Hi, we had the oath ceremony this morning, my husband is officially a U.S. citizen. Could someone please update the oath ceremony date and change to red? I’m on my phone at the moment.

I'll probably be posting in here and in the i-400 February filers forum, but just wanted to let you all know that my husband had his i-400 interview/civics & English test and, as predicted here on VisaJourney, it ended up being a joint interview for the Removal of Conditions i-751 as well. The interview was on August 20, and we were the last people to be called. I showed up in case I needed to be present, and they ended up calling me into the interview and having me stay for the entire two parts (even though I was probably only needed for two minutes of it). It went really well, the civics/English test was great. My husband wasn't super familiar with the wording on the Oath of Allegiance (it's been a while and I helped him fill out the application originally) but luckily she showed it to him and let him "summarize in his own words what it meant to him" and whether he agreed with it. We did the Removal of Conditions questions after that and our only problem there was that I didn't think to bring additional photos, but she still marked us as recommended for approval.

It took them over a week to update the status online. One August 27 we got both the notification that "we approved your application" and "you attended your interview" on the uscis.gov/account website (although it actually didn't update until the next morning) and the other USCIS website showed on the 27 that "oath ceremony will be scheduled". On the 28th we got notified that the i-751 was approved.

The passport is on the way!

We applied at about 3 p.m. Friday, August 17th, after the Naturalization Ceremony.  The clerk at the Hudson, NY, Post Office was good - she told us, up front, that the passport agency (Philadelphia for us) would not get the application until Monday morning (it was delivered at 4:59 a.m.).  Looks like the passport was mailed back to us yesterday at noon, from Hot Springs (near Little Rock), Arkansas.  It will get to us tomorrow (Saturday).

We paid for expedite service ($+60) and Priority Mail (1-2 day service).  So all-in-all - it took them two days (Monday - Wednesday) to produce the passport, plus 4 days of mail transport to and from.

Just thought you might like to know the timing...

Added info...I have the US Postal Service's Informed Delivery Service - like many of you.  I went to my "dashboard" today to see if I could see the passport.  There was only one piece of mail listed, and since the passport isn't a "normal" envelope, I thought maybe it wouldn't show.  At the bottom of my screen, I noticed that the USPS had a "chat" function, so I thought - what the hey - I'll ask.  Glad I did.  The service rep explained how the passport (since I paid for Express Delivery) would have a tracking number, and, therefore, show up under the "packages" section.  No picture, he said, but the tracking number will show.  So I checked my dashboard, and sure enough, the package, which was mailed from Little Rock on Wednesday, showed up with delivery scheduled for tomorrow!

We just got our interview scheduled for our pending 400 application. i-751 was transferred to NBC on May 3. I am guessing it will be a joint interview for i-751 and i-400. I am the U.S. citizen - should I assume that I will need to be available for the interview in case it's a joint interview? I am guessing more info will be shared in the interview notice...

Thanks. I had my interview today, they were running half an hour late, but the officer let me know, which I thought was very kind of her.  I went into the interview room and I was SO anxious. I was a mess really.  My husband wasn't allowed in with me. I asked why later and was told that its a distraction especially when youre nervous and it stops any cheating with the test. I told the officer I was nervous, felt really sick and she said lets get the questions out of the way. She started and my mind went totally blank, like mush. She asked me a question and I gave an answer that wasn't relevant. I realised my mistake and she said correct. Same happened with the second question, but she was so patient. I did end up getting 6 out of 6 but only because she knew I was nervous and had patience.

Then the interview, that was not long. Just asking questions about where my husbands work place and then she went  through the paperwork I submitted.   I was not asked for any documentation, not divorce certs or such. Only my GC, passport and state id.   I did overload but it was already submitted online, so it was not asked for.

At the end of the interview and after signing a few things, like my additional vacation in May for my sons wedding, she told me I was approved.

I was still in the car park when we received a text message, but couldnt check it until I got home a few hours later. First message said we are reviewing your case for approval, not a couple of mins later or if not at the same time was a message put inline for Oath Ceremony.

I did ask the officer when this might be. I thought it was the third Friday of each month, but apparently the court house is for people changing their name when doing the Oath Ceremony.  My ceremony will likely be beginning of August when I questioned more. She said three to six weeks to receive my date, then I questioned a little further and that's when the officer said it looks like it may be the beginning of August and also it will be at the USCIS field office.

The sheer emotion of it all when I signed those documents. I thought bloomin heck Im going to cry and I said it out aloud, the officers reply was kind, she basically said its a long journey and its a very special moment.

