview was at 9am and I initially arrived when they opened at 8:15am, but they did not let me up. They told me to return at 8:45am. So I'd say 15 minutes early is plenty.

Today my status went from Ready to AP, back to Ready. I hope this is a good sign that Montreal is back online. I interviewed June 17, Montreal consulate, IR1 visa.

Yes, your immunization card will be just fine. That's what I had also. My interview was actually 2 days ago and I was approved. Best of luck to you!

My interview was on Wednesday and went well! I was only there about an hour and everyone was very friendly. My visa was approved and now it's just a waiting game for it to be printed in my passport. I was hoping to POE on July 1 and celebrate Independence Day with my husband's family, but I'm guessing that's not likely. More pressing is the fact that the lease on my apartment is up July 31st and I was planning to move in with my husband on August 1st. I hope everything gets resolved and I receive my visa by then, otherwise I'm not sure where I'll go with all my stuff. Fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for the info and well wishes! I've got copies of everything they asked for, as well as things they didn't. I hope I'm ready for any surprise questions or queries. My sister-in-law had her interview a month ago and it was smooth sailing. In and out of the office in less than an hour. I'm hoping/praying for a similar experience.

This may sound like a stupid question, but I want to have all my ducks in a row before my interview in Montreal this week. I have all of the documents, plus copies, of everything they have requested on my interview letter. However, the last item on the list is "eligibility document" and I have no idea what that means. I called the NVC and they were not able to clarify. Could this possibly be related to the issue of domicile? Or am I missing something that I will regret I did not bring with me? Thank you.

Thank you for the fair warning. I will definitely ask, although I've learned not to expect anything about this process to be completed quickly or universally. Everyone seems to have a different experience and timeline, so I'll try not to worry about what I cannot control and ask questions when necessary. I hope your husband receives his visa soon!

I have an April 30th CC and was scheduled for a June 17 interview (IR-1). I think/hope I have everything I need. I'm a little nervous about the issue of domicile because my husband lives with me in Canada, but I have a long list of proof that he plans to move on July 1. My hope is that I can move with him at the same time (fingers crossed, since we have to vacate our current apartment on June 30), but we do have a back-up plan if I'm denied at the interview. He'll still go ahead on July 1 and I'll temporarily move in with a friend. It seems silly that they would make us do this, but we've leaped through much bigger hoops in the 18 years we've been together, so one more won't be the end of the world. I'm trying to be as calm about this as possible and take things as they come, one step at a time.

Hooray! Congrats!

I wonder why you could not get them faxed to you. I called my local IRS office (Minnesota) and had them on my fax machine within a few minutes. No problems, just had to answer a few questions about the return. I guess I got lucky.
Anyways, I'm sure you will be fine with your TurboTax paperwork, along with whatever W2s or 1099s you got from your employer. Especially for citizenship, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Good luck!

I contacted my state IRS office. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1

Yep, just customer service. Please note that they do need to confirm that you receive the fax while they are on the phone with you, so either be right with the fax machine or use an online fax service. Hope this helps!

You can call the IRS and have them faxed to you. That's what I did and it was not a problem at all.

Just wanted to let people on here know my experience with Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas in Toronto this afternoon. My appointment was for 1:45pm, so I showed up at 1:30pm. The receptionist took my passport, vaccination record, and photo. She made a case file and directed me to an office to wait for the doctor. Dr. Mascarenhas was very nice, asked if I was healthy, checked my blood pressure, and took my $300. I was sent to the basement of the same building for a chest x-ray and then directly across the street to a laboratory where they took one vial of blood. I was on the streetcar back home by 2:15pm. All in all, a very simple process. I have nothing to compare it to, but I'd highly recommend Dr. Mascarenhas.

Yes, the "whole process" in this circumstance meaning at the NVC.
-
WHEW! Case complete! And the whole process took less than 50 days, including a checklist. Here's hoping it doesn't take very long to get an interview date in Montreal.
I have to say that my experience with the NVC was quite positive. I don't know if they've increased the number of employees or what, but in the past month I've been able to get in touch with them by phone on the first try and never had to wait more than 15 minutes on hold. Plus, they told me it would take 60 extra days for a case complete when I replied to a checklist, but it only took them 11 days to respond. What a relief for that response to be a CC!
Best wishes to everyone else for a similar outcome!

I called the NVC and they said the checklist must have been an error, but all I can do is submit the marriage certificate again and wait another 60 days. Frustrating to say the least, but the bright side is knowing the more complicated parts of the application were completed properly. A supervisor is going to review the case as well, so hopefully I won't have to wait the full 60 days again.
-
You do not have to relinquish your Canadian citizenship to become an American citizen.
-
My SD was March 13 and CL date April 14.
-
The good news: It only took the NVC 30 days to review the documents I emailed.
The bad news: I received a checklist for my marriage certificate, even though I included it.
What's the best course of action? Do I just email it again and wait? Or is there something I can do to avoid another wait? I'm looking at the file I submitted and it's right there!
-
Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated, and it's definitely nice to know I'm not alone in this.
-
Thanks for that info. That makes me feel much better!
Funny that I can send an email to places like Old Navy or McDonald's and get an immediate automatic confirmation, but not something important like, say, immigration. Oh well. It is what it is.
Bad NEWS, for anyone who filed visa, recently!!!

We have practically the same timeline. My interview (IR-1) was on the 17th and my status was last updated on the 25th. They said on the website that the backlog will be cleared early this week. Since Wednesday is a holiday in Canada, I hope that means today or tomorrow. I'd really like to put in my 60 days notice on where I'm living before June runs out. Fingers crossed!
