I was actually wondering about that as well... As long as our Canadian DL is still valid, we can drive right? Snowbirds go to Florida all winter and it is not illegal for them to drive. I don't want to be stuck not working, and not driving for 6 months or so!

Girlfriend you need to chill! Have a glass of wine or a bottle lol.
You will get to your wedding day with grey hair and a stomach ulcer if you keep going. You're almost there but make sure you get there in one piece emotionally and mentally. From one future bridezila having to immigrate to another, it`s so easy to get wrapped in all this craziness and imagine worst case scenario, but as my fiancé constantly reminds me 'We can't change the future so why worry about things we can't control and that probably won't happen' (his words are more inspiring... I can give you his number if you want)
Just remember the road you have already traveled and that the finish line is right around the corner. If that fails drink wine or vodka, whatever calms you down. You can do it!

Which is why it's important to show ties to your country. I always travel with a letter from my employer a recent pay stub, and a copy of my lease for my apartment. Up to now they never asked for anything. However when I go through preclearance at the Montreal airport, I saw a difference between my first trips when I said I was going to visit my boyfriend and the last one when I said my Fiance because we had gotten engaged. The CO was very nice and actually funny, but he asked more questions, specifically asked if I was planning to get married and stamped my passport which they usually never did.
My suggestion is to show ties to home, maybe bring an upcoming contract you may have for work, and if you're renting a place, you could ask for a lease or contract as proof.
    Good luck!

Wow quite a story! Congrats to both of you and more power to your future wife! She's a trooper, I think I'd still be sitting in that chair crying lol!
But most of all I love and respect the positive attitude, it s refreshing to read. And as you said so well they were doing their job, and in this case they did it well. You should be very proud of your fiancée!
Best of luck and lots of happiness in the future.

Why care about what other people think of a t.v. show if you do not believe it portrays the realities of your relationship? If you`re happy with your decision then so be it and screw other peoples judgments.
Relationships are different for everyone. I for one could not imagine committing by getting engaged or even less married with so little time spent face to face with someone. But then again I'm in a, as mentioned 'Canadian-American relationship' and have spent just about 100 days over the span of a year with my fiance before getting engaged, but that is what we chose because it's a part of a relationship we need to commit.
Everyone makes their own decisions and part of being in a mature relationship is owning up to the path we have laid out before us. So if you're happy and confident in your relationships why should you be defensive?

Something else to consider... Where does she want to give birth? If you go the K-1 route and she moves in with you before she has the baby, she will probably not be able to go back to Canada to deliver because she will still be adjusting her status.
If you can easily travel to her for visits and be there for the delivery perhaps it would be better to start the process now, as it can take a while, but only finalize everything and have her move after the baby is born. That way she can take advantage of free healthcare, be followed by the same doctors, and not put herself through the stress of moving.
    Just something to consider.
    Congratulations! and Good luck!

Then all this is a moot point if a gay person tells you they were born this way believe them, if they tell you they were influenced and chose to be gay believe them as well. You are trying to understand or label something that is beyond your comprehension.
Live and let live and have sex with whomever you want.

Why is it important? Would your respect gay people more or less if we had a definitive answer to that question?

So you think you could wake up tomorrow morning and choose to be a lesbian?? Sexual orientation is about who you are attracted to. My brother was married for 13 years, had 3 kids when he decided to finally admit to himself and people around him that he was in fact gay. Trying to live a 'conventional' life doesn't make someone less gay.

We apologize for the many issues you may encounter if you hire one of us women of child bearing age... up until now we are still the only people that can actually have children. But eh if it causes you too many issues steer clear from us.

But it's not forced on the employer it's deducted from the employees pay. As Not a Tailor said, in Canada we have a percentage or our paycheck deducted and we pay into Employment Insurance. And when we need it for maternity leave or anything else the government pays us. Even when we relocate to the USA for our spouse and are allowed to work but cannot find a job or don't make enough money. we can still receive our benefits for the maximum time allowed. We often complain about the amount of taxes we pay... but it's not all bad.
I'm not trying to be a foreigner that wants to ''make a big deal out of things that are different than where they came from'' It's just a different reality to think you have to send your 4 week old baby to daycare because you have to go back to work.

Guess what? Condoms break, birth control fails, and accidents happen all the time... in fact I'm sure most of us here were not planned in our parents budgets. Most hard working people do not have a kid relying on a government system. In Canada we get 55% of our salary for a year, it still demands sacrifice and budgeting and working things out.
I'm guessing you do not have kids yourself, or maybe you do... The future of any country relies on the kids we have. Like it or not it's a social responsibility to ensure their future and make sure future generations do not have to live in poverty and deal with the consequences that come along with it. Doesn't the fact you are yourself unsure about getting social security make you realize how essential it is for some change to happen in the near future?

Yes for sure it costs something to the employer and it can be a pain in the butt to find a replacement for mat leave. As far as productivity goes there's a lot to consider. I'm not sure a woman that just gave birth 4 weeks ago, maybe in postpartum depression, that is waking up every 2 hours to breastfeed would be much more profitable.
And it's proven happy employees are more productive.
