Next week I am visiting the UK for the first time since emigrating 15 months ago. I gather that as a UK citizen I am still entitled to NHS services without charge, however was wondering if anyone in similar circumstances had taken out insurance to cover repatriation in the event of illness or injury? The idea of heading to the US whilst ill is insane obviously, but I have health benefits through work and nowhere to live in the UK.

If you have travelled using the VWP and ticked 'no' to the moral turpitude question on your application you will likely be grilled some at interview. I was and my minor run In with the law was 30+ years ago as a juvenile. It didn't result in a refusal but you might want to be prepared for it

Are you ok for a pen?

Hi all.
My application for EAD was received by USCIS on January 30. Last week I requested an expedite based on my child support obligations in the UK and today received a text to say that my card is in production and that my travel authorisation has been granted. Seems it is worth asking the question.
Now all I need to do is find a job

Bearing in mind that for both interview and aos the pictures are supposed to have been taken within the previous month

I stayed there for my interview in December. Rooms are nice enough, though a little small. Best thing is that it is a ten minute walk to the embassy (I timed it the night before). I had intended to avail myself of the breakfast but was far too nervous on the morning so I can't review that for you.
And they are more than happy to look after your bags. Oh and after my interview they were happy for me to hang around using the free wifi

Hi VJ
I am a K1 visa holder awaiting EAD / AoS and have found this on the Social Security Administration website:
"The following chart lists, by COA code, non-immigrants authorized to work in the U.S. without specific authorization from DHS. The alien’s I-94 showing one of the following COAs has employment authorization unless otherwise noted. The I-94 will not have the DHS employment authorization stamp and the alien will generally not have an EAD."
and then goes on to list many categories of immigrant including K1 visa holders - see section G here: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211420
Does anyone have experience of this? I am still a couple of months away from receiving my EAD if it is processed in line with what others here have posted, and the opportunity to start work earlier that that would be really helpful
Many thanks in advance

filed our AOS on July 3rd 2013, I received my EAD card and AP on September 17th,
Is 12 weeks around standard for an EAD?

This gets worse as you progress, especially at the Emabssy stage, where everything (in London at least) refers to "Immigrant" whilst various DoS portals stubbornly stick with "Non"
I read somewhere (probably on here) that it is considered a non-immigrant visa, as it only confers a 90 day stay and the immigration bit technically occurs with AOS

Interviewed 2nd. Email 11th. Collected visa from depot today (14th)

Congratulations!

Congratulations to you too!
I also e-mailed them last night just to be sure and they said they do not need to keep the photos
Just waiting on the delivery, status has been changed to 'issued'
Ours too! Looking to move December 22 so as soon as possible would be nice

Hi all,
I had my interview today and was approved but I still have the passport photos! I originally gave them to the woman and she cut 2 out and was accidently stapling them to the wrong file (someone with a similar name to mine) and then she took them off and gave them back to me...along with the other 2.
I am worried now. Don't they need my 2 photos for the visa???
Congratulations!
I too was approved in London yesterday. I didn't notice what the lady did with my photos but when she handed them back she definitely said I would need them for my AOS

My fiancée was refused the MMR vaccine at Knightsbridge due to alleged restrictions on the vaccine in the UK. I know this means she will have to get it done via a civil surgeon here in Southern California. We are in San Diego, but can go to LA or Orange County if necessary. Anyone know of a civil surgeon in SoCal who might transcribe the vaccine without having to do the whole physical again? I found an old post from a few years ago on this topic, but the offices they referenced are closed. Thanks!
If your fiance is still in the UK they should speak to their GP. Mine did my MMR last week for no charge at all

I suspect she got turned back at POE for having scruffy hair

Perhaps it's the cologne you were wearing... just kidding Anyway... just curious, Did you use TSA type locks on your bags or no locks or other locks? I visited my fiancee' (now wife) once, used a TSA style lock, and did not notice anything unusual, to and from Kiev... perhaps i was just lucky or their x-ray machines were good enough... My fiancee' followed the same method and achieved the same results as I... hmmm interesting.... perhaps save them and make a decorative collage for your wall... lol
I've used both approved and non-approved. Last week I used an approved one, we flew to Mexico to attend a wedding. My bag didn't make the flight (most likely because the TSA had checked it again). Ironically enough the Mexican authorities then took a bolt cutter to it as they had to rummage through my my clothes as well as it had arrived unattended

Aren't you special that you fit the "profile"
Haha! Probably. I suspect they have major suspicions about all middle-aged British healthcare workers
-
I may be veering toward needing some tin-foil millinary but having been fortunate enough to be able to visit my fiancee a number of times in recent months I seem to have accrued a rather impressive collection of TSA "We checked your bag" cards. Of my last eight flights I have had my case searched five times.
Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just lucky?

6 weeks is only a rough estimate.
They are saying 6 weeks from when they get the *last* piece of info on you - be that the DS forms you mail in or your medical results arriving at the embassy.
Thanks

Congratulations!

Hi all.
I have read a few mentions on here of a six week wait for an interview date at the London Consulate.
When does the six weeks start? Case creation date, packet three date? My status update date recently changed because (according to the DoS) my documents had been checked and I was on the list of people "ready to be assigned an interview"
Can anyone suggest when I might expect to be assigned an appointment?
Thanks

Many thanks for that.