So I'm done with (I hope) my last interview with USCIS. For anyone interested, here's the summary of my experience at the PDX office:
I was scheduled for 9.20. Thanks to VJ and other friends, I knew this would have to be a combo interview (even though the appointment letter didn't mention a thing about ROC) so I went with my husband. At about 9.50, I got my name called by an officer who tried to tell me they didn't need my husband. I mentioned the pending ROC and he switched to commending me for bringing him.
Officer Cole was super nice and gregarious. He had my thick file in front of him and asked if I brought anything else he still needs. I offered a bunch of stuff, he only took my latest IRS transcripts. Asked how we met, if we have kids, told us that we'd be surprised about the kind of explicit "evidence" some people send etc. We joked and laughed, and the transition to the N400 part of the interview was almost unnoticeable. I was surprised he didn't kick out my husband for the 2nd part, but he said that, since he seems willing to obey orders, he can stay.
For the civics questions, I had the following:
    - What is the supreme law of the land?
    - What is an amendment?
    - Who vetoes bills?
    - What is the capital of your state?
    - What do we show loyalty to when we say the pledge of Allegiance?
    - Who did the United States fight in World War II?
For the reading/writing part, I had the same sentence: "The White House is in Washington DC."

All good, but he explained that he cannot recommend me for approval right away because he needs to update my ROC application and they have a new system that's a pain etc etc. At this point I brought up my upcoming trip to Romania on September 16, and he said he'd do his best, but if I don't get an oath letter in a month, to make an appointment to get the stamp in my passport, and they'd schedule my for the oath after I return.
And now I can (almost) shred all the bits and pieces of evidence I have gathered over the years
For everyone still waiting, hang in there, the end is in sight!

Update on our case - if someone could add it to the table for me, that would be great (e-filing section):

I don't recall ever receiving an e-notice that we were in line for scheduling, but our interview was scheduled on 2/28/18 for an interview date of 4/12/18. HOWEVER, because of a combination of work and family travel plans, we requested that the interview be rescheduled until after June 8. They sent us a new scheduling letter on 5/3/2018, for an interview date of 6/11/2018. She PASSED the interview, and is now waiting to hear back about the oath date. They approved our I-751 on the same day.

I'm not sure how you want to show that on the table - it doesn't matter to me. My signature shows a few more details of the process.

By the way, rescheduling the interview was no problem. A little scary, because they just sent us an "interview canceled" letter, then waited to reschedule the new one until five or six weeks before our requested date range. But they didn't seem to mind at all, or think it was any big deal.

    Dear all!

I became a citizen today! The interview happened at around 9.30 AM (given time was 9 AM) and lasted 5-10 minutes. The interview was pretty uneventful, the officer was extremely trusting. In the civics test, I got the question, "How many Supreme Court justices are there?" and I replied, "That could be a tricky question given that Senior Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy just announced he plans to retire soon, but he hasn't so 9". He enjoyed that answer clearly. Later on he brought up my speeding ticket; I said I resolved that. He said, "I could ask you for proof of that, but I won't even though I'm sure you have those documents." I shook his hands, told him that this was a very proud moment for me, and he saw me out. I came back for the oath ceremony which was held at 3 PM today. It lasted about an hour. Everyone was really happy. There were 20 different nationalities being represented in 29 people there! Only unfortunate part was that I was prepared to apply for a passport but the Mt. Laurel center does not handle that.

Best of luck for your immigration journey!

My interview experience in Latham field office (Albany):

I went into the building at 1:55. Security officers were very nice. Went through metal detector, he asked for my letter and what was I in for today, I told him. He took my letter and told me to have a seat in the waiting area. There were about 9 other people in the waiting area. My appointment was at 2:15pm, and my name was called a couple minutes before 2:15. The officer introduced himself and walked me to his office. There weren’t that many people around working which I found weird for it being 2:15 on Thursday. The back area where the offices and cubicles were was pretty quiet. My immigration officer told me I could put my things down but to remain standing. He asked me to put my right hand up and swear to tell the truth, I did and then he told me to have a seat. He took a photo of me and prints of both my index fingers. He asked for my green card and passport. I gave him the most recent passport I have which has been expired for years and I told him as such and that I don’t have a current passport, but he said it was not a big deal at all. He then started the English test and showed me a list of 3 sentences and asked me to say the first one: “what do we pay the government” and then had me write “we pay taxes”. Then we did the civics test. My questions were:
    -What is freedom of religion?
    -When was the constitution written?
-Name one state that borders Canada?
-How many US senators are there?
-When must all men register for Selective Service?
-What ocean is on the east coast of the US?
I got them all correct. Then we went through my application. He had me confirm my name, date of birth, country of birth, current address and current employer. Confirmed that I have never been married, no kids and not traveled out of the country in the past 5 years. Went through all the yes or no questions. At the end, he congratulated me and told me I was recommended for approval and gave me the form saying so. He had me sign twice on a tablet. Once was to correct an error that it said my employment with my current employer ended on the date I did my application. He corrected it to “present” and then had me sign once more.

