  1. I called NVC several times a week after NOA2 to find out if and when they received our case file. For me calling in the evenings (around 7 pm California) worked best. I suggest you call NVC on Monday to find out the date they received your case. Then count at least 20 working days to figure out about when you will receive the Case #. Again start calling NVC towards the end of that time period.

Thanks for the reply... could you please suggest what all information do these NVC guys ask from me while enquiring about the receipt of the case file.

  2. Hey Guys, checking in here........

I got my case approved from on 7th Feb ( USCIS says that your case was approved), however on 6th Feb itself, USCIS case status was that my application was sent to NVC for visa processing (it was from Nebraska service centre). It waited for entire feb month to get a case number but till now no luck with that.

I have got no mails regarding acceptance of the case at the NVC or assigning a case number. (I got hard copy of NOA2 on 11 Feb).

Is it really taking so much time for NVC to issue a case number??? Should i go back to USCIS and ask them if they have sent my application to NVC or not? OR should i call NVC guys if they have received my application.

  3. Thank you all guys.............

  5. Please looks at DOS reciprocity table. For india, the police clearance is from Passport office. Hence the name Passport Clearance.

If you look at India forum, they you can get more details on getting a passport clearance.

    Thanks ScienceWorks...

As per my knowledge, For passport clearance , i have to take online appointment to passport office, and once its done, they just confirm if the police enquiry was done during passport issuance. Then finally they issue you a passport clearance.

But police clearance is something different in which you have to apply to police department of your area and they check your criminal background; and then finally issue a clearance.

Pls correct me if i am wrong somewhere.

  6. What is needed in the AOS package?

    Generally, the following is needed:

    With no joint sponsors:

    - Bar-coded cover sheet from payment portal

    - Cover letter (optional)

    - Completed, signed, and dated I-864 form by petitioner

    - Tax information* of petitioner (either just the last year OR the last 3 years)

    - Employment letter of petitioner (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

    - Pay stub(s) of petitioner (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

    With joint sponsors:

    - All of the above of the petitioner

    - Completed, signed, and dated I-864 of joint sponsor

    - Tax information* of joint sponsor (either just the last year OR the last 3 years)

    - Proof of US citizenship/residency of joint sponsor (ex: copy of US passport, US birth certificate, US naturalization certificate, or front & back of green card)

    - Employment letter of joint sponsor (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

    - Pay stub(s) of joint sponsor (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

If the joint sponsor is a household/family member, also include proof of that relationship (example: if a parent is a joint sponsor, include the petitioner's birth certificate with parents' name on it to show link).

*You have two choices here of what to send in:

    - Tax return transcripts ordered from IRS (preferred by NVC and of most consulates/embassies) RECOMMENDED

    OR

    - Tax returns (1040) and W2s and any other schedules (if applicable)

Hi, Could you please clear one more doubt here:

My father-in-law will sponsor me (as my wife is jobless), thus does he fall in the category of joint sponsor or Household member (as checklist for both are different)?

Do both my sponsor here (i.e. my father-in-law) and my spouse has to fill I-864? and then my spouse has to mention in the cover letter that we are having a joint/household sponsor?

Now , when my spouse is not sponsoring me, even then do we need to submit tax returns for my spouse also?

Then in the end, do we need to submit all these documents in a single packet (as USCIS website says that Verify that the petitioner has submitted an I-864 or I-864EZ. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3202.html)?

    Thanks

  7. If your country requires passport clearance (like India, for example), then it goes in the IV package.

    Hi Saylin,

Just wanted to confirm one thing here, there was a detailed post earlier by you and lovewillprevail which says that "police clearance is required with packet IV"

But here you have mentioned that its passport clearance that goes with IV package.

Passport Clearance and Police Clearance are two different things here in India. Could you please confirm what exactly needs to be sent with IV.

  8. Guys, just looking for some info but could't find anywhere.....

I spent around 2 yrs in Singapore long time back (around 5 years). Thus as the USCIS website says that if one have stayed in a country more than 12 months after 16 yrs of age, he/she should have police clearance from that country also.

I have already got police clearance from Singapore 2 months back, but i guess by the time if will have my interviews, it will be 6 months old already. So, do you guys think that i need to have a fresh clearance again? (I don't think it should be because i never visited that country again).

  9. I wouldn't get the police cert until you get the approval. At least my lawyer told me not to do that til then because they expire in a short period of time. Not worth doing it twice since it has to be translated. In Costa Rica it only takes a few hours to get the cert.

  10. Can someone pls update me how many persons one can sponsor?

My father-in-law has already sponsored 2 persons, thus can he sponsor me also?

What is going to be his household size in that case? will it be 2 (both partners) + 2 (already sponsored) + 1 (me ) = 5

If yes, then how much income he should have?

i got this data from some post but its for 2011:

    1 household member: $10,890

    2 household members: $14,710

    3 household members: $18,530

  12. Ummm.. i can't figure out why there is no 3rd mail in some of the cases, because when i have checked few numbers randomly (near to my number MSCxxxxxxxxx), all of those cases has the same updated case status as mine (i.e. they are being processed now).

Not sure, may be they all belong to one service centre (can be CSC) , and this particular service centre has already started some work on the files.

Although m not sure what this status mean, I wish this should be very near to the approval thing. :)

Best of luck to all,.... wish evry1 get this soon....
