nothing wrong with getting married as you suggest and going the CR1 route, it's not fraud, loads of people go to the US and get married, to be legal you will need to leave and then file CR1. K1 time varies, mine took about 10 months from filing to arrival.
In many way I wish I had got married in Uk then filed CR1 as I would have had GC more or less straightaway, thats the main advantage of CR 1 as I see it. SS number is a week or 2, no big issue there.

My accent is starting to be a weight. It puts a drag on conversations with new people I have to interact with.
It start by lengthening the interaction. I it adds the dead weight of dealing with "I love your accent?", "Where are you from? Ireland?". It is a pain to have to describe the whole two countries on on island thing. Then it is "Oh I have been to 'insert some BFE county or town here" in Ireland, do you know such and such that lives there?".
It was fun the first two hundred times but all this and I only wanted to order a burger and frigging fries.

We applied for our K1 in July 2012 and we didn't get our NOA2 until April 2013. It went a bit quicker after that and we got married on 12 July 2013.
So we have been married for just over a year and the separation that we endured is now just a vague memory. When you can be together on the other side of the pond and wake up together every day, then the pain you went through is so much worth it. Of course, then everyday issues like trying to get a job and trying to get people in stores to understand you begin! And understanding different US accents. Only today, I couldn't work out if someone was telling me to go to office A or 8!
My advice is to investigate everything to do with the process post-NOA2. And AOS too, if you are a K1. You don;t want to be one of the people who post 'I have my NOA2, what next?' Or 'We've got married. What next?'

Once you have a GC you don't need a work permit, that's part of what a GC is. Work permit or EAD as it is called will be around 60-70 days along with AP. GC may take a year and may not include an interview on the other hand it might.

Got married 3 weeks after arrival
Did two weddings, first one in a park with a few of her family, did that for the AoS process, then did bigger family and friends one 6 months later.
    AoS has taken 9 months.
I work abroad mostly in Europe so getting EAD/AP was important to me.
I wish people had told me how expensive stuff was in the US compared to UK, housing, medical, bread, cheese, beer.

Looks like you will need the TD shot. I only had one MMR and that was fine. if you get the TD then you will need to see a civil surgeon and do the 693, hopefully they will not insist on getting second MMR and varicella.
I have not heard of everyone having varicella before, I thought everyone just got chickenpox as a kid, mind you I had measles and mumps as a kid but they still made me have MMR.
You could just submit the 485 and if you get an RFE deal with it then.

No, it is superceded by the GC. I have both but am not sure what to do with the combo card, cut it up and chuck it away, return to USCIS..No reason to hang on to it.

I lived here for 8 years while in my 20's so I was familiar with many things but it didn't stop me from subjecting my lovely husband to a few rants in the first months about the useless paper heavy health insurance system and the useless banking service and the awful bacon and the horrible drivers here in Austin. It still has been an adjustment but I've moved cities and countries a lot and learning to get around and feeling like an outsider for various amounts of time is all second nature to me.
I do miss the NHS. Healthcare here is so f*cked up and I hate feeling afraid to ever actually need healthcare because going near it is such a headache.

nobbie reacted to Harpa Timsah in Does the visa I want even exist?
This isn't such a crazy question, and I don't think you guys should be so hard on the OP. Some other countries have what they call a working holiday visa, where you can work and travel all at the same time. It's for young people to meet people (cultural exchange) and work a little to pay for the trip. Maybe it's a commonwealth county thing because I have heard of it in Aus, maybe UK, I'm not sure. So it seems he is asking about a program like that.
And the answer it that the US does not have such a program. But don't judge him by US-visa standards. There is a visa that exists like this, in the world, just not in the US.
    Good luck, OP.

Dont get a lawyer, it's not difficult t do yourself, they cannot waive USCIS requirements, save yourself about $2500, read the guides on here several times, read your own embassy instructions and browse the forums here, let's face it your going to have the time to do so, it's not a quick process.

Don't know how the previous poster can make comments like "you will love USA", you don't know, you really ought to try and visit first. You may not like it, I don't particularly, I would live in many other places first, so try and visit.

and another, you're not expected to have anything when you file, just start saving it for later, interview or ROC in a couple of years. Do it soon so when you file for ROC you have stuff 2 years old and newer.