The officer was very friendly and engaged me in small talk several times about the weather and my drive to Albany. It seems like a lot when writing about it but the whole thing was under 15 minutes. I was in my car by 2:30pm. When I got to my car, I got 2 emails and 4 text messages from USCIS that my status has been updated. My current status on egov says “oath ceremony will be scheduled”.

I may have had to make almost 3 hr trip each way for a 13 minute interview, but it was well worth it. Almost there!

    Hello all,

as I already stated, I am a March filer, but as I got tremendous help from this group here as well, I felt like giving a short progress report from my interview this morning.

In summary, It could not have gone any easier and smoother. I was supposed to be there at 8AM and was, not too long of a waiting line and a nice room to relax in while waiting for my name to be called. Mrs. Lovethemidwest was with me but was very politely told it would only be me needed for the interview.

The interview took hardly 20 minutes. We reviewed  some of the basic information after the officer had a look at my file. He verified my passport and my free card, no joint interview, by the way.
Then he asked me many of the yes/no questions, asked me a bit about my travel history in the last years, etc.
I answered all the civics questions right and the very simple English test. I was approved on the spot. And now we are celebrating by having fancy hipster coffee to go on a nice hipster neighborhood walk, and soon we will have fancy hipster pizza here followed by ice cream.

Biggest surprise: He didn’t ask for any of the required documents but my passport and green card.

Biggest downer: He said I should soon get a letter for an oath date....and that I should be a citizen in two months.....I know this sounds like a first world problem to complain about, but I thought being scheduled for the oath was a rather quick process. Everything has been so fast so far, I applied early in March and it has luckily been nothing but smooth sailing. I have to admit I was hoping to celebrate July 4th as a US Citizen, oh well.

I appreciate this forum and all the support here a lot !

I am a.m. also February 2017 CSC filer that I had combined N400 application whilst waiting for the I751. Had my interview and was approved a couple days later and now I have checked and it says my I751 and N400 have both been approved on the egov website but the app has not been updated. So waiting for my oath ceremony schedule and possibly 10-year green card if at all they will send it to me.

    Folks,

I had my interview this morning @ 9.30am at Mt Laurel NJ.
    1. I arrived at exactly 8.30am, checked in with my notice and waited patiently.  The LCD TV in the living room kept showing some flash cards of the Civic Test, allowing me to revise a few questions.

    2. I got called in around 10am (roughly 30 minutes late).  The officer was very nice, went through my application, made some minor changes to some check boxes that were blank.

    3. She administered the civic and english test, which I passed.

    4.  All went well until the question on citations.  Mistakenly, I had noted that I got some traffic fines (all were under $300) but did not include a verification that they were paid.  So, she asked me to go to my county offices where I was ticketed and get verification and come back.  Note - these two places were at the two extreme ends of town, so I ended up using about 1.5hrs driving to both places to get the evidence of payment. Lesson learnt: get receipts (original copies) of all paid fines ready for your interview.

    5. I got back around 12.00, she called me back in, I submitted the receipts and was approved.

    6. Since they have same-day oath ceremonies, I waited around until about 3Pm and took the oath of citizenship.

Wheeewwww -- over for now .....  onto the next step - sponsorship of my wife.

Thanks for all your support and contributions to this very useful forum.

Sure-  I apologize as I’m typing this on phone. Excuse typos .

my appointment was at 1:15 at Latham, Albany. The security guards were very friendly. I was called in at 2:00 pm. The officer was a young man, late 20s or so. No small talk at all. we went to his office and he put me under oath.

He he asked me to have a seat and to hand him the green card and passport.

He started the history  test before reviewing the application. Here are the questions:

    - Who was the president during world war 1
    - How old do you  have to be to be able to vote

    - What did martin Luther  king do
    - Name one problem that led to civil war
    - How often do we elect us representatives
    - who was the first president

I answered all of them and he said you did good.

We went over the yes/no questions and that was done in less than a minute.

He asked me to sign on the tablet and to confirm if my name is right.

He asked me to write “ we have 100 senators”

He said congratualtions , I’m recommending your application for approval. You should expect the oath ceremony in the mail.

I thanked him and he walked me out.

by the time I got to my car, I had 4 emails about case updates. Now , it says we placed you in line for oath ceremony.

    Good experience  in my opinion.

    Hi all,

I am happy to let you know that my wife and I are US Citizens as of yesterday (May 15) - details updated below. We are fortunate to fall under Newark, NJ office that has same day oath.

