Hi everyone,
I am getting ready to print out everything for our AOS packet tonight and send it out tomorrow. We got married and my fiance is here on a K1 visa. When i look at everyone else's checklist well they are just huge while ours seems to be short so i am a bit worried. I followed the AOS guide on this site to gather all the documents. Please take a moment to look it over and let me know what you think and i will also have some questions in the end.
Payment ($1070)
I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
Copy of travel passport including the K1 visa page
Copy of Form I-797 Notice of Action (NOA2 for I-129F)
Copy of Electronic Form I-94
Birth Certificate with translation (Non USC Wife)
Copy of marriage certificate
G-325A
6 Passport Photos
Form DS-3025 Vaccination Documentation Worksheet
I-864 Affidavit of support
Most recent tax return IRS Tax Transcript for 2013
I-765 Application for Employment Authorization
I-131 Application for Travel Document
Please let me know if anything is missing or any other problems.
Question about the photos. Do i have to send 6? Two for I-485, two for travel document and two for employment authorization?
Copy question. Some of the same documents are required for the same petitions, like the I-94 is required for the I-864, for the I-765 and I-131. Does this mean i have to make 3 copies so that each petition has a copy?
Do i have to send bank statements and letter from employer?
Thank you!

Hi,
I am reading the guide for AOS and i am a bit confused about the Form I-693.
My fiances medical exam was about 1.5 months ago in Ukraine before the interview for the K1 visa. She has all of her vaccinations that she is suppose to have (That's what they told her at the exam but you never know) and she has the Form DS-3025. We are planning to submit AOS paperwork in about a month so its less than one year since the exam.
So the question is what am i suppose to do with this form?
Do i need to include it in my packet or do i skip it?
Do we have to go to a civil surgeon or how do we go about it?
Thank you for your time!

I've never heard of anyone applying for a SSN before the EAD or green card had been approved. Is this something that the SS office allows for K1 visa holders? Or is this something that applies to anyone waiting for AOS? I am adjusting from F1, wonder if I can go apply for a SSN while waiting! That'd be awesome.
Everyone is applying for SSN before their Green Card or EAD is approved. On a K1 at least not sure about F1.

Hi!
We were K1 and did not go a CS. We submitted the DS 3025 along with these instructions: Green Card in hand with no RFE!

3. What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical exam overseas?
If you were admitted as a:
a. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or as a
b. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and
c. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then:
(1) You are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination, and the medical examination did not reveal a Class A medical condition, or if you did have a Class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility and have complied with the terms and conditions on the waiver.
(2) Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the vaccination report completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you are required to submit the vaccination record and page 1 of Form I-693.
Ammended: IF your country provides the vaccinations—I have learned that some do not. (This does not pertain to you per your post). Good luck!

Wow!
Did you guys go to the courthouse in person to ask them about the requirements and did they tell you that it is definitely a must for her to have a SSN and a picture ID with an address on it to be able to apply for a marriage license?
No. It said it on their website. They asked for the picture ID but did not actually require us to have a SSN
-
Now I regret that I've been waiting a month to apply for a SSN, having it already would save me some stress. Me and my fiance were just too busy enjoying each other and our first Chirstmas/NYE together.
Now that the Holidays are over, reality hit me and made me realize that I still haven't applied for a SSN.
Don't worry about it too much once you are together things can wait. Its easier now. Kind of off topic but you guys should feel lucky that all they want is the SSN. That part is easier. In our state of Oregon you are required to have a picture ID with an address on it to apply for a marriage license. So that's a document you have to get from DMV which takes more time. We already got all that and have the marriage license in hand but it was bit more work this way.

We got our SS Card within 7 days and they said it would take 2 weeks so its a short wait but i am not sure about your question, sorry. Maybe if you ask at the office he or she would tell you your number

We applied for SSN 3 days after my fiance entered the US. Downloaded the I-94 2 days after she entered. Try to see if you are inputting the passport info correctly or try to see if there is anyone you can call. I am not sure about applying without the I-94, maybe it can work.

Most people on here will tell you its pointless. I have red wwway to many post where people say "lawyer messed up our paperwork"
Think about it, no lawyer will spend hours and days double checking your paperwork if it is correct where you will i know i did. So something to think about...

