  1. so...i've spent too much of my day thinking about this. it feels weird because for the past, what is it, two years? i've logged in to this site every day. you guys have been my support system, sometimes even my only friends within 500 miles.

from day 1, i never wanted to move to the US. i always wanted jonas to come to me. but first he wasn't ready to meet my family. then he wasn't ready career-wise. then he was just plain scared. yesterday, he bought tickets to visit singapore for two weeks in september. he's *finally* going to meet my parents.

honestly, i am so much happier in singapore in these few weeks than i've been in the US. i feel close to my family, my friends, my career is taking off again. i can't describe what makes it home, but it just is. i know you guys think i'm crazy for choosing to live apart from my husband, but he gets it. it's a compromise we've made together.

so...yeah...i don't like hearing my home trash talked, just as you didn't like me saying i didn't enjoy the USA. i don't think i've ever actually said the US is a bad place - it's just not for me (and just because you think differently doesn't mean i'm wrong). i will speak up for my home, just as you do for yours.

but i also get that this is an immigration site and most, if not all, of you are deeply proud of the country you live in, how you've made it here, the life you've built for yourselves. at the same time, i can't pretend it was a positive experience for me, even though mentioning that seems to open up a can of worms here. so, right now, what i really need is to find my way to an immigration to singapore website, to get my husband started on his permanent residency in my country.

and before i go, i just want to say thank you for all the encouragement, the listening ears, the shoulders to lean on, the advice (from cars, to recipes, to houses, to personal relationships, and beyond) and most importantly, the friendship. i couldn't have survived the last year without you guys. <3

tbone - i think its amazing that you can find a way to twist any sentence into a joke. you're a cat guy, and that automatically makes you cool in my eyes.

stretch - you're an inspiring lady, i have no idea how you have the energy to do all you do and still come on here and do your mod thing. keeping my fingers crossed for another hillbilly jr for you!

nola - i really hope baby is doing ok. if i do check in over the next few days, it'll be to look for your posts, in the meantime i'm keeping my fingers crossed and sending a whole load of positive vibes your way.

asia - you are one of the sweetest persons i know - may you get to attend every bsb concert out there!

merry - you've been the best reminder of home on the days i missed it the most, and your blunt humor never fails to crack me up

steve - you've given me amazing advice and been a great resource when i felt lost or unsure. thank you for the listening ear when i needed it most too.

nlr - i still haven't gotten my gaming-only desktop but many thanks again for your recommendations! i hope you get the car you've been talking about soon!

frenchy - always so mysterious...i will be in japan in december, maybe you can help me find the best authentic non-jew sushi place lol

if i missed anyone, well, you don't post often enough on the rant thread anymore and my brain is too frazzled after a long day of work to think back that far. :P hugs to all, and hey, never say never, maybe someday i'll find myself having to start a new timeline here. until then... :)

  2. You're out of your mind if you think any property in Singapore cost more than NYC.

And, like I said, you (you) can't own a 46 acre farm in Singapore. In fact, is there even a single farm in Singapore anymore?

To me, that's not even a country sized country.

Nice enough place, but nice try. They don't even have enough water for the population.

And like I said, the GDP of Brooklyn alone is larger than Singapore's GDP...

I'm not putting it down. But no way in the world are you going to do there what you can do here.

steve is so preciously patriotic :P sorry to say but theres nothing special or unique about ny or singapore in terms of what you could or could not do (except maybe not get shot on the sidewalk...yay singapore?) if you simply have the money to make it happen. For me, my singapore is my home. I dont have any complaints or wish that things could be different. If the US was so much better (for me), i wouldnt have left :)

  3. 1-How many people own a 46 acre farm in Singapore? 3?

    Millions do in America.

And not everyone wants to own that much land. my point was you could still own land in singapore if you wanted to, just need the money to do it. And if a singaporean were to sell their 1000sqft condo they could buy 5 plots of 46 acre property in some parts of the US lol.

    Singapore +1 New York 0!

  4. Now see Brat? This is something you can't do in Singapore. Buy your own acreage, ride an ATV (or a horse, your horse) all over the plains and forest. Shoot your guns......

i could do all of those things except guns if i just had the money in singapore...

WT-F man, I just experienced a "double standard"

I made a reservation at a restaurant online, they got back to me "Sorry, our seating capacity has been fulfilled"

Then I did it again, and put a few letters behind my name, "We'll see you then"

omg thats awful. there's a restaurant here who is always "fully booked" unless you say you're visiting from out of town. then they magically have empty seats for you.

  5. Tornado never slept in a crib. I finally got her to her own bed but she crawls in with us sometime through the night.

What are you going to Florida for? You can avoid going back to Singapore and that would clear up the jetlag :P

work wants to do a study trip

sigh that would certainly solve the jetlag...although i wouldn't want to settle in florida...that weather...

  6. loan officer says we are set to close tonight. i know i keep saying that lol...hope it really happens!

oh and i gave some "feedback" to our realtor's managing broker about his constant stream of misinformation. well i guess i know where he got that from, because the broker was in complete agreement with him. "no, you cannot select your own escrow company. your contract says you can? well i don't have the contract in front of me. in any case, the seller can refuse to use the escrow you select, so its to your advantage to use the seller's choice."

  7. Whatju guys gonna do for 3 days?

Likewise, I'm finished with the week.

But I gotta go to Manhattan tomorrow, and, I dun wanna go ta Manhattan.

That reminds me, there's some big Baltimore protest going on in union square tomorrow....

    <sigh>

today we went to one of his favourite diners for brunch and had endless refills of kawfee, chatting about this and that. then to trader joes to chat with our favourite cashier and get some wine and cheese. then we went to this private stretch of beach that no one ever goes to and drank our wine and ate our cheese.

tomorrow we are going to the skating rink, then to the cat shelter to say bye to the shelter staff. also, to the daycare very briefly. and then to our second favourite bar (our favourite closed down a few months ago) for happy hour. then we are going to marathon watch columbo all night.

the day after, if we are not moving we're going to stay home playing board games. we've really started getting into settlers of catan haha.