My experience was quite smooth - interview time was 11.30am, I submitted my interview letter at 11.20am, was called in at 12.05pm, and was out at 12.20pm! Unfortunately, my wife had a VERY long wait... Her interview time was 12.15pm, she submitted her interview letter at 11.45am, but was called in for interview at 3.00pm!! However, her interview was also short - she was out at 3.15pm! We were called for oath at 4.40pm, and were done by 5.20pm.

Both our interviewers were very friendly, and so was the staff in general. One thing to note - they didn't allow people to submit the interview letter (akin to checking-in there) more than 30 min before their interview appointment. My wife tried to do it with me (at 11.20am), but was asked to do it at 11.45am (since her interview was at 12.15pm).

    My questions were:
    - State bordering Canada
    - Ocean on East coast
    - Age for registration to Selective Service
    - When was the Constitution written
    - How many Senators
    - What is freedom of religion

Everyone that is awaiting interviews / oath - wish you the best!!

IO advised me to fill it out prior to oath and signing it infront of the USCIS person at the ceremony. Cheers!

I just finished my N400 interview. the interview itself took about 15 minutes. The security check and waiting in line took about 1 hour 20 mins. Los Angeles is crazy busy. the IO was awesome! she was super super kind and friendly. she had me swear under oath first. then the reading and writing test.

she made me read out " What is the capital of the united States" then had me write down the answer Washington DC is the capital.

    then civics test:
    1. how many justices in the supreme court
    2. we elect a senator every how many years
    3. name one branch of the government
    4. what does the presidents cabinet do
    5. what did the declaration of independence do
    6. what is the capital on the USA

then i was asked about my application. went thru previous address. asked about my previous marriage (Ex Wife Petitioned my Green Card). asked about my 16 month old daughter. IO wanted to see photos of my daughter because she loves kids. IO asked about my job. my current address. overall experience was fantastic. she asked if i wanted to do my oath taking next week. i said yes. she checked but it was closed/full? she then said it'll definitely be on June. She gave me the paper that says congratulations i passed. stood up gave her a big hug and left.

Good day fellow members on this journey. Its been a long journey and mine still continues.
I had my interview today at the Columbus field office however, a decision could not be made and I will have to wait a bit. The interview in itself wasn't too bad and the IO seemed nice. Here is the excerpt of the interview day.

Interview was scheduled at 8AM but was at the office at 7:45 about 2 other people ahead of me and we got let in at 8:50ish through security. Once cleared security we collected tickets to be called to the reception to check every individual in. Check in was smooth and easy and about 3/5 minutes later a young gentleman probably in his early 30s (can't be sure could be less or more) came to get me. I had seen him before when I went to get my stamp though not officially.
once we got into his 'office' he asked me to remain standing and place my right hand up and put me under oath.

As soon as I got seated chit chatted a bit whilst he was looking at his computer and my file from when i filed was on his desk wide open.

Started with the reading and writing.

Read: The white house is in Washington D.C
    Write: the above sentence.

Then the 6 questions asked were:

    1. Who vetoes bills?
    2. Who do we say the pledge of allegiance to?
    3. What is the supreme law of the land?
    4. Who did the US fight in world war 2?
    5. What is the capital of your state?
    6. Cannot remember.

Then we proceeded to the N400 Yes/No questions and I was arrested by some stupid cop in NYC in 2014 for driving using my international drivers license from my country and the idiot arrested me claiming the license was forged! Unbelievable. Fortunately the DA and prosecutors after I got to court dropped the charged to driving without license for which i pleaded and just paid a fine and had a certificate of disposition. We also had some taxes that we owe to IRS and are on a payment plan and provided all documentation of that and he took copies and asked if he could keep the original as it will be good for the file. I do have to let you guys know that I have about 5 or so traffic tickets in a span of 2 years but IO didn't ask me about those as I had declared all of them in the N400 form and provided disposition for them.
He updated the N400 with the arrest which I had also put down when I filed.
He made me sign the iPad couple of places saying to cross check if everything seems ok with my name or if i wanted to change names as it will be what is going on the naturalization certificate. Said No.

After he got copies of the IRS docs he printed the letter and told me everything was fine that I had passed the N400 interview but he cannot make a decision as he will have to review my i751 file as he hadn't have time to review the file. But he should get back to me after reviewing the file in about a week or 10 days and If i don't hear from them I can make an info pass and ask to see him. Earlier in the setting He asked me if my wife and I had a child and I replied No and he said that would've been a slam dunk if we had one. He also asked if I came to the interview with my wife as I am a 3-year filer and I said NO as she was at the hospital down the road for a doctors appointment same time as my interview time.

So the waiting game continues for me unfortunately and congratulations to the ones who got theirs approve and good luck to those that are going for their interviews.