Hello.
I read the Step by step for SSN and there it's saying that to apply for a SSN is necessary:
1.The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget).
2.your Passport (with the K-1 Visa in it)
3.your valid I-94: Electronic I-94 Copy; or (for older entries) an original (and bring a front/backside copy) of a valid paper I-944.another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions)5.You should also bring the document RM 10211.530 that you printed outMy question regards number 4.
Considering I'm obviously not from USA, and I don't have any form of USA ID (for a driver's license here in NJ we need the SSN first), what else would they accept as extra ID besides the passport itself?
Regards
Nothing else
Passport
Printed out I-94
Application that you can fill out at the office.
and that's it. Birth certificate is nice if you have it (Translated), we did not and it was ok. also no second ID needed.
My fiance just got her SSN and that is all we did.
-
On the airplane he will fill out a declaration form and that's it. He has to give the officer the declaration form, passport and the sealed packet. The I-94 is something that is filled out by the officer.

MEEST is probably the cheapest and best for sure. Only send to Ukraine though. That is how we always send money.
-
so can i go for my medicals why am waiting for the embassy to receive our package???
That is what we did. scheduled the medical right after the KEV#. In fact we scheduled the interview before the packet got there too. Just waited for the case status to turn to READY.

8 Days for us. One of those days was Thanksgiving which is a day off. My fiance lives on the western boarder so that's 800 km away from Kiev.

Your welcome!

Thank you!
It will differ from consulate to consulate?
That would be better than making 100+ pages of tax return copies.
Exactly, its better than bringing lots of random papers.
Everyone I asked said that the consulate prefers IRS Tax Transcripts so i decided to do that. I printed them for two year. They have all of the info even who did your taxes for you. That is what we submitted to the embassy and we got approved so....
-
Log in to the IRS website and download the "Tax Transcript"
That's all i did. I got the transcripts for the past two years.

Ours was in Administrative processing right after the interview and 2 days latter went to Issued. Now we got an email that the courier has picked up the passport from the embassy.
So i think that status means they are doing the paperwork and printing the visa

Yes send any evidence that you have but don't send it all. So i had about 4000 pages of chat conversations with my fiance and from it all i selected about 20 pages. Each with very different months. I sent photos of us. I opened a Word file and imported pictures in there and next to each i typed the date and what is going on in the picture so for example: "04/12/14 Me and Txxxxx are at a restaurant". I did two pictures per page and came up with 5 pages than saved it to a flash drive went to a FedEx office and had them print it in color. I sent copies of my boarding passes, itinerary from Expedia, passport with a stamp in it, a receipt of currency exchange and the receipt from the engagement ring i bought when visiting her. All of these items to prove that i was there visiting her. I sent Skype screenshots too. We got approved in 40 days with no RFE. I hope this helps a little.
-
I sent all of that and i think they only checked I-134 at the interview.
At our embassy website it says we have to submit both of those so i did.
Mostly they need I-134 and Tax return (Preferably Tax Transcripts). I submitted I-134, tax transcripts from IRS, employment verification, 3 pay stubs and bank statement. Our visa was approved a week ago.

In France, if you do not intend to leave transit zone, no transit visas needed, at least for ukrainians. If you can get her a ticket via smaller airport, I would do it, but make sure she has few hours of layover, just in case.
Good luck with a trip, and hope she enjoys the US!
Thank you!

Thank you for the response. I have been in both Munich and Frankfurt airport. Munich is very very simple and a nice airport. Her English is not great but i think she would be fine. From Ukraine the most common layovers are in Frankfurt/Munich and Amsterdam at least in my experience. I did not know that you can have a layover in France, I though you needed a transit visa for that if you are a Ukrainian citizen but i guess not. Thanks for your experience!

Thanks for sharing!
By the way i think my fiance will be flying for the first time here to Portland via that same route, layover in Munich and Chicago.
Was it an easy change of planes? Any advice? Thank you in advance and thanks again for sharing your experience.

Unfortunately NVC is very slow right now. My friend has been in the NVC step for 2 months now.
