Hi! Canadian now in the states (just came across less than a month ago). Any questions, always feel free to ask. And good luck with the lawyer. Yikes. Lodge a complaint with the law society where they are - I've worked with lawyers up in Canada and that's one entity you want to stay on their good side. I'm sure it's similar down south.

CEAC is sometimes convinced that only montreal exists. Don't worry about it just yet...if your case says VAC it's likely in vancouver.
You can send them an email at Vancouverk@state.gov
They're pretty good at getting back to you - next business day or the day after.
Make sure you state your case number, full name, DOB and fiance's name so they have all important information.

Ah yes. They're usually pretty good with that Just email and explain. Here's my email thread:

Yes! you may book the appointment in April; on the day of the interview we need a written signed statement from the petitioner and beneficiary that he/she intents and is legally capable to marry within 90 days after the beneficiary’s admission to the United States (signed within last 30 days from the appointment date).

    Good morning,
Okay, so in essence, even though my petition expires in December, if I wait until say April to book my interview, it will be okay? Do you need anything in writing from myself or my fiancé to reaffirm our intentions in the meantime? (I know I'll need the statement of intent to marry again once interview time rolls around.)
Thanks for your help, hope you're having a great day!

    Good morning,
In response to your letter sent October 17, 2013, I was wondering if it is possible or what would be required to extend the petition approval at all? As it stands, I believe the petition approval expires in December, and sadly I have had no luck in selling my house, and may not be able to move down before the K-1 itself expires.
If extensions are possible, is it easier to extend the petition approval, or the K-1 itself?
    Please let me know.
Thanks, hope you're having a great day.

Request it tomorrow. Email them. They won't adjudicate over email - but it's worth a try.
There's two steps when you have your interview. First person you talk to just takes and organizes your info. The second person actually adjudicates. And it's in their discretion. So they may look at your funeral director document and decide that's sufficient. Worse case they rfe you and you send it in as soon as you get it. Either way, just a speed bump. Not the end of the world.
    Hugs.

It looks like it could be a mistake if you're a k1 , unless Vancouver suddenly is no longer processing them. Odd.
I'd email Montreal and say hey, was this a misfile somewhere? And see if it can get transferred.

Depending on where the Canuck lives - is she going to be processed in Vancouver or Montreal...depends on if they see anything and throw her in advanced processing...depends on how busy they are/how many people are on vacation, there is no hard and fast answer. From interview to visa at the loomis office for me was...well my interview was a Wednesday, got the call the Monday after, so less than a week. My friend who has her interview the same day (yep. Dr cheema...creating friendships in the waiting room lol) took a little over a week I think. (And her passport/visa was going to a city that's a three hour drive if you're slow from me...

Sad thing is, there's no knowing. Keep calm and carry on, who knows, maybe one of you have a same name as some criminal and that's just the extra processing. Deep breath, and don't make plans until you have that visa in hand.

Yeah Canada the general consensus is they care less. Hey mine is in two weeks (insert panicked expletives here!!) and I'm going solo. Considering the cost of the move itself, aos fees etc...yeah he's not allowed to come up until it's to pick me up lol.
Good luck!!! I've got all my stuff organized in a binder - if you go binder route...awesome but if not try to have it in some sort of order

Oh noes three months mat/pat leave for a child?
Don't make me tell you what Canada gets. And we haven't fallen into the abyss yet. But suffice to say it's considerably longer.
Anyway. You gentlemen gripe about "oh noes we have to pay for delivery in our health insurance!" Well, we women have to pay for again the testicular/prostate procedures for you..and some other fun ones that I can't think of cause I just woke up.
I have my car/house insurance explain things like this (when I asked why my insurance jumped last year. Considering the flooding we got this spring...I better get the house sold before then cause I don't know how I'll afford that jump!!)
Insurance is like a big pool. When things happen that are a bigger draw (slave lake fires, southern Alberta flooding, complicated child delivery or cancer...) it affects everyone. So even though my house didn't get flooded or burned down, my rates go up to cover everyone. (So in case I don't have a complicated delivery or cancer...I'd rather they do that then come back and say oops sorry we're out of money)

I like the Canadian forums... Where we can talk about things like poutine and it's availability south of the border also, it's a way (for me anyway) feeling a little less alone...I mean come on this week I've got a Calgarian and an Airdrie-an doing their interviews...that's two people not far from me (heck, I work in Calgary and generally shop in Airdrie lol)

Okay. The four months is to get the actual visa. Once that comes in then you have the (generally) six months to move, and the 90 days after crossing the border to get married.

Thing to remember guys: it's government. They'll take their time and it'll happen when it happens.
When you do call the nvc to get your case number, be nice, polite, courteous and all those things. Usually the cubicle monkey you're talking to isn't the one who has control over it, so it doesn't do anyone any good if you take out your frustrations on the process on them.
The important thing is, ladies and gentlemen, is that you have reached that next step and you are that little step closer to the goal. Stay positive and don't panic if it takes a bit longer (or shorter) than the vj timelines say. Cause really, when you look at it, what's an extra week/month of waiting when you're looking at spending the rest of your life with someone? Grand scheme of things, yeah it sucks waiting but good things come to those who wait and all those cliches.
Again, STAY CALM, DON'T PANIC, and focus on the positives not the delays.

I would agree that he needs to talk to an impartial professional possibly. Yeah, it's a tough slog, but all we can do is go day by day, it'll happen when it happens, you have to pretty much take a fatalistic view on it. He needs to focus on OTHER THINGS in his life right now...don't focus on the "wahhh I can't wake up next to someone" but instead focus on "at some point this will happen and then we will be able to"
Bright side, they seem to be kicking out the 1-129f approvals pretty danged quick - but of course, that being said, some cases take longer than others, for undeterminable reason. (hence the taking a fatalistic view on it.)
