I know what you mean. When my wife filed we thought the same thing, but reading the instructions I was amazed at how little required documents were required. We only sent in what was asked for, and since you guys have already completed the ROC, I wouldn’t worry about all the commingling and relationship stuff.
Good
I saw that too in the instructions. Its better that we dont have to send so much stuff.

I am trying to order our tax transcripts my husband is the head of the house hold and he is the one applying for us citizenship .. Each time we order them the last name is showing mine .. Why isnt it coming with my husbands last name ? We prefer that bcs he is applying for the N 400 and im a us citizen
I am not sure. I know only the last name of the head of the household shows up and than the SSN for each person shows on the form so they still see that the two of you are on there

If applying online, your documents can be uploaded in PDF, JPEG, MSWord, and a couple of other formats.
As you go through the application online, it will prompt you to upload specific required documents depending on how you answer certain questions (for example, if you answer "yes" to the criminal history part, you will be prompted to upload relating court documents...if you answer "yes" to specific marriage-related questions---since you are applying under the 3-year rule----it will prompt you to upload final divorce decrees from any past marriages).
Ok i see how that works. Thank you for making it clear

My wife filed under the 3 year rule and we only submitted the required evidence outlined in the N400 instructions (page 10) which consisted of the marriage certificate and copy of the I551 GC (item 1 and 4 did not apply to us). We took all the other documents with us to the Interview and she had no issues.
That being said, you can certainly include everything on your list, but make sure you include a copy of the GC which was not on your list. Btw, have you also filed for the ROC?
Good Luck!
Yes she just got her 10 year GC few months ago. Thanks for the input

Hi, we will be filing for my wife to get a citizenship and we want to do it under the 3 year rule so we have to submit a lot of evidence. Please help with what documents to send also we will try to apply online which i have never done before, has anyone had any experience with this also? Do you upload pdf files of evidence when you are applying?
These are the evidence documents we want to include, your input is appreciated. Thank you.
Marriage certificate
Citizenship Certificate
Birth certificate for our child
IRS Tax transcripts(by the way the IRS now only includes the last 4 characters of the SSN and first 4 of the last name and first 6 of the address so most of the name infor on the transcripts in blank out)
Car registration/insurance
Rental agreement
Bank statements
Utilities(electric, water, gas)
Thank you.

Hi. We sent in our ROC paperwork for my wife last May 2017 and got a 1 year green card extension letter in June of 2017. Soon it will be a year since we started the process and from all the timelines i am seeing there is no way we will hear back anything before 1.5 years. As far as i understand we have to make an info pass appointment at the USCIS office to get another extension for the green card since the letter is good for a year only. How soon do i have to schedule the appointment? What is your experience with this?
Thank you!

Kind of bad that he didn't do that. You want it or not, it's a duty when you're a permanent resident.
"USCIS will deny a naturalization application when the applicant refuses to register with Selective Service or has knowingly and willfully failed to register during the statutory period. [8] The officer may request for the applicant to submit a status information letter and registration acknowledgement card before concluding that he failed to register."
This is true. They will deny it between ages 26 to 31 if not registered. However if you are 31 and older USCIS will not deny it based on Selective service registration.

Hi,
I am helping a friend of mine to apply for citizenship. He came to the US between ages of 18 to 26 but did not register for the Selective Service. He just turned 31 and from the research i have done if you show a good moral character for 5 years there should be no issues with the application.
Anyone out there who has experience with this?
Since he is 31 does he still need to submit an explanation letter and a status letter from the selective service along with the application?
Thank you for your time!

I submitted the paperwork late June 2016 (to the office in Laguna Niguel) and am still waiting. We're going to test the whole passport, expired green card and letter when my wife returns to LAX this Saturday. We'll submit her citizenship application in early April (90 days before three years) and see what happens. Hurry up and wait. Yah.
Wow that is a long time. Hopefully soon. Please keep me posted on how the reentry went i am sure though there will be no problems. Thank you!

The letter extends the expiration date for one year. If still your permanent GC has not arrived, ask for a second extension. Patience. Some people have waited over 16 months. It also depends on which center you have to submit.
Ahh i see how that work. So the letter is your proof of legal presence in the US while the case is pending. Thank you!

Hi,
I am seeing that California Service Center is very backed up with I-751 applications. From the USCIS website its showing that the wait currently is about 9 to 10 months and I am seeing the same timeline from the VJ users.
Since we are only allowed to submit the application 90 days before the expiration date on the Green Card which is almost 3 months, does that mean that the petitioner is going to have an expired Green Card for about 6 to 7 months? Do you get some kind of an extension while the paperwork is pending? How does this work?
Thank you for your time!

Update:
I just got off the phone with USCIS (I can't believe it but they picked up the phone right away).
This is what they said:
"At the time of submitting the N-400 application the green card must be valid and while the case is pending it does not matter to them if the card expires. Showing up to the Interview with an expired Green Card is perfectly fine"
So yes it looks like it is OK to file for Naturalization with a Green Card that is about to expire.
-
Thank you everyone. I also red thru everything and did not see anything about the validity of the Green Card and N-400 application.

Hi,
We want to apply for my mom's citizenship but as of today her Green Card is 5 and a half months away from expiring.
Can we still apply for the Citizenship or do we have to renew the card first? Did anyone go thru this?
Thank you!
-
Not at all. Some people do it a year after they get married. Important thing is to get married in 90 days.
The drawback of not filling is that you can't get a work permit or the green card. Don't worry.
-
No, but you will need to include tax documentation as well as proof of financial commingling.
Go get that new job!
Thank you!

I had the same questions when i was doing mine.
Do not use staples just use paperclips for each section.
Use zip lock bags for pictures, i did this for my passport photos. For evidence photos i just went to FedEx store and printed out color photos on regular paper. 2 or 3 photos per page but you can also put evidence photos in a zip lock bag.
Once you have everything assembled use a large binder clip to hold everything together. (clips for each section like I-129F and so on and a binder clip to hold all the sections together)
Go to the post office and stuff the packet into whatever envelope fits it and send.
I did this for all of my USCIS documents. Hope it helps

Hi,
Next year we have to file for Removing Of Conditions for my wife. I was wondering do we have to fill out an Affidavit of Support form or show evidence of my workplace for this application?
Kind of like i had to do for her when applying for the K1 Visa. I am wondering if this is a bad time to switch jobs.
Thank you!

Thank you for the clear answer everyone!

Hi,
Can someone who is a Green Card holder apply for a CR-1 or K1 visa for their spouse or fiance?
What about submitting form I-130 for a family member like mom or a sibling?
Thank you in advance!

Good to know. I agree with the lost documents part. It also might speed it up because they dont have to go thru the mail and than scan everything in the computer
